Has Mark Hamil ever been in a Bioware game? I don't think so but if he was ever in a Bioware game I would buy it straight away.

She didn't.
Neither did Felicia Day.  BioWare approached her to work on something with her.

Funny, I remember reading quite the opposite:) Something along the lines that webseries about Tallis was entirely Day's idea and she needed some canon info to proceed so she contacted the writers. And then BW got all excited about her. Though, I'm too lazy to look for the links now.

If you have any links where developers state otherwise, feel free to prove me wrong.

When you are a successful, paid writer approached to work on a licensed property, what you write loses any qualities that could be used to define it as "fan-fiction" -
unless you are trying to equate "fan-fiction" = "bad writing", at which point you are not only enterting subjective territory but you are ignoring the wide range of "quality" for professional writing and fan writing.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't 'nuff said before.
:P

By 'fan-fiction' I meant 'self-insert-supah-awesome character'. The DLC overall was great, it has some of the best dialogs in entire game and I enjoyed it a lot. I just didn't like that it was so focused on Tallis. If they liked Tallis/Felicia Day so much, they could go Leliana Song route and make her actual main character.

Yeah, does that make any sense to you? No? Me, either. ;)

He's one of the possible PC voices for IWD and/or BG2 I believe.

So, for example, if we were to make a Joker based DLC featuring Seth Green or an Illusive Man DLC with Martin Sheen, that would be a bad thing?

Seth Green is ok, Martin Sheen, yes that would be bad to answer your question. I found the Illusive man to be rather dull. Lacks humour and failed to entertain me personally he just never felt "oh that funny/bad/good guy" he was just "that guy" to me. He didn't make me cry or laugh or hide in fear, he was just random dude sits in chair with glowey eyes that I'm supposed to hate but don't care about him. Joker on the other hand was "that funny guy" he made me laugh and filled that role to me.

Sometimes clicking the "BioWare" tag beneath a topic title is all I need to do to catch up to speed.

Seconded, Chris. Or millionth, depending on how many people have agreed with you thus far. Which I hope is the majority.

Ah well, always going to be plenty of opinions in the world.

The Illusive Man totally works as far as I'm concerned.

Not to mention, celebrities add to the game. First time I heard the Illusive man I thought "Holy crap - that's Martin Sheen?!" then I had to actually pay attention to him and noticed he does an incredible job at voicing illusive man. Same goes for Joker.

I don't understand your dislike for celebrities. (Btw, I had to google Felicia Day - doesn't seem that well-known to me) When you hear a familiar voice, especially one coming from an awesome video game, it makes it all the more exciting.

That enough for now?

How about YOUR proof that she approached BIoWare with stuff she had already written.

Anything?

The problem with celebrities is they are well known for other roles so when hear their voice or see their face you end up thinking back to the other roles they have played this is slightly immersion breaking because you have flashbacks of something they said or done in a film or series not part of what your playing. When i see Felica Days character, hear her voice I am not thinking Dragon Age Redmeption, or Dragon Age at all, I am thinking Town Called Eureka, The Guild, Buffy.

That's fair, I often think of Sheen's role in "The Departed" when I hear his voice, granted. Doesn't really work with Seth Green for me though because I'm not much for comedies.

I gather she was in Buffy, which gives her more of a right to "celebrity" status than Paris Hilton had when she became famous.

Edit: damn, you lost the reds? It was so much better with the reds.

With Joker and Seth Green, because his character never looked like him it was a 50/50 immersion thing simply because his voice had the alternative effect of I thought about Buffy, Up River Without Paddle and various other comedy films like Austin Powers. I think Seth Green / I think Dr Evils child or see him huddling up in being carried off by a bear in Without Paddle film or just as Oz in Buffy. If he also looked like him in as Joker and not just sounded like himself to me it would be 80-90% or more immersion breaking akin to why is Oz flying a spaceship in Mass Effect and is he going to turn into Werewolf.

To a certain extent I can agree, but I also believe it depends on any personal bias people may have towards that celebrity good or bad.

I'm huge fan of Matt Damon, so if he did a voice for a character in any video game, I would be perfectly fine regardless. So personal likeability plays a key role IMO.

celebrity - A famous person.
famous - Known about by many people

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1260407/
http://en.wikipedia....iki/Felicia_Day
http://www.time.com/...2059112,00.html - Followers: 1.8 million

http://twitaholic.co...p200/followers/ - 176.  Just under Tom Cruise.  Just above Kevin Smith, Alyssa Milano, Jeremy Piven and Emma Watson.

So, yeah, I think she qualifies as a "celebrity."  Just saying.

Well, I'm a fan.  But also know how to do a five minute Google search.  And I hate easily (read: pathetically easily) disproven falsehoods.

Also - in a combative mood currently. :pinched:

Yes because those are dudes. Half naked female characters that look like female celebs only.

They don't have to be half naked they could be naked, up to you.

Idc that much but if they start doing it to become really distracting, like Mr. T voicing a guy who constantly says "Shut Up Foo!" then it'll be a bad thing. =P

I think getting celebs to voice some characters is good....HOWEVER...I do NOT like seeing video games or movies where the entire voice over cast is made up of famous actors. Movies like Megamind (Will Ferrel, Tina Fey and Brad Pitt) and Despicable Me (Steve Carrell and someone else but I know Julie Andrews played the mom). I think movie really suffer when the main part of the budge is say paying one guy to come in. I remember posters for Aladdin had Robin Williams in the header which is absurd - something I think he agrees with. Then there are movies like Toy Story where there is two actors (Tim Allen and Tom Hanks) who aren't advertised as the voices at all. Kind of the same with Shrek with Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy. Point is; celeb voice overs can be a good thing but if and only if it isn't done in excess and they aren't over-advertised.
