Incorrect Il Divo.....

When I drive down to London, or fly to the States, the 'optimal' way to get there is not necessarily the 'best' way to get there....they are and always have been two very different things.

If in this instance they actually are the same, then Casey needs his own PR rep to write his blurb out for him.

But my original statement still holds regardless of the endings....if there is more to 'see' (and by that I do not mean random generic map ala CoD), then in order to get the full Mass Effect experience, MP is being railroaded onto us.

Not so much of an issue to me anymore with the news that co-op can be done without actually co-operating with anyone else lol...which was really my only concern...so whatever there is to see in the game, 'if' the current news is correct, then regardless of endings, I can play and see and do everything on my own. Which is fine by me :)

Holy crap I hope you're right about that, didymos.

The quote is accurate as far as what's in the magazine.  Of course, that doesn't mean the article writer got that particular fact straight.

And to back up Killjoy...as he is receiving a lot of unneeded hate right now..

Casey Hudson has said...playing Sp will give you the 'optimal' ending...and playing MP will give you a better ending...

HIS words...not mine, not Killjoy's....Casey's....now unless some people here really don't grasp the English language, 'optimal' and 'better/best' do not mean the same thing..

So which is it exactly Casey?

I play alone and im really worried, i might cancel my pre order and buy it a bit later when its cheaper, hopefully it will be just as good as the others. I just dont want to wast 70 pound and be disappointed like i was with dragon age, I know it was a diffrent team, but its still bioware and its a big change.70 pound is a lot of money if i dont like the game.

Optimal is synonymous with best; they both indicate the superlative. If something is "the best", then comparatively speaking it remains better than something else, such as a worse ending. My grasp of the English language is not the problem at the moment. For your comparison to be valid, it must read "playing MP will give you a better ending than only playing the single-player".

Whereas some of us have charitably interpreted his remark in what I think is the more likely concept:

"Playing MP will give you a better ending compared to the ending you would have received with the same level of completion/perfection in just SP play."

Which is true. If you get, for example, 60% of the needed assets in SP, but the MP lets you get 20% more, you will get whatever ending happens with 80%. What some keep insisting is that there's some conspiracy that says you cannot get 100% of your assets in just the SP, or that there's some mysterious ending for having more than 100% of your required assets. 1) is distrust and paranoia, and I can't argue against such. 2) is simply a reward for playing the MP game, and as such, only MP participants get to have it as a reward (and rightfully so). But it's been made clear that the SP campaign allows you to get 100% of what you need for the best ending.

Oxford English Dictionary would indicate otherwise. I assume you are, for whatever reason, using optimal strictly to mean efficient, which would make no sense from a logical perspective. "Multiplayer will allow you to obtain the most efficient ending?" What does that even mean? Here Casey is using optimal to mean best circumstances.

That's your choice, of course, but it is worth pointing out that you can play the co-op missions solo.

Which would only be rage-worthy if you were being charged for the extra content, which you're not.

Will the coop difficulty levels be "adjusted" by modifying game files, or will it be considered cheating?

And efficiency depends on what resource you're trying to consume efficiently. If it's time, you drive a car. If it's fuel/energy, you ride a bike.

What measure of efficiency are we observing for the sake of this debate?

Every time Casey says ME3 is the best place to start, I die a little more inside.

Yep.

You actually do know that it's only marketing, don't you? If he said something among the lines of: 'yup, we've made this game so that you'll have no clue if you haven't played the previous games. So go ahead and give us moar money, please.'

Yes, I know it's total PR BS. That's why I agreed w/ shinobi602 in the first place.  I guess I'm just tired of BS.

I have read through the all the posts thus far, and no one seems to have asked about a specific thing in the multiplayer yet, so I will. Can we please have QUARIANS IN MULTIPLAYER?!?

Then if Casey meant the same, why not use the same word I wonder hmmm?

Again, optimal and better...do not equal the same.

Regardless....as you have all conveniently ignored (as you all seem more intent on having a go at people than actually contributing to the thread)...my original concern seems to have been answered, so I actually have no issue with MP if that is the case.

To be honest the more I hear I'm not seeing a strong story based co-op addition but a shallow 'Horde' mode added to sell map-packs.

I want to be wrong, I hope to whatever deity you chose to follow that I am.

Here I assume we're using it to mean "best circumstances" with regard to a single-player ending. Ex: Least casualties, everyone lives, that sort of thing.

Really pleased with all of today's news, though. :)
