Personally, I never had an issue with the ammo holograms whatsoever, in fact, I always though they were a nice little effect. But if others feel they are obstructive, then I agree with the toggle option mentioned earlier, so long as it leaves the side lighting alone.

I apologize for going off-topic here, but I just wanted to say that you have a very good looking female Shepard ( as far as I can tell ) in the posted picture. Could you possibly post an unobstructed picture of her please?

I don't really mind the icons at all. In fact, you only notice them getting in the way in cutscenes if you are wielding the weapon that will be used BEFORE you go into the cutscene. So switch to your assault rifle or shotgun or sniper rifle or heavy weapon (which are rarely present in polite conversation :) ) before the cutscene, and you won't see any ammo type indicator.

And excellent point about colourblind people. There really is no other way to tell......

Transparency would be nice tho

That's a good alternative as well. It's just too obstructive now.

So either that and/or a toggle. And everyone will be happy.

I agree, they looked silly when folded on Shepard's back during cutscenes.

For me, it always looked like it was hanging off of the gun, rather than feeling like it was meant to be part of the gun - embedded in it. Too large? Maybe, it really wasn't the size itself that bugged me. It just looks very off putting compared to the rest. It communicates exactly what ammunition type you have, but perhaps a bit too well. It they tweak it, I would say try to make it look more like it's connected to the gun, and not just hanging off the side.

Is this a 360 thing because I play on the PC and you can set the ammo type for each of your weapons and the holograms will persist after holstering/cycling weapons. It's not simply active on one weapon at a time. Which is why I mentioned the whole sheathe-sticking-out-beyond-the-end-of-the-compacted-weapon thing earlier.

You'd have to manually unset the ammo type for your weapons before going into a cutscene to get the effect you mention. And honestly I think a lot of people like the effect of the holographic sheathe. It's just the ammo icon which always faces the camera that they have a problem with.

I would love to know how to turn them off before a cutscene.  I've tried hitting the key for the ammo power again to turn it off, but nothing.  My  experience (I play on PC as well) is that I can holster the weapon with an active ammo power and that ammo power never shows up on my Shepard in any cutscene.  The only time the ammo power is visible is if the game itself has to holster the weapon for the cutscene.  Then you get the sheath indicator of the ammo power used for that weapon.  It's also only done for just one weapon

i want more holograms!

id like the HUD to be removed completely. so id like more holograms insteadof more floating health bar bubbles. instead of health bars, just give the enemy a holographic shielding, like the game already does. i dont need a health bar bubble AND see tech armor on an enemy engineer.

at first i didnt lke the holograms in ME2, but that lasted about 5 seconds. holograms are sci fy cool to me.

I liked the icons. One, they are a cool HUD that fits with the setting. And two, they're helpful to ensure that your weapons and your squad mates' weapon have weapon mods activated without having to go to the power screen and slow down the action.

They might fit in the setting if they weren't designed to always face the camera. If they were flush with the surface of the weapon I'd agree.

Possibly, if we were being obnoxious and rude, typing in caps and threatening to cancel our preorders. But we are not.

I knew it! Something wasn't right from the very beginning. Don't threaten to cancel you'r preorder because of some minor stuff - it's not how we do things here on BSN.

The ammo effect only appears on your weapon in a cutscene if and only if you were wielding the cutscene weapon before the cutscene starts. So to avoid the ammo effect in cutscenes, try switching to weapons like sniper rifles, shotguns, or nuke launchers that will not be used in the cutscene. Then when Shepard shoves her pistol in someone's face, the ammo effect will not be seen. By the way, I have tried this on PC and the 360, normally because I want the opposite - "What happened to my flaming bullets?"

I dont have a problem with them(except for custscenes) but maybe Bioware should just give us an option to toggle it on/off. Or even better, maybe we could have different modes for how it looks like on a different part of the gun, its on the HUD instead, a different style, etc.

I should point out I've spent some time checking this out in game and the icon doesn't always "face the camera" as I claimed earlier, it just sticks out at a 90 degree angle from the weapon. There doesn't seem to be any consistency on which cutscenes have the holograms disabled which is unfortunate.

I know.  I mentioned it earlier in the thread.  It's just that what Athayniel said made me think I missed something, but unfortunately I didn't.  So I do employ the weapon switch walk-around.

I can deal with it because I never really thought about it before but...

They look silly. They really aren't useful at all. They're symbolic of the less than desirable route special ammo took, that is, as a power.

If I had a choice, I would prefer not to see them. This is similar to the guiding arrows we've seen in ME3 gameplay to show the player where you can go while in cover. It's overkill, honestly.
