The concept of a "battleship" existed long before the HMS Dreadnought was launched - the name itself is just an evolution from "ship of the line", which was short for "ship of the line of battle" or "line of battle ship". In all cases it simply refers to the large warships that are intended to form the primary battle force of a fleet.

What the qunari call "dreadnoughts" are likely just another name for what the Royal Navy and USN would have called a "first rate" or more informally "super first rate" ship of the line.

Quanari dreadnought must be BIG wooden, dangerous thing with a lot of cannons, something similar like this:

sweden battleship Vasa, early 1600s

But hopefully capable of going more than 2km without sinking.

So another historian, then? Good :D In this specific vessel were TOO much cannon, unfortunately  xD I choosed ship right after medieval age, cause Quanari are technologicaly more advanced than rest of Thedas.

This is perhaps better example, from 1700s :)
