Optional multiplayer WTF?!! Is this an attempt to appeal to the COD crowd? This game is a story based SINGLE player game. It doesn't need this gimmick.

Please read the thread on the Multiplayer FAQ before continuing.

Why not have 2 discs?

Forza 3 did it and it was still a 60$ buy. One for the main story, and the other installs multiplayer.

They have. They're not sure if ME3 can even fit on two discs.

Why dont they just make a game system specifically for Mass Effect.

The disc would be around the size of a record.

OK, great.   I still don't see what the point of "calling it" is.  What does it prove if you end up being right?  What do you get out of being right?

That MP was a bad idea to start with, especially when the MASS EFFECT FANS NEVER ASKED FOR THIS?

Conjecture, unless you have interviewed every owner of ME1 and ME2.

Which is USUALLY the case.

There's also #3.

3.  MP= Limited lifespan= Half a game not playable.

Co-op has a limited lifespan now? Ha. Good one.

Nevermind the fact that it isn't half the game anyway, and even if it were, all the merrier considering ME3's main game is going to be as long if not longer than ME2.

Um, that won't prove it was a bad idea, unless you think popularity is the only metric that matters. Also, wrt the ALLCAPS: some ME fans did indeed ask for it.  Not you, not me, and not most.  But the fact remains, plenty still did.

It's really a win/win, especially since the main team isn't taking resources away from single player for cooperative play.

When they have people up to the wee hours of the morning (according to the Pulse video) playing multiplayer, they may not be getting their rest to focus on single-player during the day.

They should just throw in a third disc and get it over with.

I'm fine with swapping those things.

Pretty sure we've met more Quarians outside the flotilla than Drell.

The drell I've seen: Thane, Kolyat and Feron.

Then we have Lia'Vael, those two quarians on Illium, Kenn, the one you can rescue from varren (nice reference to Ascension, by the way) Kal'Reegar, Veetor, Praaza and his team, the list goes on.

I would argue that Drell are easier to have as "persistent" since they do not have to worry about suit punctures. We can hand wave it for Tali since she's being patroned by Shepard/Cerberus, but the average quarian might have a lot of issues recovering from wounds.

So am I. FFS, I grew up with FFVII through FFIX and the other Squaresoft games of that era on the PSX. A few of those old JRPGs had four discs. I never shed a tear.

That, and if it's done right, the co-op can still be used years from now.

Exactly. And if I recall current gen FFXIII had 3 discs, and Lost Odyssey had 4.

Popularity with the games usually DOES factor in the longevity. Can you play GRAW 2 online on X-Box Live right now? I couldn't, and I tried it in between APRIL-JULY 2010.  Could you play F.E.A.R. 3 online right now? Last time I checked, no one can, as far as JULY 2011. Can you play any of the earlier Splinter Cell games online? Barely.

Many of the games I grew up with required swapping discs...floppy disks, that is.  The first one I can remember swapping out disks was Starflight.

What I've seen so far looks absolutely terrible. How much disc space is being taken from the proper game so this can be tacked on?

You're making the assumption that content was removed from the discs to make room for the Co-Op content, when it is equally (or more) likely that the additional content may be on its own disc, if necessary.

Amazing, isn't it, how people are so quick to assume the absolute worst case scenario. Since no one here is actually working on the game itself maybe we should have a little faith in Bioware. If they have seen the posts across the internet saying people want co op then they have also seen the ones saying don't ruin the singleplayer for multiplayer. Like i said, amazing, that with a handful of screenshots people have already come to a conclusion on how much they like it, how well it plays, how much it impacts the singleplayer story and how bigger turds bioware are for ruining their singleplayer experience.

Yes and when you have them taking lunch breaks, they're losing time they could use to focus on single player

Ah, I'd forgotten what they did with XIII for the 360 as I actually bought it for PS3. Lost Odyssey though, quite true -- four discs! On the 360!

It does raise the price of manufacturing each individual copy, and that's ultimately the biggest factor, I suppose. I just feel like if a company such as Japan's Mistwalker is getting the publishing OK for four discs, EA's Bioware shouldn't have too big a hassle with it. The return is guaranteed.

Maybe.  How are we supposed to know? And let's say there are bugs.  Guess what?  You still have no way to know if the lack of MP would have made any difference.   I mean, we had import bugs in ME2 and there's no MP to scapegoat for those.

Dude, quit changing subjects.  Now you're on about longevity, but you haven't said why lack of popularity means it was a bad idea.  Lots of good ideas never catch on.  Lots of bad ideas do.  So, tell me again how it dying in 2 months will prove it was a bad idea.

I don't know if multiplayer will cause import bugs or whatever (I highly doubt it) but I have to admit I am still annoyed at bioware for not fixing import bugs that are still present in their games. It might be a minor thing but import bugs can hurt immersion and bioware does like to brag about the importing aspect of their games.

I should clarify its not so much the bugs that upset me, but bioware not fixing them. Having to use a fanmade save editor to fix it is not cool.

Edit: although come to think of it they probably can't fix the conrad one since that bug started in ME1, but still.
