old player coming back - looking for PW server

I'm an old NWN-player. it's probably my favourite computer game of all time. now - I'm just wondering what are the best PW servers nowadays? which ones have the most active community, the most players, the most content, etc? I prefer it being as DnD as possible. (if anyone had hak-files for Pathfinder rules, that would be amazing.)
get in touch whoever you are! recommend me PW servers. :-)

For a game geared toward a "D&D" feel with lots of custom content, even though it definitely doesn't have the most players, I'll recommend my own world: The World of Aenea. Action server with player led/initiated roleplay. A few bits of humor thrown in. Very helpful players that are active on the PW's forums even when they're not in-game.

What sort of server are you looking for? RP, action, otherwise? Would help a lot in determining which server would be the best fit.

Finding which ones have the most players is very easy.
Just go to the multiplayer/servers/gamespy lobby in the game, choose prefered style like "roleplay" or "action" tab....then sort all the servers on players. Join the one at the top.
Personally I think this is a bad way of choosing a server but I can understand players that do it.
Instead I'd recomend you first read on the servers homepage or forums a bit to get the feel of the server. Then actually play a bit. Yes...I also like when there are at least a couple of other players on but contradicting enough I found some low player count servers a lot more active than many high player count servers... Especially, Its funny how lonely you can feel on some high player count roleplay servers where using OOC help to get in a party is a no-no....
Naturally I'll have to plug the Xfire guild/community thingie I created on Xfire. Take a look on that page for tips on servers that are good and that might need more attention....(you don't need Xfire to look at the page...)

The server tips are spread out on different parts of the page. The top server tips, the down-to-the right favourites server list and the news section...and ofcourse the forums...

Alot of players would cling to a PW because they are familiar with it, like the admins or have friends that are players there.
Alot of the younger PW's sometimes go un-noticed.
www.nwn.azmodan.net/forum
Our server has lots of features, and is slowly but surely getting a very active weekend playerbase.
We also have a Resource Downloader that can download and install the latest Music and Sound Effects for use on our server. This content is optional. Not installing it wont prevent you from entering, it just wont let you hear music in the new areas of the module.
We have a dynamic loot system,
Rift System - Elemental Rifts spawn in randomly chosen areas of the server, which can then spawn armies of elemental demons.
Verbal Magic & Rituals - Speaking specific incantations and ritual phrases can trigger magical effects.
Vampire Bloodlines - Sire other players to make yourself, and your bloodline stronger.
**Divinity System** - This is in development, but will be a Post Level 40 Character Advancement System, allowing you to enhance your character with aspects from certain divinities.
StarGates - Because of our stargate system, we are able to create completely differently themed worlds, that players can 'gate' to. This allows us to create non-forgotten realms worlds, and have them accessible to players.
Epic Content - Customized Scripted Boss Battle scenes etc - One of our latest boss battles, has 4-5 different stages, triggered by his HP. At one point, he even spawns Shadow Copies of the party whom he is attacking.
Give us a try

RP. preferably controlled NPCs, and DM(s) that pays attention and tries to stimulate the world.
@The Amethyst Dragon
doesn't sound like my thing based on the info you've provided, but feel free to tell me more.
@SuperFly_2000
The Xfire website is currently undergoing maintenance. guess I'll have to re-check that.
@Baaleos
this sounds really not DnD at all. and post level 40 sounds a bit silly. as a DnD gamer, everything above level eight or so would for me indicate freaking superheroes. 40+ levels? that sounds like a dungeon crawler or hack'n'slash to me. not my thing, but thanks for the tip.
thanks for the input thus far, everyone.

If you're looking for more of a roleplay server, then Aenea probably isn't for you. We've got a small DM staff that when online, actually spend most of their time as players. The module is largely independently running and geared much more toward just action and exploration.
Good luck in your search!

Similarlly,
Im affraid Rhun wont be a valid choice, since we aim upward bound as far as epic levels go.
I cant actually imagine a server with a level cap of 8.
Im sure someone out there will have what your looking for.

Since blatant self-promotion seems permissable (
http://www.nwnravenloft.com
We are all about roleplay and got fairly high player count too, so there should be a good chance of meeting plenty of new people. And don't be daunted if you haven't played in the Ravenloft setting before - most characters arrive to the world as unfamiliar to the setting too, so there's a good possibility of learning through adventuring.
Hoping to see you there
