There is a LOT you can do with a natural bestiary and demons.  If you're going to make goblins, though, at least... make them look like they're not some ten year old's art project.

Agreed.  The art team has lost its way as far as I'm concerned.

Also I just want to say, ghasts are a welcome addition in my opinion. We need more monsters to fight. There's way too many bandits and spiders in DA2. I'd much rather have had these guys on the Wounded Coast instead of dozens of more bandits.

I saw a screenshot of a sabre tooth tiger from Skyrim the other day.  And then I played MoTA...

Notice that no one's complaining about the introduction of wyvern.

I agree if they wanted to stay away from goblins there were tons of different options to explore. But they clearly do not feel the same way they did before. And it's their series to do that. We've had talking werewolves and living statues (both possessed by spirits and by dwarves on the Anvil of the Void). I don't find goblin-like creatures to be that big of a departure from intelligent mage made dogs or lyrium stones that create ghosts of golems.

But they went with goblins and I have no problem with it.

I can understand disliking their appearance. They do look a touch too WarCraft-y and Fable-y to me. But the concept of ghasts don't upset me at all. And I don't think they're out of place in a "dark fantasy" setting. Look at the Witcher with its sapient Trolls and Harpies and talking Dragons.

The Witcher was always conceived as being filled with the creatures of folklore. The creatures you fight in-game are the same ones Sapkowski wrote about. CDPR stuck to the lore, but then that's one reason they chose that material- because it was so rich.

I'm more talking about the aesthetics, though. As I said, I wouldn't have minded goblins that were actually creepy, and something that felt well thought-out.

Also, why would anyone complain about the wyvern?  Wyverns were already established lore.  I did think the goo was a bit too... 80's movie.  But the general tone of the game seems to be going in the direction of goofy/ campy.  *ugh*

They remind me of the Fable goblins -- sound just like them.
AND way TOO cartooney for DA. Really didn't feel like I was in DA anymore.

Clearly DAO was a betrayal of the true spirit of Baldur's Gate (no hordes of goblin-type enemies to kill, wth BioWare?), while DA2 is a return to form. :wizard:

I can laugh/cackle exactly like the Ghasts. Its eerie. It creeps me out but its fun to do to spook others.

Ghasts are a wonderful addition to Thedas. I'd hate to meet a Blight Ghast, tho'.

I agree with those who got the feeling of hobbes and goblin type creatures.

My real gripe with them though is it seems like DA is starting to get too many cave dwelling creatures when most of the underground is supposed to be ravaged by darkspawn.

I thought the Ghasts sounded like Ewoks. I couldn't stop giggling every time I had to fight them.

I would have liked them better if they were more similar to the gnomes of Risen, that is less cartoony, while still maintaining the goblinesque feeling. See below how the gnomes sounds and moves are way more realistic.

They're a rip-off of Fable's Hobbes.

Everything's immune to force magic since it was nerfed.  Hawke also lost the knockdown resistance.  If I were re-playing, I'd be re-specing to Spirit Healer.  Hurrah for blood mage/ spirit healer... covering all your bases.

I've thought for a long time now that Bioware is going to introduce Griffons again. Mike Laidlaw said many months ago when questioned about Griffons "At this point I can promise only statues", and as far as Thedas knows Griffons are extinct. However, Thedosians admit that there is much of the world that is unknown, so I believe that Griffons exist in a wild state on some uncharted island.

Plus, seeing an enemy on a mount was pretty awesome, so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried that to also see if it could work for griffons too.

Ghasts reminded me of the Gravelings from the series 'Dead Like Me'.

Just putting that out there.

If Bioware pulls a Jurassic Park and brings them back to life, I expect a Muldoon. Or several. *They did use the 'clever girl' line in MotA ...*

Honestly, I think that was more of a way to tease us than anything.

Showed us a horse ... but it was a paintng.
Showed us griffons ... but they were statues.
Show us a krogan ... but it was dead D:

Successfully mimicing representative war paint is a pretty neat trick for a creature of below-human intelligence. Find me the chimpanzee who, of her own accord, paints an accurate handprint on her hat.

There's an elephant that paints elephants.

Not saying Ghasts are simple creatures. They're not. They've very clearly tribal based and some what intelligent.

Ok, so. The entire existence of ghasts has just been justified by the fact that they caused me to become aware of this video.

(I didn't have a problem with them to begin with really, apart from the DAMN RANGED WEAPON DEFENSE BUG, but it's clear to me they are at least semisentient, and an evolutionary eyeblink away from airplanes. Which admittedly could still be forty thousand years, I'm just saying - if they're not meant to be a legit culture that we should have at least theoretical qualms about slaughtering en masse, then a dev screwed up somewhere.)

(Hawke cheerfully slaughters enough humans for no good reason that I'm not sure why this is an issue to begin with, myself.)
