Is there any way to make to make the camera in the level editor behave in the exact same way as in the area editor?

It would be better to do it the other way around. Otherwise, you would need to constantly annoy yourself by "switching modes" in your head.

Hello, I'm new here and to the game.  I'm stuck in the game, where you have to run up to the tower and light the fire but we can't kill the monster.  Does anyone know how to beat this monster and Light the fire??

Luthor, try the spoilers forum. To the OP, you have my heartfelt sympathies. I'm so used to the WASD controls (and the controls in other toolsets like the TES toolset), that I keep hitting 5 on the number pad, which of course resets your view. Totally frustrating.

My god, completely wrong topic in the completely wrong forum. Add in the fact that you hijacked a topic with absolutely no relation to your question and I suggest THINKING before you post.

Erm, I actually cannot figure out how to adjust the angle and move forward in an efficient manner. Can somebody help me out?

Edit: Nevermind, found the controls in 3D controls part of the toolset wiki.

I cannot figure out how to change the camera's angle.  What you figured out might be just what I am looking for, so please, when you find the answer to your peoblem, tell us what it was.  That way I would not have had to make a duplicated posting to get the answer that you already found.

Yeah, like he'll be coming back, Nikki.

Here's what I found on how to move your view in the level editor; http://social.biowar....php/3D_control

If you scroll down, you'll notice a few ways to adjust your view, like NWN style or 3DSMax Style. There's a disclaimer though, not easy to spot; only the 3DSMax Style works for now!

So, to zoom around the editor with mouse for example, press ALT and middle mouse button at the same time, and hover your mouse around. This, accompanied with wasd already gets you everything you need, though in an awkward manner.

You can alternatively use a Flying camera style. In this mode you rotate your camera around itself (like turning our head) and use WASD keys to move. I prefer this much more than the 3dsMax style, myself.

To activate 'flycam' mode, use the button seen in the middle of the top row (right above where it says Flemeth's Hut). in the image it is labelled "Set Camera to flycam style", and the button looks like a little tiny grey camera above the text WASD.

I have been trying to do that same thing in the level editor (all good in the area editor) and nothing works. I can pan back and forth and using the number pad key "5" recenters the image. "4" and "6" pan back and fourth "8" ans "2" zoom in and out. But I can't change the camera angle... Anyone else have this problem?

I had to install the software that came with my mouse to make the scroll wheel act as a third button. Then you can hold and the middle button to move left, right, up, and down in one mode, or to rol left or right in another. Still crappy controls though. It's so hard to get the camera where you want it. Some say you can change the camera controls to match the rest of the toolset editors, but I dont know how.

Yes you can. Set them both to use 3dsMax controls and then they will be the same.

You can set the camera mode for most editors in the Options window (Tools->Options). Use the list on the left to specify which editor's options you want to change. The one you're looking for is called Mouse Control Style. It's not available for all editors, but it does exist for the Area editor, for example.

Yes, the Area editor cam system (NWN) is great.  Unfortunately, the Level editor (which is what this thread is about) does not have the camera option to change.  Anyone else wanna take a crack at this?

Yeah, I have to bring this up again. I'm currently trying to adjust to the toolset camera controls (testing in level editor), but I just don't get it. Here's my problem - I cannot rotate the screen or move the camera forwards or backwards. Right click + ctrl and dragging does absolutely nothing. It's silly that I have to ask this, but nothing I read in the tutorials worked so far.

Camera control is absolutely terrible. I usually prefer the flycam style using W,A,S,D keys to move the camera and mouse to rotate the camera. But the camera will move very slowly (about 0.5m/s) so it's taking a quite lot of time to move over a short distance. Is there a way to increase the speed.

In the level editor using my mouse' wheel is not practical at all. I tried to edit DefaultSettings.xml so I could use Alt+RMB instead of Alt+MMB (since the right mouse button isn't used when alt is pressed), but I can't get it working. Any idea what exactly should I change?

I always map my middle button to my thumb. Not just because of this game. I always do this because I don't like trying to press the mouse wheel down.

Also, you can zoom slower if you hold down shift when you spin the mouse wheel.

Do you mean the Back/Forward buttons in the side? Is there any way I can map it directly in the settings.xml file or do I have to use the mouse drivers and do that from there? I really hope it's the former :)

The best way to work in the level editor I have found so far is to use Alt and the right mouse button, by maping RMB+Alt instead of MMB+Alt, which is close to the camera controls in the area editor. As is says in the wiki, the section in the DefaultSettings.xml about the camera in the level editor and 3dsMax mode is the one between <Threedsmax> and </Threedsmax>.

What I would like to do is also to change the button for moving in the level editor from having to press and hold the wheel button, into pressing LMB+Alt. I thought that if I changed the line:

<MoveCameraFly Function="MoveCameraFly" Chord="MMB">

in the <Threedsmax> section it would work, but it doesn't. Any idea?

so i found out that the default for the level editor camera setting is the 3dsmax. is there a way to change that to the nwn style? having a trackball is really not very practical to use the middle mouse button

If you have a configurable mouse, you can set the Alt+MMB to Alt+RMB which is a lot easier to work with. If you don't have one, you are stuck with using MMB in the level editor. You could try disabling the zoom function using the scroll-wheel in the settings - I haven't tried it and don't know if it works.

Apart from configurability, does a really good mouse make it any easier to use the level editor?
