Clarification for an uniformed one would be cool.

Thanks guys appreciate the help. Hopefully someone is kind enough to give me the low-down later in the day, although I doubt anyone is :(.

This is a PC only issue and shouldn't have an impact on the 360 or PS3.  Origin was created when EA rebranded their download manager and merged it with their store and replaced both.  It should tell you that its installing and will be installed as a seperate program and unless someone changed the settings, there should be an active icon in your system tray when its actually running.

I hope that helps.

Thank you very much, I've checked and I do have EA games and just today downloaded the latest patch for one of them. I don't see any icon that says origin and haven't (and won't if it's to download origin) download the latest version of the download manager. So I guess I'm in the clear (and no it's not because I have anything illegal, it's because I don't like my personal information not being personal).

Even after all this i bet 80% of us from this thread will still buy, no one is going to miss mass effect 3 after investing hundreds of hours into different characters, thats the problem people will still buy.

Looking forward to the faq from priestly though i hope in my heart alot of the devolopers are trying to push how much it sucks.

Well, then I'm glad to be able to say, that I am among those 20%.

Why on earth should a game, A GAME, which is meant to make fun in my leisure time mess with my principles and that I DO care for my privacy. Seriously -> LMAO

It's a game, nothing more! It may be a very good one - granted - but I rather leave the soap on the floor.

Dillema!

Pick it up and receive punishment from behind, or let it lie and risk stepping and slipping on it...

Unless you have purchased Battlefield 3 I don't think any EA program will install Origin, you would have to go to the Origin website and download it yourself. I am guessing that if you use the EA downloader to install a game you will be prompted to "upgrade" to Origin, for I don't think the EA downloader or store exist anymore.

That would require me to accept the new terms though.

Well, you're not bound by the EULA anymore once you've removed the software, so it's a very transitory acceptance.

You're never bound by the EULA.  It's not a legal contract.  There's no signature, no proof of acceptance, etc.

I think I finally figured out a solution for my personal dilema for Origin, if its required I am going to get Mass Effect 3 for the xbox. I think that sends the message I want, I am interested in BioWare games, but I am not interested in Origin, but I don't punish myself for a game that I been looking forward to.

edit: spelling.

I think it still matters on xbox ? Dont you have to accept origin eula for bf3/bf3 beta ? I think i remember reading that thats even worse as it allows them to scan connected devices to xbox too, think this might of changed though as it was a while ago like at the very start of when origin privacy issues came up, might have taken it out.

Id buy it on the xbox too, but it just wouldent feel the same for me on the console with a controller. Plus having no saves at all.

Origin is sh*t, guys, everybody knows it. This spyware program will really hurt EA more than piracy could ever do, and beside (at least here in Germany) what they do is illegal. Huge image loss. I myself know about 10 persons that wanted to buy BF3 and now save the money for COD8. You support the enemy, EA.

I bought BF3 on release day, installed Origin and unfortunatly heard of all that too late - The program could search my computer for about two days.
But if you don't want to miss BF3 (it's really a great game) or, even worse, Mass Effect 3 on PC - the solution is "sandboxie".
This program lets you set the folders where origin can search for data and lock up others. There are dozens of tutorials for the how to online. Works perfectly for me and will hopefully work when I get ME3.

That's probably going to be my only option.  I'm not going to buy the game until I specifically read that Origin can be successfully "sandboxed" and that ME3 will run fine with it in that condition, or until EA completely removes any requirement for Origin to be installed.

At this point, with Origin on top of other worries about the game because of multiplayer being crammed in, rumored aspects of the story and design, and other issues, I'll probably be buying ME3 either sometime late next year, or NEVER.

I read somewhere that some retailers accepted bf3 to be returned opened and with used keys, because of the Origin furor. Might be worth checking out if the one you got yours from does.

I'll have to say goodbye to my Shep on the PC and get on with a fresh Shep on the PS3 if the Origin-client is required :-(

Personally, I'm not buying a console to play one game.

Wooow, for Mass Effect, I would. But like I pointed out, there are better options. Sandboxing works, I controled origin with process manager. It can't search for files it doesn't need anymore.

On the off chance that you're not just trolling... don't presume the rest of us are afflicted with that sort of weak-mindedness.

For those truly worried about Origin but still have their heart set on playing ME3, you could still buy ME3... just do a clean hard drive format first, install E3 and nothing else... use your PC for a few weeks only to play ME3... then when you're done uninstall Origin and go ahead and reinstall everything you were concerned with EA knowing you had.

Bit extreme but it's a solution. Not something I'd do personally though.

I'm just stating a fact. Almost all people here will do this...
.
btw not buying a game based on "principles" make you feel strong minded? Willful? Well... I guess I can't blame you.

Discarding your value of privacy and rights for something as silly as a mere entertainement product and doing this KNOWINGLY is beyond words that could only be seen as an insult if said.

There's plenty of entertainement available in this world that doesn't require me to give up my rights.

I'm more worried how many young people are getting groomed by the big corporations into not only accepting such things, but even doing it for things a majority of them will only actively spend time on for a couple of days or a week at best before moving on to the next product.

It really is slow decay of peoples awareness of their rights :(

im with you on that. i always play games on the pc. M&K are the way to play.
if you can really sandbox origin that its like steam, this sounds already better. i just hope that things will change till march, otherwise it will be a very sad day for me to say goodbye to ME3. :(

I won´t buy a console only to play games. I own a PC that i use for everything, including gaming. I already refuse to buy steam games (because the program annoys me), so if this origin spyware is enforced on us PC gamers, then EA-BIOWARE won´t get any money from me.

Mate, you hit the nail on the head!

It's just interesting to see how actually companies realize the value of this information to gain extra profit from that but so many customers (to exaggerate a bit call them blind, deaf sheep) lack the understanding for it.
