It does that sometimes if a mod has edited a post.

After EA Germany's statement, English press is finally starting to report on this. Articles already up on Eurogamer, N4G, Regator, VG247 and others. It's gonna spread everywhere now.
Yeah, I tipped IGN few minutes ago. I didn't state my personal opinion, just gave then links of gaming magazines on the subject. Oh not to mention 66 700+ Facebook users liking a Facebook page about privacy and cyber security. Again there, no personal opinion involved, just links.

It better does.
Hope America catches up on those soon.

The one German article mentioned that Origin snooped in on somebody's tax information....all sorts of good private info can be obtained from that. To have the power to know everything and anything on my PC....and be able to give it to third parties.....crazy. Anyone ok with that is crazy

Origin will NEVER be able to scan and analyze data from me. I have zero tolerance of such ridiculous violation to privacy and I condemn EA for even thinking they could try to do this nonsense to anybody.

If not on a personal computer, where else would you store such things? Your mobile phone? Oh wait... EULA stated they wanted to scan that too in case you hooked it up to your pc to transfer some files... Um... I'm out of options of where to keep it then... Unless you think people store electronically received data purely as paperback copies, ofc.
My goverment stopped sending out hardcopies of tax reports. It's all electronic now.

BioWare; I know you have no real say in this matter, but take a message to your EA overlords. We want to buy your games. We really do. Would you kindly stop doing everything in your power to make us stop buying your games and grabbing it of a torrent instead?
We al know Origin is as likely to stop piracy as a bloody disc check anyway. For Ao's sake; just the name Origin is offensive. Let alone the EULA attached to it.

I'm from the states and no I value my privacy very much. However while I may not like what Origin does it is essentially the same thing as steam which I use frequently. THe only difference is it gives you an opt out function. Hopefully EA will do the same but they are not taking sensitive data here only data on what you play that's it. Who cares if they find out what I play?Ford_Prefect wrote...

Which is why I fear for the ME franchise if Origin is required. No I'm not a fan of it however I will not boycott either ME 3 or Battlefield 3 because of it.shep82 wrote...

I don't get what the big deal is. I have read the eula's and while I don;t agree with some of it I have nothing to hide and I use steam anyway and never opted out. It is the same damn thing and I could care less.
Hi shep82,
it appears to me, that unfortunately you seem to have grown up in an environment in which the enormous value of your privacy played no important role and the people were not made aware of it's importance. It's similar to freedom; if you have it, it's great, but if you lost it, it's going to be tough to gain it back. I don't know what country you are from, but in regard to privacy let me just take the USA's Patriot Act as an example to point out what I mean when I mention the tremendous errosion of civil rights and loss of privacy.
Here is something for you, that might shed some light on the matter:
Why Privacy Matters Even if You Have 'Nothing to Hide'

Oh, for heaven sake, please check the process monitor logs. They are not the same, they do not scan the same things.
Steam is intrusive and I don't advocate for it, but it has some vague notion of limits and has the opt out clause. Origin has no opt out clause and proceedes in what is the equivalent of a shotgun approach to scanning. The whole DataProgram folder among other things, yet ignores game registry keys from EA, and will scan even miscellaneous items and Icon files.
Half the items the program scans have got to be pointless, it seems very sloppy in its approach unless it intends to send the data back on a rolling basis, which it could, the sheer volume of data is insane.

I have checked and so what if it scans my icons? What the hell could that tell them? I think it's a dumb idea but it's not like it's scanning my checking account info.billy the squid wrote...

I did a thesis in college on cybersecurity. The government has very stringent requirements on restricting access to computers in a hospital. I posed a question to my class, "What is the fastest way to hack into a hospital's computer system?"
Answer: Flip over the Nurse's nametag. The password will very likely be on the back of it on a piece of tape.
In short: You'd be amazed at how often people store incredibly important data in places it shouldn't be.

Either that or their password is so insecure it might as well not be there at all.
