Well, according to this tweet, I would assume so.

Gosh darn it! I was hoping to do the Co-Op first before doing the single player campaign so I can get that out the way and devote all my time to the campaign. I dont want to be going back and forth b/w co-op and single player! Its going to be horrible going through the campaign, getting into it, and then having to stop at a certain point because you recruited *insert race desired* to then head to co-op. Obviously they say the better you do in co-op, the more effect it'll have in the campaign. Clearly that means this should be done before the single player is finished since it'll effect the ending as well. Blah this is turning out to be a hassle. Why cant we be able to pick out the race we want in co-op from the start Posted Image

I have a message for the creators of Mass Effect, or whoever posts on this forum. But um...will you be able to play Mass Effect 3's multiplayer offline? Like will it have split-screen? Because I don't have Xbox Live, but I would still love to play multiplayer. :)

I wish that this will be a feature too; but for some reason I highly doubt there will be splitscreen.

You never know, maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be included.

Splitscreen takes quite a bit of hw-power. Considering how hopelessly outdated consoles are at this point in the cycle, I don't think it's in the cards...unless the mp levels are considerably lighter, graphically, than the sp levels.

Then they lied when they said you wouldn't have to play MP to get the FULL single player experience. Why would they ruin my happiness like that? Does this mean I'm gonna have to pay for Xbox Live Gold to 100%.

You can play the co-op offline with just yourself.

Where is this sayed?

I mean, there is different have ability soloing MP content ONLINE, than soloing MP content OFFLINE.

I'm sure someone can find the quote, but I'm certain you can play the missions solo. And I've never seen a game where you have to be online to play something solo. You need the online pass to play online, but I'd be shocked if you can't play alone offline on the co-op missions.

There are plenty of splitscreen games that run just fine. Portal 2 comes to mind.

As I said -it all depends on how much hw power they are willing to sacrifice for split-screen mode. If BW is fine with a graphically less appealing mp than, of course, split-screen is possible.

Yes, we know that you can play MP content solo.

How ever, playing OFFLINE means there is no internet connection required at all. So, if you play MP content solo, why would anyone neen ONLINE PASS? Remember there is no internet connection in OFFLINE playing, so where would the online pass be used?

I think you get my point. So, while you assume there is offline MP content soloing, I would assume that there is only MP content soloing in online. Meaning you need to login from start of the game. Same way that Biowared DLC content requires ONLINE connection for DRM checking, when game is started (at least in PC's). You can't play any online content without internet connection.

The online pass is for people who want to play online with other people. As you say, you don't need the internet to play the co-op missions solo, but you need the internet to play with more people, hence the pass.

Basically, you need the pass to do the missions in actual co-op rather than alone.

Yes, but you assume that MP content can be played without online pass. That's not neccassary the case.

It is an assumption, but a reasonable one - before activation of the code, you can only play the co-op stuff solo (or split-screen if thats available, but I doubt it). After activation you'll be able to play online too. At least, I imagine thats how it'll work.

I don't assume same ways you do. Example DLC's requires DRM checking (online connection) everytime You start game. My assumption is that MP content even if player playes alone, will do same, requires online pass connection before MP content can be access.

I ques we will see how it will work in next year.

What you mean on the Xbox? That's not true, I've played ME2 and its DLCs while offline plenty of times.

And on the PC, as far as I know, they only require a one-time authentication after being installed.  I say "as far as I know" because I think a couple of them don't

Nope I'm talking PC version. You can't play DLC content offline. You can play it so that you start game online with DLC content and then cut the internet connection off. Put game doesn't allow you to start playing offline with DLC content, if you have started it ones online with DLC content. Without DLC content you can play offline the game just fine. Meaning if you start NEW game as offline, you will play it without DLC content.

You don't have to be logged in though.  I haven't done that in I don't know how long now because of the auto-login bug, and I've had no complaints about the DLC.

That is true. The DRM check for DLC content is done only ones when game start. After that the internet connection is not needed for gameplay. How ever, starting game does require it, if you want DLC content to be there.

Mass Effect 3 will be awesome. I didn't play ME and ME2 myself, but I did watch my friends playing it. Awesome, yet epic story, indeed!

When I do have my new PC, I'll buy ME and ME2 for it and play through.
Am also looking forward to ME3, especially with its MP content(s). Will be a hell of a fun aspect with friends! :)

While the joke you put, compariing Vader to Helmet, is, I must admit, hilarious, it doesnt properly convey what's really going on with the addition of the Cooperative mode into Mass Effect 3.

In truth, while you will be playing with other people, it will not be as in most Multiplayer modes where you are set up against an enemy team, consisting of real players, nor will you just be thrown into a 'Slayer' type gameplay mode where it's every man for himself. Instead, you will be given the option to further your ability to fight the Reapers by teaming up with three other people, using a new group of characters that you can design and create strictly for Co-op, which, in turn, will actually help Shepard's attempt to save te galaxy in the Single Player Campaign.

Now, if you do not wish to play the Cooperative mode, Casey Hudson has clearly stated that you dont have to and that it is ENTIRELY optional. I believe that the whole point of true RPGs is to give you more choice in how you accomplish a goal, correct? That's why many of us shy away from games like Call of Duty and Halo. Becuase they're so... linear. They have one outcome which never changes. My point is, adding a Cooperative mode, in the way that Bioware has for ME3, simply gives the player more choice as to how he or she wishes to complete the game.

If it isnt your thing, then simply dont play it. If it is, then go for it. I however will reserve final judgement for when I actually have the game at my fingertips.

Are you talking about xbox? Because i've played ME2 countless times without internet and it didn't cut out DLC for me. Same goes for PC.

I allready sayed above that PC. Yes, you can play fine ME series games without internet, but you can't play ME2 series game with DLC's without internet connection when you start playing, because DRM checks for DLC content on PC when game starts.

Then I was like ...

Eh ... don't care really. If this is what they want, so be it.
I really don't have to time to play multiplayer anyway. I'll just take whatever ending I end up on, be it horrible or no.
