As other's have said, depends on which one it is.

A couple of them (Spacer background) will stay in the service and raise a family, like their parents.

Some will try to find where the Reapers originated with their LI if they have one.

One or two will quit the service (colonists) and maybe buy a farm and raise chickens and kids for a few years, then travel to visit old friends.

A couple will resign from being a spectre and stay in the service until they die or retire and a couple will stay as spectres until they die or retire. They will have ups and downs with their LI over the years, but care enough to work out any problems they have.

And one will quit and go with Garrus to fight the good fight right wrongs and blow things up together.

I already had an idea similar to this. Shepard creates a new organisation with the remains of Cerberus, Spectres and Shadowbroker forces and names it 'Argenteus'. Its alright, and I've used it in fanfiction, but they'd have to write it plausibly. Everyone in Cerberus are completely dedicated to its goals and the Illusive man. It wouldn't un unplauisble that Shepard would have to destroyed the entire of the Organsation's personel before attempting something like this.

Well if my Shepard will be still alive after ME3...first she will on Omega in Afterlife club with her crew and companions in arm to celebrate end of war ( with a lot of alcohol, Asari dancers and hundsome soldiers of course around). Then, she will grab Joker, stole Normandy, take Jack, Samara, Grunt, Wrex, Thane, Garrus, Tali,Kasumi, and Zaeed ( of course, if they will be still alive) and go to play a Pirate Queen in a Terminus System.

After the mop up of remaining Cerberus/Reaper forces Sam Shepard will try to retire with Ash but after a year is just restless. He'll reaffirm his Spectre status use the massive funds leftover from the war and the subsequent movie, book adaptations of his story as well as autographs to buy and upgrade the SR2 and create the Normandy SR3. Then put together a squad and do what he does best whoop some ass.

As far as I'm concerned, ME3 didn't happen.

However, after shortly after ME2:

--Eyla Shepherd takes a leave of absence and leaves Miranda and Garrus in charge of the Normandy
--She takes Thane to have a lung transplant, which lengthens his lifespan considerably. Recovery is fast, b/c it's 2185, or whatever.
--Following his brief recovery from the transplant, Eyla and Thane take a quick vacation to some secluded desert planet, where they get to work on making little green babies.
--Then back to the Normandy to kick some Reaper butt. They save the universe, but plenty of people die. Mass relays are fine. Geth and Quarians make peace.
--Eyla and Thane have had enough at this point. They go back to the desert planet to retire and get back to work on making lttle green babies. They have 3. Kolyat visits periodically.
--They leave the Normandy to Garrus and Miranda, who along with the crew, keep doing good work in the galaxy, using Liara's intel as the Shadow Broker, and Miranda's secret Cerberus files. C'mon, you know she has personal copies of everything on her omni-tool, despite TIM firing her butt and cutting her out of the loop.
--The Hanar succeed in finding a cure to Kepral's Syndrome 2 years after Thane's transplant; he receives the cure immediately, due to the Compact agreement his family had with the Hanar.

 Well my imagination is taking a long leave of absence to build a house on Rannoch with Tali.

Eventually civilian life would get dull for both of them though. I imagine Shepard either becoming an Admiral, or a liason to the Quarians for the Alliance.

Well. One of them is the Citadel now, and dead. But some fragments of her mind live on in the Catalyst, enough to make amusing glitches, especially when Garrus walks by.

One of them is mildly crippled after destroying synthetics at close range, and will probably be forced to retire and write up her autobiography with Kaidan...

One of them jumped into the beam after the way Thane died, hoping that it will help with diseases.

So. Dead, incapacitated, and dead!

[Working with the ending as it is:] My Shepard, John (Soldier and Paragrade, Spacer and War Hero) would be in the hospital for weeks or even months as he recuperates from his injuries following the defeat of the Reapers. However, he will never be the same. His memory is fragmented after the charge to the beam and only really remembers Anderson dying beside him. He is just exhausted and demoralized. He suffers from insomnia and constant night terrors, which is only lessened because of Ash, his love and fiancee. She does her best in helping Shepard, juggling between him and "their" status of Spectres. He becomes a General, the youngest in the Alliance forces. They are continually called upon to help with the galaxy, especially Krogan-Turian relations. Of course his friends also help out the best they can. However, Shepard is just a shell of his former self, gets a drinking problem, and puts in a voluntary release from the Alliance, and drops off the map for a little while, with Ash by his side (yet still holding her commission in the Alliance), as their try to escape the ever present public and political strife that the galaxy holds.

They turn up again after almost a decade, raising a family on a isolated human colony with two kids. Once the news circulates throughout the galaxy, he becomes a "celebrity" and requested by many for help! He does take on the odd mission for old friends, allies and the Alliance, but maintains a clear distance from galactic politics.

I have more, but I am tired.
Edit: He tries to lead a normal life as much as possible. His children have a hard time adjusting to their father's status, living up to it and have major problems growing up that Shep and Ash must deal with. All of his surviving sqaudmates become "aunts" and "uncles" to the Shepley children. Shepard does eventual write a book about leadership, using many of his experiences as an example, and it becomes an instant success, making him rather rich as well. He does become a frequent guest speaker for diplomats and members of the Alliance, including young Officer Cadets. He refuses to write a autobiography.
Oh, and he takes up photography as well and eventually "Spectre Ashley Williams nude" becomes a rather popular internet search term

Well he wakes up in a hospital to see Jack sitting by his side...she grabs him, tears streaking down her face, and says "Dont Ever do that **** again boy scout", he gasps out from how tight shes holding him, chuckles, and says "Make sure I dont" he then uses the arm that is not bandaged to hold her, the scene pans back as Garrus, Zaeed, and a few other squadies coming into the room. Zaeed's holding a bottle of whiskey and says "theres the big god damn hero" as the screen fades to black.

I have more specific plans for each of them, but there are too many to list in detail. Most important thing is that they live. The last Shepard I played (Colonist/War Hero) will take a much-deserved vacation with Garrus, and the next (Earthborn/Sole Survivor) would probably end up going between his homeworld and Tali's, building a home for her and at the same time helping to repair the damage to Earth.

Retiring somewhere sunny with Liara and his brother-from-a-turian-mother Garrus. Attempting to persuade Liara to disregard asari life stages' norms, so that Shepard might have enough time left to see them leave home 50-60 years later. Also, traveling around to track down and meet former squadmates.

This is all assuming the EC provide a satisfactory hope for the galaxy Shepard saved/"saved".

I see my Jake Shep going back to Lesuss and picking Falere up. Moving to Tessia. Also before they do that they drop Javik and Liara off on the Hanar homeworld where Liara finds out that Protheans can also have kids like Asari regardless of having a shlong.

But yeah Jake Shep and Samara live on Thessia and they they get flung into a giant black hole where they meet the many other Shep and Samara couples out there and they then develop and interuniversal gateway so they can have dinner with each other anytime they like. Oh and also Jake Shep went and killed Han'Gerrel and Xen.

My Shepard is Liara gets married and has those blue children, and keeps all those promises he made as well as having those drinks with his squadmates.

My other play threw my Shepard is with Samara, whether they settle down or go off righting wrongs in the galaxy they both are together and happy. As well as keeping those promises and having those drinks with the crew/squadmates.
