Here is the new Version of the EULA, compared with the old version. It's German, but I do think the red speaks for itselt. However, eventhough the new EULA is shorter than the older one, the critical passages are still there, just phrased differently.

Just checking the differences

Good!!! We can celebrate that small victory, but we didn't win the war. Ready for round 2 :)

Ok, I wanted to see for myself if Origin is or will be required for Mass Effect 3.

So. I went to masseffect.bioware.com and followed the links to the 5 available pre-order shops.

I ignored Best Buy because it doesn't offer the PC version (you should too). And I had to put up with some bad UI design on Gamestop because the link I followed there directed me only to the Xbox version... But nevermind that.

First, none of those 5 mentions in any way, shape or form Origin as a requirement. Not even the Origin store. True, the Steam store doesn't list Steam as a requirement either but it still is. This may also be (and I'm guessing it is) true for Origin, personally I found nothing in that broken Origin Help Center to confirm it. The Origin store page has a legal disclaimer at the bottom, written in all caps, and it's the standard EA disclaimer regarding serial codes and EA Online account requirement. EA Online account that will soon be a Origin account, but that doesn't necessarily meen the Origin software is requiered. At least, if you buy the game from somewhere else.

Second, I'm from continental Europe. So, the Origin store page for Mass Effect 3 has this at the bottom:"Origin International has moved to www.originintl.com, and is not affiliated with the EA Store or Origin." That link redirects me to originweb.originintl.com/index.htm , which is not an Origin store for non-americans. Actually, I can't believe EA still has this devide that existed since the infamous EA Store.

EA has had a very bad year in retail in my country. I had to wait three months for Dead Space2, and when it came it didn't have the codes for the DA2 bonus content (it was too late any way). I still can't find Portal 2 (PC) in a store(EA handled the retail distribution of this game). And a few month after they announce that the retail market is such a big problem for them, they reveal Origin...

Well, my stance is the same. If the Origin software will be a requirement for Mass Effect 3, I will not buy the game. And we'll find that out in january 2012, when the demo comes.

The joys of the console. No need for intrusive software such as Origin.Posted Image

Yeah it just tracks your playtime, save game data and etc.  No need to be worried.

Media Markt warns customer of EULA! Strike!

Media Markt is one of the biggest stores for electronic/technology in Germany.

I just cant understand why Bioware doesn't have an opinion about Origin. They should realise that they will loose quite a few customers if they force us to use Origin.

I'm fairly certain they have an opinion...it's just not something we're likely to see presented here. They'll give us the Facts when they can, but they really aren't too free to give opinions on their Parent Company's bone-head desicions...one could lose a great job doing that.

How about they give us the choice of buying the disks and installing the game and running the game as a real piece of software, without the need for BS like Origins OR Steam.

Germans alone cannot win this war. Others have to help too!

I really don't see how they can get away with sort of thing. It would be like a clothing shop insisting that they have full access to your wardrobe and it's contents whenever you wear one of their products.

I'm sure that it's breaching some form of product/customer code somewhere, and I seriously dount that the Mass Effect 3 box case would say that you require to give EA access to your information in order to play the game, but that's pretty much the truth (for the PC version anyway)

Statement from EA Germany regarding Origin

Well, this does indeed look quite a bit different. They explicitly say they'll collect no data which have no connection to the application (meaning Origin). There is no agreement any more to collect data from anywhere on your computer. No mention of giving data to third parties as well. I haven't analyzed every detail, and it still has one or two things possibly null and void under German law, but not in the part about data collection. Mostly it looks acceptable. Not too different from Steam if I recall things correctly.

Now they need to correct the license agreement for the other countries as well.

Does that mean you consider data harvesting as being copy protection? :innocent:

That would be an easy way for pirates to do their thing, so it's not going to happen.
