hey just to prepare myself mentally, what program should I use for "sandboxing" ? Any preference in the gaming world?

The one called :"Don't buy any product requiring Origin".

If sales plummet they have to re-release the origin products without origin in order to survive as a company.

Besides, do you REALLY want to set up seperate virtual systems just in order to be able to play a game?

When you start having to protect your privacy through such means just to experience an entertainement product, chances are you would be far better off just experiencing entertainement products that didn't require such setups. It's not like the world is short of entertainement products to waste our time with, there's no need to put ourselves at risk in any way for it.

Oh dont't worry about that. Even with the question I asked, I'm not buying ANYTHING that requires me to install Origin :)

I started some threads on other gaming forums and so far I'm getting destroyed hehe. The majority of replies are: "you're ignorent/stupid/not intelligent", "I don't care if it's scan my PC", "old news, welcome to the world", Steam does it and many other programs too"...

That's a sad day...

If those are peoples replies to you, it's not you that is getting "destroyed". Their lack of self-protecting instincts are destroying themselves.

Sure, i'm not using this PC for private information anyway, and if you don't have anything of value to contribute then please for the community's sake, don't post at all.

It's not everyone who can affort not using their PC for personal data. I only have one PC at home and yep, it contains personal stuff, and games. So good if this thread doesn't harm you (if there is harm indeed) in any way, but this doesn't justify the method. Well that's my opinion.

Do you really think that this is about having something to hide?

My game computer has NOTHING else except maybe 10 games. I never done anything else with my game computer than play games. There is no single picture, document, email, web-history or anything at all. It's not even connected to internet. There is nothing what would be private except games and they save files. Other ways it's pure Windows installation.

Now, EA has no rights to look in my game computer even if there isn't anything. Because every persons computer is like they home, it's private property. We people have rights to have our privacy and security. That's what we are doing here, we are defending our rights. Because, if we let companies to do anything they want, they will do it. If you let others to do you something, then you have no legal ground complain it later. That's just stupid not to care your own security and privacy.

It's better to say now, we don't accept what you do and force company make they SPYWARE software voluntary option for players. If people don't like to be snoopped, they should have that choise to say "no thanks, I want my privacy".

BioWare said earlier that EA doesn't tell them what to do. If that's true then they should be able to say 'No EA, we will not not make Origin use mandatory to install and play ME3". Period. And honestly I don't even see the point to having this program. It won't stop piracy and I doubt it'll ever really compete with Steam, not if EA sticks to the current terms of use.

As much as I don't like Origin, I gotta ask this: what does Steam different to make it legal for them to take info from your computer?

There's nothing suspicious in my wallet - nothing to hide. That doesn't mean you can just yank it out of my pocket and check it to make sure.

It's not what's on your PC, or whether they'll be able to find anything - it's a matter of principle.

Agreed.  Anyone that doesn't care they are knowingly installing spyware onto their PC either already works for EA :P or is likely too young to understand the importance of privacy anyway.

Personally I find it more interesting there are folks surprised by all this.  This is EA we are talking about afterall, no game they make would ever have tempted me to install Origin my PC.  Even before all this.

I'm interested in that too. When you had a non-steam game, Steam provides you a list of .exe you can choose from. How does it gather the list? Some people says that Steam is doing exactly the same thing as Origin, I can't confirm. Anybody has that knowledge?

I don't know much about steam client as I would never install that kind of spyware in my computer. But I think the different is that steam player can say no to steams data collection (optional), while client still scans the computer for sertain game related stuff.  That's my assumption. Maybe someone who knows better can tell more. I also assume that if you allow the data collection, there isn't much different to origin client.

Well I had Steam installed when Valve made Portal temporarily free, but I always made sure only ran if I wanted to. I eventually removed it. Unfortanutely, it seems I need to install it again once LotR: War in the North comes out since it requires Steam activation.

I've heard people say Steam only collects info doing surveys on occasion, but you can opt out of them. However I've heard other people say Steam collects info regardless.

I've no love for Steam either, but I like Valve a wee bit more than EA since Valve tries to help the indies and stuff, but I find it retarded to install Steam in order to play a game on my computer.

EA doesn't tell them how to make the game. Bioware has no say in how said game is distributed.

 Man, people are so drones...

Look at a reply on Gamespot:

"I am going to file this under I DONT CARE.Really, BF3/Origin could have come with HIV or the HerpaDerps and I still would have bought it."

I think I'm gonna ignore forums on that topic and just stick with my opinion on the matter (not buying). It makes me really sad that some people are that inconscious. Some people don't even have arguments other than: I just want to play the game, I don't care how. You can't argue with those and not convince them of anything even if EA would admit the worst of things (an example).

Sad generation.

EA accused of manipulating game scores

Battlefield 3 is looking pretty hot, but that may not be enough for Electronic Arts
in Norway, where the company appears to be showing some reluctance to
let the game stand on its own merits. Why Norway? I have no idea, but
apparently if you're a member of the Norwegian media and you want an
advance copy of Battlefield 3 for review, you're going to have to answer a few questions first.

Old news, however I didn't know about that.

I admit my knowledge of making games is extremely limited, but I imagine it's BioWare who builds the installer for ME3's pc version. To the best of my knowledge BioWare can decide to make sure this installer works without needing Origin.

Bioware does the (game) coding, but in this case EA is making the decission related Orgins. I'm sure Biowares opinion does matter too, but Bioware is part of EA too. Origin is EA's product.

If you honestly think your PC is safe from anyone or anything, you are sorely mistaken.  There is no privacy on the internet.  NONE.

What are you people going to do when they stop making discs and you can only download a game?  It's coming in the near future whether you like it or not.
