I'm sure the krogan bust and "the priiize" joke was just trolling their critics about DA2 being an ME clone. That's about the level of the writing for this DLC. That sort of gag is funny when subtle- I did like the killer cheese wheel, myself- but after a while it's just like junior high follies.

Right, I liked the more subtle gags like the cheese wheel or the one painting with the guy on the horse and that description. But when thats most of the substance of the DLC and most of its those sort of meme level gags and one liners, when they try to go to anything with their serious face I can't take it seriously as I'm just waiting for the next joke.

The Ghasts just kind of seem like Ewok level comic relief with how goofy they sound.

Addai and Brock, hating everything DA2-related even when it's self-deprecation that acknowledges their criticism.

Well we still haven't seen the Fex yet, maybe this is what their darkspawn are. I mean they come from underground and they look blight infested.

It is my theory that ghasts are actually a manifestation of our inner selves. The physical embodiment of our true nature.

So in that sense, we're all a ghast.

I'd prefer they spend their time on some creative humor.

I know this thread is a bit old (at least as far as old gets on the internet) but when I played through this I couldn't help but think these ghast act just like the minions from Overlord. They loot their weapons/armor, they look tribal, and they are comical. I half expected to kill enough ghast that the Overlord would pop out to defend them at some point. I'm surprised only one other person mentioned the minion resemblance.

The ghasts are something different, at least. Anything is better than yet more spiders.

Did the spiders eat all of the wolves and bears? They seem to be everywhere around Kirkwall.

Are people not used to the Bioware handwaving yet? Ghasts in MotA shouldn't be a shock to anyone, and the players seem to be the only ones who pay attention to the game lore. Teleporting mages? Handling items made of pure lyrium and not dying from it?

The devs obviously have changed their minds about this, I personally don't have too much of a problem with it though.

Ghasts look stupid to me. The wyvern was a great addition, but the tribe of hairless ewoks definitely didn't stand out as an amazing bestiary addition.

Would've been happy if Wolves and Bears were brought back, but alas.

MotA had the perfect setting for it too..

There was not nearly enough singing on the part of the ghasts for them to be equated with Ewoks. Image IPB

or nearly enough cuteness.

Ewoks are cute. Ghasts are ugly.

Which is good. They should be ugly since their name is part of the word ghastly. I hope they'll look better in the future. And by better I mean more detailed.

I always wanted an Ewok Jedi...cannibal force sensitive with stone saber that cut through spaceships as if it were a hot knife through butter...

Awesome...

I don't know that we want to start an ugly-pretty debate on the ghasts...the elves might get jealous of the attention.

But I think they're cute, after a fashion...in that gremlin sort of way. As in "aw...look how cute it is before it pokes me with a sharpened stick. Awwww...."

Why can I imagine that being something Merrill would say?

She found deepstalkers cute. I can't see why she wouldn't have a fondness for ghasts.

The ghasts are silly, but they fit with the generally light-hearted tone of MotA. I just hope this isn't their only appearance.

Merrill wasn't the only one that found the deepstalkers to be cute. I did too when I first saw them in DAO.

Deadly, but cute.

Nay not so deadly. They are delicious with bbq sauce (bhaalspawn blood basically), taste like nugs

Whoa! Those are... Ghasts? I wouldn't like to wake up to see one beside me. To be honest bodies match their codex. Wide eyes (to see in those caves) pale skin (lack of sunlight?) huge heads (lack of sunlight again? It's a side effect of being years underground with no light.) They are pretty creepy. They don't have to look like that girl from the excorsist just to be scary. Just imagine seeing one of those in real life :S

With wyverns roaming the area though, any thriving creature would have to be incredibly cunning and/or live underground.

The player is able to hear wildlife though, which means that all the wildlife hasn't been killed by the wyverns.

I do wish Bioware had thrown in other animals for the player to see. The lack of wildlife killed some of the livelihood of the hunt. Which isn't to say it didn't feel alive. It just didn't feel as alive as it should've. Like I would've liked to see:

  • wolves
  • bears
  • werewolves,
  • deer,
  • halla. I mean, come on! They showed us the Sabrae clan's banners in pictures of MotA. I was expecting wild halla or some sort of Merrill-centric stuff.
  • birds,
  • other types of dogs. because Orlesians make fun of Fereldans and their Mabari, so it doesn't make sense unless they're all friendly with the Mabari like that one hunter. But also, I'd like to see other types of dogs. Siberian Huskies, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, German Shepherds, Saint Bernards, etc. Obviously under a different name though.
But, I also wouldn't want all the wolves and bears to be enemies. I'd just like to fight some and just see others.

The ghasts looked like pokemons, or whatever. Can`t stand them.
