Just dl'd a mod which improved the textures for all squadmates massively; as a comparison, here's a Tali before and after:

Image IPB

Now if there was a way to apply that to the entire of ME1 and ME2, dayum.

@alex90c: This is exactly the type of thing we are hoping to get from BioWare, officially. It looks so much better!

Bioware probably won't make a lot of money if they release a high-res patch for ME1 and 2 (or at least ME1), which they would do rather than make some utility like texmod. They will probably do a remake on ME1 for the next-gen consoles AND PC (like Halo 1, which I don't think will be for next-gen consoles though) and then sell it like a new game or something.

ME1 Anniversary like Halos and I think this high res should be in ME3, just saying.

Where'd you get the mod, I'll bite.

This is commander Shepard and this is my favourite idea on the BSN.

I never understood why they didn't do this from the start with the pc.

Neither do I. I don't know why they included the crappy textures for PC version. Some of 'em are really, really low resolution textures. I would like BioWare to go further than just higher quality textures, tessellation and other improvements would be nice.

And something for the AMD vs. NVIDIA talk. With NVIDIA GPU you can force ambient occlusion in Mass Effect 1.

Half Life: Source?

Granted, that didn't improve much of anything except maybe the water. :)

I didn't really notice on squadmates actually, they're reasonably high quality compared to say, a volus.I don't really mind blurry textures so much, in fact in old games I found sharp textures look more like a photo pasted on. I also appreciate shorter loading. But the volus' situation is quite ridiculous when they can't even have a straight line down his head without bloody breaking up. The jaggies make the mouthpiece just as much of an eyesore.

I'd certainly love to see ultra high resolution textures, especially for ME1 (particularly if it also happened to fix Garrus's facial textures, since his are always set to minimum as of the latest patch for PC).

Thanks Koomazaz, for pursuing this possibility with BioWare. I hope they decide that it is indeed feasible.

In ME2 loading time are artificially made longer. In reality they loading would be almost instant depending on how fast your hard drive is. You are forced to watch long loading video without any real reason (unless you rename or delete all loading videos). I wonder what was the point behind that...

@alex90 - thanks for the heads up about the hi-res mod.

@tup3xi - I remember reading a few months ago in a thread on the ME2 General boards about that very same thing (loading screens and time) and as I remember the reason for the long time was to make both the console and PC version identical that way, irregardless of the PC not needing such artificial video/times.

Well I think they wanted to make sure we finished watching their "cool" loading screens. ME1 elevators/airlock were wicked and might have been worth the wait, but no thanks on holographic elevator diagrams.

maybe the high res version will be included in the trilogy box set, along with directors alterations and commentaries. ;)

Trilogy Boxset wont happen unless EA gets full rights to ME1 from Microsoft, which wont happen because Microsoft wants to keep ME1 off Sony Consoles.
