Possible ME1 and ME2 Ultra Hi-Res Texture Packs!
#1
Posté 13 octobre 2011 - 02:24
I've been chatting with a few of the BioWare staff about the possibility of ultra hi-res texture packs for Mass Effect 1 and 2. It would be quite a task for the devs to release such a thing, due to the way assets are packaged in cache files. However, they are going to mention the idea to the devs and find out if it is a feasable possibility.
Before anyone posts about it, I know there are TexMod ways to inport custom hi-res textures. What we're asking for is the original texture files created by the BioWare artists and some official way to replace the textures (whether that be through a massive patch or an official BioWare-released TexMod-like utility).
So, post here (or in the thread linked below) if you're interested! Let's show the staff that this is something we'd really want, and that it would be worth their while to put something like this together!
Thanks, and have a great day!

For all the systems though, or ONLY PC. It wouldn't be fair for one console to get it and the other to not get it.

It's not a matter of fairnes, it's a matter of what Xbox/PS3 can handle.
PC's are constantly evolving and becoming more powerful.
For instance, my PC, which is NOT state of the art(thought it is firmly in the High-end, power wise), is drastically more powerful than the Xbox 360.
Xbox simply can't handle Ultra Hi-Res, that's the only reason consoles don't get the extra graphical love; because they can't, hardware-wise.

But sure, they should be able to get it if Bioware is willing to do this for them. That'd be awesome. I've browsed some of the high-res packs for PC players before and they're stunning.

Battlefield 3's second disc on 360includes an installable High-Res texture pack so if you install both discs, you can run it on 360 with High-Res textures in places. That said, I can't say how high. But maybe they could release a Mass Effect 1 & 2 collection just before ME3 with the new textures on board, especially for players who install.

I'll be building my own PC before Christmas comes around though, and I definetly approve.

I've
got me a laptop: Asus G74sx-BBK7. It can run BF3 on high, so I should
be good.
And it's official. Eight gen consoles need to come
out. Like now.
If we're at the point where we are getting inferior
content because of console restrictions, then we need new consoles.
Come on Microsoft/Sony. Start throwing us a bone here. I don't want
to wait til next e3 for the announcements.

My weak ass laptop has enough trouble as it is running ME1/2 on the maximum (yet comparitvely low) settings.

The fact that your laptop can actually manage to pull that off is pretty impressive imo. Mine can't even run ME1 and I bought it less than two years ago. For only 500, granted, but still.

Was it a gaming Laptop? If it wasn't then it probably wouldn't because of the graphics card.

ATI 5650, 1.7GHz Quaddie. Lacks processing power but I can JUST manage a 40FPS if I keep the resolution down. Athough I have a 1100$ PC ready to go on Newegg.ca, and it will pack a punch.

Nope, and that's exactly why. We simply couldn't afford one. It's a shame too because every other system requirement for both ME1 and ME2 meets and exceeds not only the minimum but even the recommended specs. But the integrated chip kills all capabilities.
