I wouldn't own a copy of DA 2 unless Bioware paid me to play it. That's just me though. DA 2 was rushed and hugely simplified. I don't like playing someone else's character unless that character is rather developed and interests me. Hawke was a boring husk which I couldn't add enough personality to or diversity to in story options to become interesting. Also, I prefer greater class options and story choices. DA:O had limitations enough but DA 2 multiplied those limitations by about a factor of ten and then donned the sheep's clothing of "streamlining" and "innovation" then called the result "polarizing." I would suggest going elsewhere OP if you want a solid RPG with a story, gameplay or customization. DA 2 is just a bland experience to me, but then again it's just my experience so make your own decisions!

I owned both DA2 and the DLCs. I believe it is worth getting. I enjoyed playing Hawke. Have at least six playthroughs and working on more. I have been playing CRPGs for a long time. The streamlining did not bother me. It simply remove many of the throwback D & D mechanics that in my opinion made no sense. I have seen the progression of CRPGs from Akalabeth to Morrowind to DA2. All of them had their faults.
Most of them relied to heavily on the D & D mechanics. (Which is understandable with Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale. Since they are set in the Forgotten Realms world).
Dragon Age and Vampire:(Masquerade and Bloodlines) at least get somewhat away from the dependence on D & D.

Okay lets stop pyramid quoting. It WILL get you in trouble with a mod.

Also lets stop talking about our OPINIONs which are SUBJECTIVE as if they are pure cast iron fact, mmkay? Cos surprisingly enough they aren't fact at all.

If you cant communicate in a respectful manner, the thread will get locked. And I would rather that the forum didnt descend to Dark Lord Potter and 4chan forums type of place.

Seeing how trolls never get into trouble in the first place Im trying something different with them. I am fully aware and acknowledge my opinions such as they are, opinions and subjective.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA Nope. Buy it, ONLY IF you wanna cry in frustration at BioWare's cheapness with this sequel.

Save the disappointment, wait for Dragon Age 3

Just don't go into it expecting it to be DA:O, and you'll be fine. It's definitely worth $15.

And Versago? Please stop posting. It makes those of us who enjoyed DA2 look bad. Post objectively or not at all

It's really not as bad as some posters would have you believe. I just finished my first playthrough and as someone who has played every Bioware game since BG I'd still say it's a very solid effort. It's by no means their best but it's a good game. I believe it's better than the original but I understand I am the minority in having that opinion so you probably shouldn't expect to like it that much.

Disregard what the above two posters said. They're just butt hurt DA II is better than Origins.

Why would I be butthurt about a game I paid 60$ being better than one that i paid 60$ for?

"This game is AWESOME. GOD DAMNIITIRJEINKWAESFKDASN!!!"

If you love a deep engaging story, deep Rpg elements such as customisation, a button tied to awesome, hard but very tactical combat that is just as deep as the rpg elements, brilliant graphics and unique vistas that put Mass Effect 2 to shame then bad news for you! This game has none of what i posted above. DA2 Isnt bad but isnt good, the lore, characters, voice acting and banter are the highlights, better than Origins in my opinion.

If you want to play the best fantasy RPG, and the second best game, in the world then DA II is for you.

If you were to have asked me "Is DAII worth getting?" immediately after DA2 came out, I would have said "It's alright but I wouldn't reccommend it".

Now, after a few patches some item-packs and two top-quality story-driven DLC? DAII is definitely worth getting. It's still a little rough around the edges, but definitely worth it.

Dragon Age Origins was brilliant. But its DLC didn't *really* improve the game.

DA2 started out mediocore (compared to DA: Origins) but its DLC has *vastly* improved the overall game.

That would actually be one of the worst RPG games in the year, from bioware, and from the RPG genere altogether.

The only real issues I have with DA 2 are the change in art direction and the recycled maps. DLC has addressed the recycled map issue. Overall while it is not as good as DAO I will say DA 2 is still a pretty good game. Not a great game but a good one. Despite what the hyperreactive negative nancy hater and complainer trolls say DA 2 does deserve about a 7/10.

Despite what the hyperactive buttkisser and delusional fanboyz say, DA 2 deserves about a 5/10.  Recycled maps, stupid wave combat and a meh story is not good.  It's average at best, below average if you're being fair; the map thing is pathetic..and if you're viewing it against prior Bioware games...5/10 is charitable.

well I like the mass effect games, thought I kinda prefer ME1 to ME2. DA:O was good too, I really enjoyed it. I like to play rpg's and fps's mostly. I play starcraft 2 now and then but i'm not competitive or anything.

It's not like any of those games. Dragon Age 2 is about as steep a decline in quality as I've ever seen. It is a poor, poor game. The story telling is bad on the most basic level--like if a character close to your character dies, he will respond with a sad voice in one line and then be jovial and happy in the next like nothing has happened at all. The combat is boring, the quests are all very similar and the landscapes are recycled. They're not just recycled in terms of how they look, they are the exact same locations over and over again. There is no sense of exploration, the characters are poorly developed, character development was replaced by "witty" banter, and I use the term "witty" very loosely.

There is not much at all to redeem this game.

Play Mass Effect and Origins again, the experience will be infinitely superior.

I think Bioware is done producing good games, they're driven by the need to for green now.

So, the way to maximize profit is to make bad games?

I have an opportunity to get the game for arround 15 bucks, but I'm wondering if it's even worth it. I've heard alot people say its kind of bland and lame, also being a big let down from origins. Is this true? Is the game not even worth playing? Just so you know I'm a busy college student, and my gaming time is limited. I'd rather not waste it playing some mediocre bioware cash in. So keep that in mind when making your reccomendations.

There's a free demo. Try that, and get an idea for yourself. Most people's complaints seem to be the voiced protagonist and combat animations. See if they bother you that much in the demo. If not, you'll probably like the game. Everyone has their own opinions and tastes, and you may like it even if others hate it. IMO, 15 bucks is a pretty good deal though, even if it's just to try the full game, get the story, and sell it to Gamestop for 5 bucks or something.

Bear in mind that the DLC is alot better than the core game, on an hour by hour basis.

For $15 very much yes. DA II is a good game. It might not be great like many folks feel DA:O was, but DA II is very much worth playing.

The only decent music in the game is the main title and Hawke family theme. Geometry Wars 2 had better music.

Still hoping for an expansion for DA2 that will fix the ending of the game so that it actually feels like Hawke actually matters to the universe myself.

In saying that, I still putter about in DA2 even now without the DLCs. Refuse to give BW the money until we get a decent patch, or an expansion, or a patch for the Toolset to allow mods to be produced for DA2 (and its much improved engine!)

Yeah, DA II really is better than Origins and most games. That's a fact.
