Please don't start with this, though you-know-who might be one of the reasons why many germans are so data protective today.

Yeah, I have found the petition - currently about 2300 votes. However I do not know how many are needed. But I do know that another petition about data security reached the predefined number of voters and will be, eventually, discussed in the Bundestag. I guess... The Piratenpartei has certainly it's eye on that petition.Ieldra2 wrote...
Found the article an hour ago or so. They use unusually strong language, which means they're not at all worried about being sued for calling Origin "spying software": A lawyer is quoted speaking of "extensive violations of data protection laws and consumer rights".ColorMeSuprised wrote...
But finally Spiegel-online, one of Germans more reputable information mags picked up on the story and even lawyers and judges deal with this problem since the EULA is clearly a violation of German laws and as one lawyer put it: One cannot abolish laws in the country of their customers.
Of course, EA refuses to answer to any questions.
There's also an initiative under way to ban BF3 in Germany for this.
All this hasn't gone to court yet, but at least here in Germany I guess we could actually file a suit against EA, demanding either damages or removal of the spying functions from the software.
Me too. Considering that TheOrigin.de is as of now collecting every evidence what Origin is scanning on your pc. There are even videos on youtube and TheOrigin.de's collection is not short.MDT1 wrote...
Also the german data protection authority is
occupied with this as the Origin EULA breakes german law in several
points. I'm curious how this will end.
Don't go there. Just ... don't. Please.Taciter wrote...

LOL. Did you read the sarcastic comment? Someone said perhaps Origin would make his tax declaration, in which case it would be worth the 50 Euros he paid for BF3.anzolino wrote...
For those who believe there is nothing to hide: Origin scans the complete tax program folder including all files!
Another user made a monitoring screenshot of scanning the "Sony Ericsson PC Suite" folder, including all files (phone calls, sms etc.).
And now, fanboys, tell me there are no private data and I'm paranoid. I want to play ME3 and not my tax bills on EA databases.

It's nice how we - in face of such evil - can still keep our humour alive.Ieldra2 wrote...

Don't be so paranoid - I have no time for apologists. The Anthem predates 'that' issue by two decades and should be a source of national pride.ColorMeSuprised wrote...

Germany has contributed a great deal to global development over the centuries and it's nice to see that their sense of moral certitude is still at the forefront of their legislative body.

I'm not apologizing and I'm proud of Germany but it's hard to differ when confronted by people from different countries. You won't believe what I have already heard from others when writing in multilingual threads. Guess I just misunderstood.

In this case, Germany is leading the way in reprimanding EA for its supreme arrogance and I hope it will inspire others to do the same.

Pretty sure you will need it in some way. Plus don't get too much hope to see it on Steam. I'm pretty sure EA will not put it there

Another Origin user found Origin in his telephone book backup, photoshop, calendar - but never inside his game folder. Now that's ironic: Link

I stated that Origin scans the ProgramData folder, among other things, but fails to look at the game registry keys, weeks ago, but as usual process monitor logs tend to be ignored, in favour of denial and wild assertions to the contrary.

Have you seen the pic? If it's not a fake (which I guess since my source is TheOrigin), then it doesn't leave that many explanations. Tomorrow we will probably (hopefully) even know what data they send. They are working on it.

I won't celebrate prematurely, it still has a way to go. I may consider passing on the information to the data protection agency or one of the HR and privacy advocacy groups in the UK for fun and seeing what happens. If it snowballs I will simply laugh my arse off.
If it doesn't well, it's a shame, but there are always other options available.
