No, I love it too. People have an issue with how overly simplified it sounds, I believe; they're looking for everything they can shake a "this is becoming Call of Duty in space" stick at, almost. But Shepard's right -- everyone, every last remotely capable combatant, is going to need to take part in staving off the Reaper threat in order to have the smallest jab at success. And Shepard is so totally right for being blunt too -- he/she has known about the looming menace for a while now and hasn't gotten the support necessary to mount a resistance.

I'm not saying that's the sole reason so many people aren't keen but I think for many of them it absolutely is.

As long as I can skip them on repeated playthroughs, yes.

Someone SHOULD make a speech, hell yeah. Whether it's Sheppard or not I'm not sure about. I'd like my character inspiring the troops as the final battle commences with a montage of my allies in battle going on. But if they do have us do a speech, it better be better then the one you gave in the Collector base which in my opinion, wasn't all that good.

If anything I think Shepard's final speech will be in a Hanger of the Destiny Ascension (if it's still around) or the Hanger of a random Dreadnought. Everyone will be getting ready. Then Shepard will come over the intercom surrounded by his squad (past and current) and everyone in the hanger will gather around him while everyone else in the fleet listens from their posts. It will go something like this for paragon players:

"Well men. It's finally here. Our moment of truth, and I won't lie to you, the stakes have never been higher, the threat has never been so real. At the end of this day our fate will be decided, for good or ill. Today could be the end of all we have ever known, and I can't promise any of you that you'll return. (Dramatic pause) But.....i promise you this, We will not go quietly. The Reapers with all their talk of superiority, only attack through secrecy and deception. They have always taken their enemy by surprise. Well not this time. Never before have they faced a united and organized force of every species in the galaxy. And as our fleet emerges from the relay take them head on, they will learn to fear the races they have so long marked as insignificant. As we devastate their fleet with our will to survive, they will remember us as the species that would not go quietly as their extermination was at hand! We will make them regret ever setting foot on our planets as we drive them from the face of the Galaxy! (Dramatic pause) Muster your courage, ready your weapons, stand to your posts, and above all else remember that today we end this cycle of extinction once and for all. Not only for ourselves, but for all the lives and races the Reapers have taken. Today, we face our destiny."

Well, maybe you're right about some, but my personal problem with it is that it isn't a plan at all, it's a description of their predicament. What this series badly needs is some kind of objective, an overarching achievable goal to aim for, and the quote in my sig suggests that ME3 might still fail to provide one.

Nah, I hate that guy. Also the option titles are already extremely misleading and it will be hell trying to pick the right one if they make them longer, which brings forth dilemas like "hmm should I playthrough the stage again just to be able to pick a less corny speech; oh crap, this one's even worse!"

By that i mean should he be brodcasting his/her voice for Earth's resistance, Give epic speeches to to the armies who will retake Earth. TIM did say Shepard was brought back for because of his/ her being a symbol everyone could unite behind? I am not saying we should spend less time shooting wave after wave of enemies in the face but i would like to see Shepard being used as a unifying force in the story.

what do you think?

No. His rank is not high enough. I would expect political leaders and nobility to perform this role, although I'm not sure if there is such a thing as the nobility in the ME universe.

Although Shepard has always had influence above his station so I wouldn't be suprised if he did.

Rough translation: We who are about to die, don't want to.

Or the very well thought out dwarven battle cry of;
Today is a good day for someone else to die!

I want Shepard to give more snarky retorts to the Reapers. I think it would help a lot. At least, for me. XD

There wasn't a Shepard speech in both games that didn't make me cringe. The ones I couldn't skip (such as the end of Arrival) made me cringe more and made all my Shepards but one out-of-character. I hate them.

I never believed in the power of pep talk anyway.

So, if there must be speeches, either make them optional, or, for God's sake, don't make them stupid and cringeworthy. Repeating what everyone knows, putting derogatory terms on an enemy like the Reapers, that simply won't work. If the writers cannot write a speech as inspiring as Shepard is said to be - and so far they've fallen so far short that I can't see the shores of inspiration with a telescope - then I'd rather have something short and to the point.

(At the encounter at the end of Arrival, after Harbinger promised all the things the Reapers would do, I'd rather have my Shepard answer with a short "We shall see", instead of the ridiculously verbose defiance we get to see. To say nothing of "That's what humans do".)

I'm guessing there's going to be something like that just before the final battle.

I think that there will be more than one occasion where Shepard will have to deliver some very inspirational speeches. He must convince the politicians that cooperation with the other races is the only chance that they have, he must convince them to utilize their remaining militaries to unite into one fleet, he must convince them that there needs to be one commander, and he must motivate those who will serve under his command. Shepard has spoken such words before.

His speech before the assault on the Collector base and when he established the rear guard, made me want to pick up a rifle and fight. Leadership is about motivating people and part of that motivation are the words used to ignite a fire in the hearts of your followers. The fuel is the need of every race to survive, therefore Shepard needs to use words that will burn that fuel and bend the will of the collective races to their common purpose: survival.

While I realize that it is always a tall order to write dialog that resonates deeply with the player, BioWare has done so masterfully in the past and I fully expect them to do so again. Every once in a while, the nobility of humanity is demonstrated through Shepard's words. When that happens in the game, it is really something to behold. They can't leave that out of the most important installment of the series. That would be criminal in my opinion.

I want Shepher to go full on Laura Roslin.

Harbinger: "Extinction is your only option."

Shepherd: "Not now, not ever. I will use every bomb, every bullet, every weapon I have down to my own eyeteeth to end you. I SWEAR IT! I'm coming for all of you!"

Definitely needs epic speeches. Because the only thing better than exterminating your enemy, is talking about how awesomely you're going to do it just beforehand.

Talk is cheap.

Show the Reapers your hammer, give 'em the helicopter trick, and get to fighting.

Shep does fairly good speeches. (Not as good as Kirrahe, but that's my personal opinion.) Even in court - his closing argument at Tali's trial was pretty passionate.

It would be a pity if he couldn't do a good defiant one near the end.

A quiet, defiatnt yet intense Shepard speech would be great to see. Impassioned coupled with temperan and rational decision making. That's a leader. That's what someone who knows what they are doing would say, kind of speech.

Yeah, I wasn#'t too keen on the reference to humanity in that speech. I mean, none of my Shepards have a problem with aliens (Liara ftw) and yet for some reason he/she says "yadda yadda thats what humans do", i mean whut? They could have just gone ME1 with it and did a whole

We should have more speeches, and not just by Shepard: I want the likes of Hackett, Anderson and TIM to win me over with their magnificent charisma. Kirrahe had quite the decent speech, but now I want one of the level of Gears' Chairman Prescott or Killzone's Scholar Visari.

Shepard should be giving better speeches, not bigger speeches.
