 Hello, everybody!

I've been chatting with a few of the BioWare staff about the possibility of ultra hi-res texture packs for Mass Effect 1 and 2.  It would be quite a task for the devs to release such a thing, due to the way assets are packaged in cache files.  However, they are going to mention the idea to the devs and find out if it is a feasable possibility.

Before anyone posts about it, I know there are TexMod ways to inport custom hi-res textures.  What we're asking for is the original texture files created by the BioWare artists and some official way to replace the textures (whether that be through a massive patch or an official BioWare-released TexMod-like utility).

So, post here if you're interested!  Let's show the staff that this is something we'd really want, and that it would be worth their while to put something like this together!

Thanks, and have a great day!

It would be awesome, but I doubt it so highly, that I can't even come up with something that is as unlikely as this...
They didn't even fix some of the bugs in ME2 and consider it done, so why would they do something like this?

TexMod is btw NOT an alternative, it's the best a private person can do to improve something that should have been improved by the devs in the first place. I love the work of JeanLuc, he did a great job, but
a) it shouldn't have been necessary
B) it's very limited
c) it's unstable
d) the last time I needed 10 minutes or more to start ANYTHING up on a computer was in the mid nineties on my 486...

Let's not criticize here. I'm just looking to show the devs that we'd like better textures for both games. Thanks!

I have no idea really. I would even buy 1 and 2 if they were in the new ME engine.

I mean it - ME2 is really good looking - if they had ME1 in that kind of detail it would be awesome.

I'd rather see texture pop-in eliminated than just sexier texture, but then again either getting patched probably won't happen since I'm a 360 guy.

There's no way to make stuff look better in ME unfortunately without getting third party software and possibly reducing my frame rates. So if it's a possibility count me in.

To be honest, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've never had a problem with the textures, even Garrus in ME1, so whilst I'd happily download a hi-res patch I'm not exactly gagging for it.

Texmod is causing ME2 to take 10 minutes to load on your system? What are your general specs I can probably help improve launch time.

I know it may seem out of place and not relevant but even my 486 would load in under 2 minutes. Could be that I had more ram. I maxed out the eight ram slots with original SIMM (30-Pin) RAM chips that were 16 MB a piece (I know, even at that time they were rare but they existed).

I'd rather they concentrate on a hi-res texture pack for ME3.

But i certainly wouldnt say no to a ME1 or ME2 texture pack.

I wouldn't mind seeing hi-resolution texture packs for ME and ME2.  As was mentioned before I'd like to see one for ME3 also.  BioWare could do something similaer to what Crytek did with Crysis 2: release a patch alongside the texture pack.

No matter what, I'm down for this.

I've been using JeanLuc's ultra textures for a while now, then my game HDD died. After reinstalling ME2 and firing it up with no mods - OMG, I had forgotten how bad the original textures were. Would so love for the devs to release a hi-res pack for both ME1 & ME2.

IMO Mass Effect 3 should come (at least the PC version) with  hi-res textures already in it.

Cheers for this thread too :)

Would be nice but not a high priority for me, and I probably wouldn't get them unless the price was pretty low.

For someone who runs ME 1 at high and is disappointed by the results, yes.
