Yeah, I've noted the inconsistency in Tallis' personality, too. In the DLC, she was a very sweet and snarky assassin with a lot of passion, e.g. prison cell conversation on Qunari. In the webseries, she is definitely less likable (arrogant, condescending, low empathy etc) but also more intriguing (to me.) Did Redemption take place before MotA? I've seen some contradicting statements on the timeline.

I still like Tallis, though. Just seems to me her defense mechanisms are working overtime in Redemption, and that she feels she has a lot to prove to the Qunari. I won't pass final judgment until the final episode. =]

Yeah Redepmtion took place a long time before MotA. So maybe her personality and beliefs changed a bit between Redepmtion and MotA.

I agree, the whole mission she is currently on is to hunt down the saarebas. Which was given to her as a chance to redeem and reclaim her title of Ben Hassrath. I'd assume she is going to do whatever it takes to make sure she doesnt fail this mission, which is prevelant in web series.

EDIT: Top..hmm lets see...

I wouldn't call it inconsistency. I'd call it character evolution since Redemption takes place prior to MotA.

Also, she's still snarky in Redemption.

Agreed, though the snarky parts in Redemption come across as "superior", whereas the snark in MotA is more good-natured. I'm hoping that the events of the webseries will explain what caused the change in Tallis. I've been inherently sympathetic to the Saarebas from the start, due to how the Qunari treat their mages, and the 3rd episode and the preview of the 4th only solidified that. That said, I'm hoping the resolution to the webseries will be a little bit more than just reigning in the Saarebas, thus providing ground for Tallis' character growth.

There are so many hints about Tallis; her past as a slave, motivations for converting and working with the Qunari, the previous mission which she failed etc.

I like the comparison between Tallis and Fenris -- similar background, yet their view on the Qun are complete opposites. I wonder if Fenris would feel differently about the Qun if he had all of his memories?

Anyway, what I am most curious about in regards to Tallis is where she received her training. Obviously the Ben-Hassrath provided some, but in MotA she claims Salit saw her potential and recruited her, probably meaning she could fight before converting. Was she part of the Tevinter slave armies? Did she learn to fight as a means to survive? Third episode of Redemption also hints at a romance-which-ended-in-tragedy in her past.

I wonder how much can be answered in the course of three ~7 min episodes.:P

Also, lovely pic!

I almost want to say she was a bard at one point.  In MotA, I noticed that she knew a lot facts about places, people, and creatures.  She also knows Leiliana.

I don't know if she would've been a bard. Leliana calls her "Tallis", which is a Qunari title. Had they known each other prior to Tallis' becoming a Qunari, Leliana would've called her something else.

What we do know is that Tallis isn't familiar with the Andrastian faith, since she had to ask about certain people within the faith.

"Your god is called Andraste, right?"

I imagine she just did the same thing as Sigrun. She fought to survive and had natural talent.

Tallis certainly has softened between Redemption and MotA. But then, the Leliana of Origins and Leliana's Song were two different people as well: one, an unrepetant killer, and the other, a good-hearted Chantry lay sister.

Maybe she just did her research before going on the mission with Hawke.  It reminded me a lot of how Katriel from the stolen throne always knew a little bit of something about everything.

Okay Tallis fans, please explain something to me - why is she still a Qunari? By this I mean, I can understand her still following the philosophy on equality, etc, but I've now watched all 4 episodes of Redemption and played MoA, and I don't get why (if) she is still loyal to those in charge - The Ariqun and the Ben Hasrath. Let me explain. Apparently she was demoted by the Ban Hasrath for fouling up several missions she was charged with and it would seem from her description of the last one, this is because she allows compassion and her own personal feelings to get in the way of the proscribed mission. This makes sense because that is how I perceived the Qunari.

Then presumably, having reinstated herself in their good books, she then objects because the Ariqun doesn't consider it necessary to chase after Salit even though the Ariqun knows that he is going to betray their spies in Thedas to Orlais. She definitely says that the Ariqun said they (the spies) knew the risk when they signed up. So Tallis takes it on herself to stop Salit. Now that is very commendable but there is a problem. The qunari that executes Petrice, says that they do not abandon their own and yet they were avenging someone who had only just converted to the Qun and had done so quite openly. Why would they not be equally concerned for their spies? So clearly the Ariqun had a reason why Salit should be left alone. This means Tallis is going to be in a lot of trouble for interfering. Surely she realises that? In any case, if it were me I would be starting to doubt the merits of my new religion when it so clearly is at odds with the way I would treat people and to remain loyal means denying my own personal morality, plus the person who converted me has now turned Tal Vashoth. She is clearly a very capable person so she has no need to stay with the Qunari, so why does she?

The Qunari gave her a place and a purpose. The Qun is a comfort zone. I think she knows there is a lot wrong with Qun (the despicable way they torture their mages for a start) but can't quite bring herself to leave it because of the security and sense of safety it provides for her.

Agreed - Tallis' personality is inconsistent. I dislike her even more for chucking a goddamn throwing knife at that elven kid - WTF? Just because he says he's a good healer doesn't you test it with blade to the stomach. She's just one big self-insert as far as I'm concerned.

Plus the excuses the writers give for her, a female elf, a qunari role that involves fighting are absurd. Oh assassins are SO different from warriors, my mistake. Sten made it pretty clear women never have roles as such. While I think qunari women should be allowed to have a place there, it completely goes against what we knew about their society.

I really HATED her when I saw the first trailer for the DLC. Thinking "ohmygod this is going to be lame." And when my brain is locked like that (I know, extremly childish...) I always have a hard time changing my mind.
But when I started to play the DLC, she grew on me. Now I really really like her! She is funny and a very balanced character, and I hope we will see more of her in the future. She is the coolest female character in the DA universe so far (as well as Morrigan).

Go Bioware :D

I liked Tallis, I thought she meshed well with the rest of the cast, and I think it's almost inevitable that she'll turn up again. Part of me wonders if she'll join in the post-game expansion I hope is planned, but I'm not sure how well that'd mesh with Varric's narrative. He is a compulsive liar, though.

The Qunari treatment of mages is more brutal and horrid than the circle. The Saarebas have no chance at all. As soon as they are found mages they are bound, muted, chained, and assigned to an Arvaarad ("one who holds back evil") Ketojan kills himself because he fears without an Arvaarad the evil inside him will cause harm. Completely, and utterly brainwashed. LOL, since Rei fixed their post -- I meant this in terms of how she can just ignore this fact. It's very frustrating.
...

The relationship between the Arvaarad and the Saarabas is very reminiscent of the relationship between the Sul'dam and the Damane in the Wheel of Time  series of books, where the Damane are considered too dangerous to leave unshackled. They are lead into battle by the Sul'dam, who treat the leashed Damane as pets.

After watching more Redemption, I not only want Tallis as a Partymember/LI in a Expansion, I now want Nyree as a Partymember. It would be neat to see a reunion of some sorts.
