I'm on my third play-through (restarted twice) and noticed I've developed the habit of stripping Daveth and Jory of their gear (disregarding Jory's sword) before the ritual.

Does anyone else do this? Or am I the only Warden / packrat who graduated with a class of two men in their undies.

Haha, I do the same thing. Bit of a waste to let that gear get away. You can do the same thing to some of your companions in the origin story. The Dalish mage has a great robe...

No need for this. You'll keep their equipment anyway.

I totally have never noticed how Jory's sword magically appears back on him even though you strip him down to his undies.

His sword doesnt appear... another Longsword does. So when you strip them you get a free long sword after words.

Ha ha, I never even thought of doing that until I read your topic title.

I've noticed that in most cases where you get a temporary NPC, you don't need to strip them to keep their gear - it winds up in your pack anyway. This is definitely the case with Daveth and Jory, and is the case with several other temporary NPC's throughout the early stages of the game.

Yep, automatically loot their gear from their corpses. Gray Wardens are practical if nothing else.

However that Circle-Mage ally you get, you don't get his gear and lose it if you put some on him (I lost some helm my first playthrough).

I'm shamed to admit not only do I do that, but I also stripped my mother in the human noble origin

You should be ashamed good sir! :P

But no I've never even thought of doing it and I never even noticed that their equipment appeared in my pack afterwards either, interesting.

I did this too.

And for the record, if you give Jory and/or Daveth your own gear, you don't get it back unless you strip them first. You only get the gear they started with. So it's worth at least removing any items you give them yourself before the ritual.

I also stripped the two NPCs that join (again because I gave them some of my own equipment) in the tower right before the Ogre dies.

Who gives Jory and Daveth gear...That's like giving a Star Trek redshirt an important task on the planet your beaming down to....I think my nerd is showing.

I did, the theory being that every little bit probably helps.
After my Mage Origin story I had some spare gear (like belts and a pendants), where they had empty slots.

I stripped Jory and Daveth of their gear before the ritual on my first playthrough. I just felt like they were going to be taken out of my party. Same with mother in the origin. :P

It's not about giving them gear. It's about taking the gear they already have.

I agree. Also just as tedious is setting up tactical slot commands for temporary NPC's!  But I'm giving nightmare a go, so I made the effort this time.

So did I.  Doing so was way out of character for my Rogue, who's basically loyal to his family and "good people," and I felt a bit embarrassed during the final Castle Cousland cut scene.  :crying:  But "practical matters" won out (having more goods to sell at Ostagar).

Nah, because you get their stuff anyway. Although I do swap the warden's armour for Daveth's (if rogue) or Jory's (if warrior) in the Korcari Wilds because their stuff is better.

Strip Joinings are the best Joinings.

What if there was something implemented to allow certain NPCs to realize that you'd stripped them? X)

This I guess it was Ultimately Necro'd by a master Necromancer.

OT:

I haven't stripped them at all since you get all their equipment after the joining anyway. I stipped Morrigan though on my first playthrough and then sent her away.
