According to this site, ME3 demo will require Origin.

Let the flamewar and preorders canceling begins.

I will never install the Origin PC cancer, and I really hope that doesn't prevent me from enjoying this game :(

I don't see anything wrong with EA having their own store and client. Competition is a good thing!

What competition? EA doesn't allow competition, their (future) products are NOT available on Steam, GOG.com, or other digital platforms. Origin is EA's attempt to monopolize their business.

Not everything about Origin is bad and, in fact, some of it's features are pretty cool. It could be a good game client.

Origin isn't an optional service, it's enforced which makes it bad by definition (just like Steam with games that won't start without Steam installed).

Multiplayer will require Origin, SP might not require it so much. EA games are still available on other digital platforms, just not the DDE or CE.

Competition against Steam & other digital download services. Also GFWL and Steam Game clients.

I don't see these clients as bad if they have enough cool features such as cross game chat, auto patching ect to make them worthwhile.

My problem with Origin is the intrusive data mining. All the cool features in the world can't compensate something I think akin to a trojan.

EA wants to see what kind of CPU, graphics and sound card I
have? Fine. No problem. They want to check the specific folder where the game installed
to check for cheats? Er.......alright, that's a reasonable request for a
multi-player game I guess. I could go that far.

Ea wants to scan my entire hard drive and find out everything about what’s installed
on my PC? Why should I let EA know all of the software I have on there? What,
they want to be able to see pics of my girlfriend maybe? See my legal documents
and who my lawyer is? See what kind of stocks and bonds I have? What bank and
insurance companies I use?

So they can send me ads?

No way. Forget it. That is not only unreasonable it’s
completely asinine to think I would allow a game company that kind of access to
my private life.

That's the problem I have with Origin.

Judging by the reactions in this thread the topic should be changed from "requested" to "required"

I cancelled my pre-order as soon as I found out about Origin.

I kept my preorder, but I'm hoping to see them announce Origin to not be required. If it's required when the demo comes out, I wont install it. If it's required when the game comes out, I will skip it. If they want to hit me with spyware, they will pay me for it. Not the other way around. Thank ND for Uncharted 3 and SNK for KOF13. I can play those two forever if Im not able to get a Origin-free ME3. Ill youtube it or otherwise before I install Origin.

It looks like ME 3 needs you to be online all the time. I hope that is no yes on Origin...
Or maybe i missunderstod Chris Priestly.
I will get the collector retail version of the game, if I can play it without the Origin client. Let's hope.

I think thats why they closed the original thread and said we have to move it to off topic, because not as many people use that part of the forum.
I think whether or not Origin is required to play ME3 is most definitly a ME3 topic, but I think they would prefer to ignore the question by avoiding it and relegating the Question to the off-toppic part of the forum.

Listen, if a more popular game like battlefield 3 needs origins, why wouldn't a lesser game like mass effect 3 not have to use origins?

As stated on other threads, if ME3 requires Origin, I won't be buying, installing, or playing ME3.

I love Mass Effect and was looking forward to ME3 more than any other game. But if Origin is required to play than I am on the same boat as you Killjoy.

Like a lot of people here, my two biggest problems with Orgin is A) That its being FORCED upon us and B) The data mining, the SCANNING of our PERSONAL computers.
The good news is we have choice. And my choice is hell no! Image IPBI suppose since it is EA's product they have the right to enforce how they want us to play but I will never give it to them. We as gamers have rights too and EA is trying to take them away. Well, at least that is how I feel.

Guys, I'm pretty sure your PCs do not contain any classified data of the national security level. Not even slightly above that.
So, seeing as this crap topic "I will not tolerate spyware Origin on my computer blah-blah-blah" evolves and progresses for many months in a row, I can just say, why exactly does this happen, and why this concernes you so much(or does it?). Yet you don't want me to. Trust me. I'll be accused of trolling right away if I do that.

I value my privacy more than that, and even if ot's more and more difficult I try to keep it as safe as I can, my personal data is not of their concern. Probably you wouldnt let the first stranger you met on the street to have access, let's say, to your mobile phone no?

Don't give too much power to big companies......

I would say calling a topic "crap" pretty much puts you in trolling territory straight away.  If you don't like the topic then ignore it.  You clearly do not have a problem with Origin or what it does and more power to you if you are happy with that then I am not going to waste my time trying to convince you other wise.  Now how about you show us the same courtesy eh ?  There are plenty of people not happy with Origin and what it does and they want Bioware to know that they do not want Mass Effect 3 to be infested with the Origin client.

@Feanor_II, yeah well, I don't care what Origin scans in my computer, I have nothing to hide. More than that, the EULA clearly states that even if they do hand over the collected data to a 3rd party, they won't leave no signs that can help identify me as a particular person.
With all this said, please keep in mind that I am not a fanboy of EA. Quite the opposite, since because of Origin ME3 may not make it to Steam. But I'm trying to be realistic anyway.

@charmingcharlie, so, now I'm a troll because I judge this topic? Yes, I talk straight, but if you call that trolling... You must think that, probably, all politicians, show-people, journalists etc. are trolls. I mean any person who speaks what he thinks, avoiding to be excesivelly official.
Back on topic. I think you're smart enough to realize that Bioware, arguing with her "boss" about the correctitude of the marketing strategies, and sane thinking, are two things that mutually exclude each other.

Let's say you buy a Maytag appliance, and the appliance comes with a document you must sign to take it home and install it.  It says that you must give Maytag a key to your house and permission to stop by and look around whenever they feel like it, go through your mail and your paperwork, see what which other appliaces you have, what you do with them, etc.

Are you OK with that?  After all, you "have nothing to hide", right?
