Hey,

Im just playing ME2 for the first time and just finished the mission on Horizon and tried to get Kaiden to join me and he refused despite trying all the dialogue options. I'm REALLY hoping I did something wrong here as I would be gutted if thats the only interaction I get with him seeing as I had him at my side all the time in ME1 and figured with the photo in the captains room that he would join up at some point.
I know its kinda sad, but I was hoping for an epic romance across the 3 games, is it the same for Liara as well as I havent go round to that playthrough yet and I adore her aswell?

Kaidan nor Ashley will join Shepard in ME2, as they are too far up the Alliance's ass to look a the bigger picture. Love or no, Shepard is not their priority in ME2.

Maybe your Femshep should go with Garrus, seeing as he's more loyal to Shepard.

You're not alone Moshiecat. Many, many people were disappointed by the roles Kaidan and Ashley received in ME2. Sadly, you cannot recruit them. There is a cutscene late in the game that implies that the romance is still intact, but you only get that cutscene if you do not pursue another romance. The good news is that Kaidan will be back as a full time squadmate in ME3.

The news is much better with Liara. If you download the "Lair of the Shadowbroker" DLC, you'll be treated to a wonderful continuation of her romance. She will also be back as a squadmate in ME3.

Nope, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Ashley and Kaidan were both written in ME2 to end up being hated by fans. In that respect, the writers did a great job. As far as having adult characters act like adults, not so much.

lol - I totally would go with Garrus, esp now he's all scarred up. Turians are just loyal in general though, its nice. 

Yeah - I cant believe Kaiden or Ashley wouldn't just deal with it seeing as the other option is certain death in the not to distant future, relationship or not! They really dont have an excuse either seeing as he/she was with me on all crucial plot missions in ME1

As for the DLC I heard mentioned about Liara - is that for ME1 or ME2? Do you just get in on marketplace? - apologies for being useless

At least I didnt miss anything  stupidI guess - will just have to wait for ME3

The DLC is for ME2. You'll have to wait for ME3 to resume your romance with Ashley or Kaiden.
