Are people not using elemental resist runes?

My party was lv 28-29, and everyone but Talis had armor with fire+spirit resist runes (not for this fight specifically). I didn't realize that this fight was going to be so tough, but my spirit healer Hawke, Aveline, Varric and Tallis party was successful on the first try, though Tallis died since she was the only one with no magic resist runes and died quickly from that black cloud attack. One group heal was all everyone else needed to recover.

I like tough fights like this, though it certainly helps to be prepared, or at least at a higher level.

FINALLY BEAT IT...on Nightmare, for Christ's sake...I hated that thing! And I even had no mages (poor party selection, thinking it would have been an easy DLC like Warden's Keeo or Stone Prisoner from Origins).

I'm still on act2, level 15...now I know I can defeat everything!

To be fair, it is an optional fight, you can finish the quest and take everything from the chest except the Book of the Lady.

If you take the book, the Sky Horror and his goons appear.
