So like, has it been confirmed that Origin will be required to play ME3 or not? Cause I don't want to brouse this whole thread. One of the screenshots from the beta leak suggests it is.

More than likely it will be it is not on Steam, as EA wants to generate as much income for its platform as possible digitally. And it reamins unlikely that EA would allow the system to be circumvented by not including it the retail version. It did the same with BF3. The extent to which Origin is to be implemented ie: constant connection or single activation via Origin only. It doesn't affect the scanning or the data collection issue which I don't believe has changed.

Hey people, have you seen this post ME3 in one disc?!?

I've read this piece of new that appears on that post this morning but I forgot to post about (www.meristation.com/v3/des_noticia.php)
Well in there they also states the following:
El primer dato y más importante para los jugadores es que el juego, que funcionará con Origin, solo requerirá una activación online.

OK, I'll translate from spanish
The first and most important information for the gamers is that the game, which will run with Origin, only will requiere a single online activation

So yet again, we hear that you must have an internet connection and Origin to even play it?

Well, let's look at the bright side of all this mess: ME3 is announced for 03/2012. That's plenty of time to make even more people aware of Origin being forced upon potential EA customers and what the software is more than likely capable of, unless proven that it isn't so. Same goes for parts of the EULA.

Chris Priestly said on page 41 of this thread regarding when this decision would be made that

"No estimate yet, but it is in progress. Since you can cancel up to day of launch, this does give a little buffer.",

followed by

"There is no problem with linking to an article on the Escapist. If you want to link to it, please go ahead."

on page 54 and  his last comment on page 57

"Well, I've already said we are looking at this. I've already posted here, so we're obviously looking at it. I am teh guy who'll get your email, so we'll still be looking at it. It doesn't hurt to send it twice, but it is a tad redundant. Still, if it makes you feel better, there is no problem in sending emails as well as voicing your opinion here.
"

So yes, of course and without any doubt they are aware of our concerns. Now one thing that could be tried is to make the the other party, the customers, aware of it if they were not that fortunate in this regard to have had it on the tv news and the big newspapers like in some other countries in Europe.

That's a few months time, not bad imho. And as they don't even mind the linking of some articles that speak of Origin in a critical manner, why not provide links to potentially interested folks on other websites that do have a large community, functioning well as a multiplier to spread this knowledge.

Links like this maybe http://www.overclock...ge-germany.html as a) it's in english and B) it's from the country where the outcry and media attention has been the largest as far as I know and also in that country EA will have to answer questions regarding the repeatedly mentioned privacy issues.

I would like to know if it's just a one off check with Origin, can I then uninstall Origin and keep playing? Or will I have to keep Origin installed? If it's the latter I will have to seriously consider not buying it(and I really want to buy it).

If origin is required I'm afraid it'll be the latter and the ME3 launcher will actually work through Origin. Well at least until those guys from razor create a crack that lets you play without Origin, like they did for BF3... Fingers crossed.

Ah well thats sucks. I have time to um and ahh about it I guess.

It so true though that these things made to combat piracy do nothing of the sort. People start pirating just so they dont have to deal with the anti piracy measures. Tis crazy!

Good point as in the UK we are bound by the EU privacy laws. Which means EA will have to tell us that Origin is being installed and ask us then if we want to continue.
I for one will not buy the game until a crack has been found and I only do this because I do not agree with Origin.

I do so hate repeating myself.

Internet connection is only required for the initial verification of the game, just like ME2 required an initial verification. Once thats done, you can disable the login and still play the game.

Origin still seems to be an installation requirement however. Once installed, according to smoe reports, you can then uninstall Origin. Dont get confuised between logging into an Origin account (which is the account you log onto these forums with), and the Origin software.

Well, it works just fine with pre-Origin games (DAO, DA2, ME, ME2, etc.).  I'm guessing it'll work just fine with ME3 too, but EA is counting on people thinking they have to keep it around.

You can bet your glutious maximus the firs thing I will be doing is trying to find a way to install it without Origin being installed as well. If I cant, then it will remain in its box until our friends who fly the Jolly Roger have worked out a way to do it.

I feel I have to correct you there. ME2 itself did not require any online verification (at least not the retail version). Only the DLC had to be avtivated online.

I my opinion situation looks little funny and stupid. Let see...

I buy ME3 gamebox from shop. Then I install the game to my computer, but it doesn't work because I also have to install Origin. So, I install the Origin and do the games DRM check by using Origin software for it. Then I uninstall the Origin because the software is now 100% useless, because it has done allready the one thing I needed, make the game work..

So, what's the point to install totally seperated software just to get game running?

Now if EA/Bioware think we use the Origin software for other services. I don't see any problem with it, but it should be players CHOISE. Because who says I want to use they other services. I allready have all the tools to get files from internet and so on. I don't need some companies private control/spyware softwares in my computers.

Point been, if someone wants to use origin to game control, that's they choise. But if people doesn't want this hand holding, they should have that choise too. Meaning, Origin client should not be forced for player, it should be voluntary choise for those who wants it.

I have been entertaining myself with an idea that you could install origin to an external HD with windows XP in it and running your computer for as long as it is need, letting origin contact inertet once and then unplug HD.

I would rather have an unpatched game, than allow Origin to snoop around on my system.

I have BF3 with Origin installed. Origin does not do anything with patches, it all goes through battlelog. Could be because there hasn't been a "real" patch yet, only server updates.

What bothers me is EA not giving me the choice with BF3, I have to install Origin. I think it's pretty bad that even several ME fans on this forum think about using "hurr hurr" stuff on a game they really care about. It indicates that people don't want Origin forced upon them. And I completely agree, I hate using it, simply because I didn't have a choice with BF3.

Yep the stupid thing is only those of us who bother to get our games legally get hassled by this. So while we stress and worry about what Origin will be doing to our PC's and have to jump through hoops just to play our games, pirates will be playing away happy and care free. It's like punching your customers in the face as they buy your products.

More than likely. Why tie us to a system if they aren't going to really screw us over.

Not to mention tat if theres anything dodgy abuot the files, your AV/Firewall will more likely detect it. EA will probably bribe their wway into getting Origin registered with the Internet Security firms as a "trusted application".  <_<
