I've played through the DLC once already with a post-game save, but I have several other playthroughs going at the moment as well. However, it seems to me like the best time to play the DLC would be in Act 2, right before the Arishok's attack on Kirkwall. You get some level-appropriate weapons that do nature damage, that would pretty much make the end of Act 2 a cake walk. I found that the rest of the items were completely lackluster and ultimately useless end-game.

In my Act 3 playthrough, fighting against the Qunari after having already beaten the Arishok also seemed anti-climactic. Kind of a "didn't I already beat you guys?" kind of feel.

Any thoughts?

Doesnt really matter I guess the only change is the respect Hawke is given after being a champion.

To me it seems the most dialogue comes from a Post game save.

There's also the recognition between you and Leliana as well I suppose. Hmmm.

I think late act 2 would work best, after the romance is established (if there is one) and after All That Remains.

Do characters talk to you about your end game choice? That sounds interesting since everything ends sort of quickly at the ending of DA2.

On my new playthrough (computer died, bye bye save games) I was planning on playing Legacy in the middle of Act 2 for the Bethany and Mom Hawke dialogue and also to use the armour and weapons for that chapter. Then, I was thinking of starting MotA early Act 3 because the act is just short compared to the previous.

No, since MotA (like Legacy) takes place before the end game events.

There is recognition from Teagan to Hawke as well, or at least there was when Teagan and King Alistair dropped by to get told off by Meredith.

I really liked the sword I got off the "Mine! Mine! Mine!" Baron from the hunt when he came back at the end for revenge. 42 Electricity damage, 9% attack speed, 10% (or maybe 18% I can't read it very well, text is too freaking small and blurry) threat generation, and enemies cannot dodge attacks. I gave this to Aveline while she was wearing the amulet from Legacy that gives a 9% threat generation boost and I finally had a tank that pulled aggro from the whole room with ease ala Origins/Awakening, lol. Well at least during Mota, I look foward to using that sword and necklace in the main game at a later point.

Just don't ask me what the swords called, I can't read it all. I'm lucky I could halfway decipher the stats, lol.

Not really, but if you off Anders (and presumably other characters that fight against you, I dunno for sure) then you can't bring him along with you.

Most of the dialogue from npcs seems to be related to Hawke's status as the Champion. Some characters like Leliana and Teagan seem to react a bit differently based on whether you encountered them before or not.

I think Act 3 would be best as that gets you the most recognition from NPCs. I feel Legacy is personally better in Act 2 before Leandra dies.

Summing up reactions and adding my own imput:
Most familiar faces showing up at the party: Late Act 3 or Postgame.
Getting the most use out of the items you earn from playing the DLC: Late Act 2 before Arishok boss fight.
It seems there are mini-quests to find some companion-specific accessories for any of your companions you bring with you for the DLC (however, at the time of Post-Game, these items were not as useful had I found them earlier in the game). The same with the weapons you find along the way.
