Protip: I have already had Origin on my computer before and monitored its activity, and did not notice or obtain any log that produced the results that some German gamers are claiming to have obtained. I have never illegally obtained a video game in my life, which I would be willing to undergo any sort of valid test in a court of law to verify.Arcian wrote...
EDIT: This whole controversy is overblown. The only reason why you peasants are getting your panties in a twist over this is because you don't want anything to infringe on your ability to download things illegally. The concept of a company who can access your information is scary, but there's just so many legal barriers to what EA can do with your information that it's essentially worthless beyond getting you to stop pirating their games.
And the end result that EA is attempting to achieve with Origin has already failed. Messing with the "peasants" gets the lord's head chopped off if they are galvanized to act. See the BF3 crack for an excellent example of this.

It's just as some other guy said, why the **** should I really care if EA knows what hardware I am using and whom do my Shepards and Hawkes bang in my playthroughs? For all I care, it is actually GOOD for me in the long run, because it allows EA and their studios to adjust future games according to what I like and identify and fix hardware related issues faster.
Your pitiful threats won't really phase EA, woohoo whole like 3% (and that is a huge exaggeration) of the potential customers won't buy a game because of Origin, big whoop! The data they gather from the rest will save them megabucks on QA and development of future successful games.
And btw... **** people who download software illegally! If there was no such ****, we would not need to pay such astronomic prices for our software to begin with.

A better example would have been Ubisofts sharp decline in pc sales when they tried the 'always online' stuff for singleplayer games. A 90% decline in Pc-sales without a lift in console sales is a clear indication when you go wrong at pissing off your consumers. Ofc, Ubisoft too seem to refuse to admit error. It seems to be a common problem in big companies. People would rather the deny issues out of fear from loosing their bonuses (or worse) than admit errors in judgement.

You might care when you get rejected at a work application because the company buys info on their prospective employees and figured they didn't want somebody spending x amount of hours per day on games in their staff...
Just to give a random example...

Besides, if you are buying software legally and/or using Facebook/Twitter/Skype/Google/Yahoo/MSN/Whatever, if you are opening your browser, running antivirus and another 10k other programs and services, then you already are sending such an immence amount of data on yourself and your habits, that this whole fuss over Origin does not even matter, it's like one more to the pile really.

i think they're* hoping to replace their single player customers with multi-player customers. Starcraft 2 from blizzard was so successfull mainly because of the huge korean fanbase propping it up thanks to the first game, and it always had a multi-player. with Diablo 3 they're banking on the real money auction house to bring in the bucks, and people who dislike online gaming are left in the dark and told the STFU.
*=Edit: EA is hoping this i mean, my loyalty to bioware is unchanged. it's companies like EA that make me wish i was a multi-billionaire so i could go to companies like BW and force feed them cash until they explode more awesome games i mean give them all the funding they need to achieve their dreams in the art of gaming....

You are paranoid.
Lol. Not at all. companies want 'the best' people for their jobs. Getting info on work applicants is just 'common sense'.
Ofc it depends somewhat on what kind of job you are seeking how big an impact it will have. The business hiring might not care alot about buying info on cashiers in a McDonalds, for example (although I could be wrong, ofc), while applying as a cashier in a bank might involve slightly more interest in your background...

You can only change a game so much before it loses it's appeal, and becomes just another sequel.
That said, don't stop improving. Just be careful what direction you steer franchises in.

I have Origin installed and yet apparently you do not know I am 26. See? Not all is lost.
You are really naïve if you think others don't have that info already. You pc's are swimming in all kinds of spyware, beginning with OS/core stuff and ending with such crap like achievements in games. There is no point making fuss over this, since all your data is readily available as is to the people willing to pay.

100% false. Their are browser addons that prevent this 100%. Which
is why firefox is faster and more secure than all the other browsers.
Firewalls, do the same thing for applications, as do other programs.
You can secure your computer easily enough. Only a complete moron would allow what you said.

Do you really believe that if piracy dropped over night to Zero that EA would pass those saving to us? They wouldn't they would bank the extra money.
For example, British Gas an energy company disclosed record profits, while elderly people have frozen to death in their own homes in winter because they keep putting the price of gas up and these pensioner cant affort to heat their homes.

Reality is simple - I could not care less about this stuff, because by the time any sort of such superficious background check becomes relevant to me, I sure as hell won't be spending any eye-widening amount of time playing games.

You dont seem to care what Origin does but why do you care that we do, If its not required to play ME3 its not going to bother you, but it will bother the **** out of a good deal of people. Like ive stated on this thread before Ive seen 2 poll so far about Origin and nearly 90% of people dont want it. Also the majority of people in this Origin thread and the last ( over 130 pages combind ) dont want it either.
PS congrats with the marrage mate

I don't bother about things I can't realistically prevent anyway, I am sure that everyone who gives enough damn to actually dig info on me will have it anyway and I am sure as hell not going to to fake identities, use Linux and lead some sort of reclusive life, just to make some potential paranoid employer refuse me because I, let's say played ME3 more than he likes instead of just refusing me because he could not get that info.
I mean, in the end you got refused anyway so what the **** is the whole difference to begin with?
My god... You people make me laugh... Stop posting! The Alien Robotic Communist Unicorns from Andromeda are watching your every step from Origin and Bioware forums. The truth is out there!
