Short? Maybe if you only play it once, but the converse of your statement is also true: your perspective as a player affects the balance between content and money.
These games and their DLC are built to accommodate multiple arrangements of party builds, plus some of Hawke's dialog choices and decisions. Not only are they meant to accommodate different playing styles and preferences, they are built to be replayed. Though you may have had your fill by reaching the ending, you never see everything the first time through.
I think most of the game industry is still fixated on the old idea (going back to Space Inaders) that you progress through a game by simply clearing the area of baddies and moving on. That seems to be the only goal, and outside of that goal there is little to nothing to experience. Well today's games are much more sophisticated, but today's game reviewer just doesn't have time for that.
If you play this DLC through three or four times by itself or over the course of a few DA2 playthroughs it can become a 12-15 hour experience in total. Some might call $10 for 12-15 hours a bargain.
I understand your point, and I completely agree on the idea of replayability as gameplay value. Games like Dragon Quarter experienced with that element with surprising results.
But, even agreeing with that, I'm sure you see that everything you have stated about dlc applies also to full lenght games, as DA2 original campaign. This fact makes the balance absurdly poor, even taking in consideration replayability. The content you pay in dlc is like golden arrows, or jeweled pencils; it's not worth the price for its purpose.
And one more thing: the simple presence of replayability, does not make that element good. In case of Legacy and MotA, it exists, but is not as refined or enjoyable as it should be. Personal taste, of course, but I fail to see the gameplay value on reading new party banter, masked in clonic secondary quests -it adds gameplay value, but not a relavant value to my eyes-.
In any case: I liked Legacy and MotA. It's true that I feel a bit cheated because I consider price out of scale, but I also enjoyed Bioware effort to make quality products, solving and well-managing DA2 terrible flaws.

Other than that I enjoyed the DLC.

If I had to venture a guess, it's that most of the people who still post in the DA2 forums are enthusiastic about the series and would be more likely to react positively to the sort of quirky in-jokes that make MotA so great.
Plus I suspect a lot of game review sources are over-compensating for missing the popular dissatisfaction with DA2 by going too far in the other direction and being toonegative about any content that doesn't excrete rainbows or cure cancer.
Agreed...

I agree too. They are simply trying to re-estabilsh some sort of credibility by criticizing optional content like DLCs.

Seemed pretty accurate to me in overall impression for someone who blew through it and missed some of the depth. Leave Isabel at home? Miss out on her quest. Leave Avaline at home? Miss out on her quest.Blacklash93 wrote...

Is it me or is there a distinct polarity in how fans and critics recieve these DLC's?
But overall, I have to agree. I didn't like the stealth sequence either, but I did like that they were trying something new.

Mark of the assasin is a great dlc, it doesn't has much fighting as players wanted, show new and old faces, puzzles and more.. what the hell more you guys want? it took me as long or longer than Legacy dlc and I totally skip 3-4 of the puzzles.
About the price, if the price is too high for you, stop and think what is more important to you, food, electricity or 3-4 hours of killing monsters in a game.

The thing is though they are trying new things and there is clearly a greater focus on dialogue in the DLC as opposed to the base game so there are changes. It makes the reviewer look like he hasn't played it.Kazanth wrote...
So he expected massive gameplay changes from a DLC and was disappointed when his expectations were wrong. Uh huh.

I'm not sure why people complain about having to spend $10 on DLC. We're given 6-7 hours of gameplay, but even more importantly, the story is expanding, we learn more about the characters we've come to love.
How many people go to the movies? You pay well over $10 if you go to a movie and buy a snack and a drink. As much as I love movies, I had a lot more fun playing my MOTA DLC ... and I saved money on snacks and drinks because I already had some diet cokes in the fridge
