I don't really care about graphics as much as I care for story, combat, immersion, and decisions
Is the combat and story good in kotor? Can you make decisions like in da:o?
DA:2 was pathetic in my opinion.. Hawke was retardedly reactive, and nothing in the game had any proactive nature in it.. You couldn't even kill a blood mage, but its still a 7.5 - 8.0 game for me
Anyway, if I like DA, will i like kotor? Whats the combat like?
This might belong in the kotor forum, but I want to know if I should buy it in relation to DA
Should I buy kotor? I love DA

in short, yes
combat is more of the same auto attacks mixed with powers positioning and pausing, similar to DA .Story is very good (would love to play it again without knowing some of the plot) .As for choice there is a fair amountparagon and rengade err darkside and light..
If you love DAO you should love kotor, and for a price it is now its a steal (it's a little better than spending 10$ on the new da2 dlc)

I should add: I'm thinking xbox, not pc. I always forget that bioware forums aren't console-specific

Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. One of best games of all time IMO. You loved DAO and other BW games ? You'll love KOTOR. Doubly or triply so if you are also a huge Star Wars geek like myself.

So, to play Devil's Advocate, KotOR kind of pissed all over Star Wars, and it's very much a victim of BioWare's plot formula.
Is it good? Yes. Will you like it? Probably. But it's sort of in the middle as far as BioWare's games altogether are concerned.

I played it back when it was released on the console but, perhaps, you should consider getting it for the PC. Even low spec systems will play it and there are a lot of mods out there for it, so you can tailor your gaming experience.
As to the question about whether to get it or not, there's no doubt about it. In my opinion, it's one of the best RPGs of its time and one of my favourite games. Period.

The steam version worked fine on my PC with Windows 7, so no reason to worry there.
Storywise, KotoR is very strong. I knew important parts of the plot before i played it, and still enjoyed it very much. If you managed to don't get any spoilers so far, it will be even better. Sure, some plot points are very typical or Bioware, but that isn't a bad thing in my eyes.
Most decisions are pretty much black and white (you know, all that light side and dark side stuff), but there are many interesting quests and decisions.
The combat hits the sweet spot between complexity and accessibility. It is easy to learn, but will never bore you. It isn't as party based as DA:O, you can play it as a hack-and-slay, but some parts require a tactical approach.
Over-all KotoR is a very good game. The gameplay is more akin to a (much better) Neverwinter Nights than to DA:O, but i think you will enjoy it. For the price it has, you should definitly get it.

SW: KotOR has one of the strongest stories in video games, imo up there with Planescape: Torment. The combat is silly, but it's really easy most of the time so it's not much of a bother. Otherwise though, I love it. Great story, tons of role-playing freedom(decisions as you say), and I would say the game makes a reasonably good effort at enforcing immersion. Of course, that's also up to the player.
