Hello,

I'm trying to use the problem reporting format mentioned in the sticky. I haven't seen other posts about people having this issue with MotA, so making my own thread:

I'm playing the physical disk version of the game.

Version for executables listed as follows:

DragonAge2.exe - v.1.03
DragonAge2Launcher.exe - v1.01
DragonAge2Config.exe - v1.03
Uninstall Dragon Age 2.exe - v1.00

Here are my system details:

      Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
           * Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @2.67GHz w/ 7.99GB Physical Memory
           * ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series 1.0GB VRAM w/ Catalyst v11.9 Drivers
           * Logitech G930 Headset w/ v. 6.1.7601.17514 drivers
      Configuration Utility | Platform Tab
           * Microsoft WIndows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)
           * DirectX 11 (Jun2010) or later

Here are details about my problem:

While playing the Mark of the Assassin DLC the game freezes up when the party arrives at the Duke's mansion. Once conversation is initiated, the cutscene video eventually freezes up while the audio continues to go on. If I alt-tab out of the game, I notice there is a message saying my video drivers stopped responding and were reset. If I try to tab back into DA2, the game crashes and I get a message saying the program has stopped responding.

I've never had any serious problems with Dragon Age 2 before and this didn't happen until after I installed MotA and tried to play it. I even recently finished the Legacy DLC without any problems, so I'm assuming it's something to do with this DLC. None of my other games are having issues if that matter (Crysis 2, Deus Ex, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, etc.).

Also, this only seems to happen when I converse with the Duke and it always seems to happen right around the time I ask him about the merits of wyvern poison. I've tried this 3 times and had the same result every time.

My version of the game has no mods installed.

One side note: I recently purchased Rage and due to their absymal PC launch downloaded AMD's hotfix drivers to increase performance in that game. I thought perhaps that was causing the issue, so I uninstalled the ATI drivers and manually removed any driver references from the registry and appdata folders, just in case. Then I reinstalled the old 11.9 drivers. That did not fix the problem.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :o

I'm having the same issues...

Version: same as above

Config:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz
3168 MHz 2.98 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series 1.00 GB CATALYST 11.9

First time I've had crashing issues.
***workaround* for that cutscene, go to windowed mode instead of full screen -- that's how I just got around it...put it back at FS now and no problems...yet**

I never had problems with DA2 either, but since MOTA the game keeps crashing. My guess is it's related to the video card, I've got an ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series too.

Having the same issue.
I tried Steam's file and defrag checkers also.
Reinstalled the MOTA Expansion and no changes.
This is my first time experiencing any crashes or trouble.

Same version as opening post.
Fully patched game
HQ textures active
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series
Win 7
Steam version of the game
Problems only occur when inside of the MOTA Expansion.

I also get the crash right in the middle of the conversation with the Duke.

After three or four times getting the crash in full screen mode, I decided to start ninja saving my game to anticipate the next crash and avoid losing game progress.

I decided to try to press ESC to fast fwd through the cut scene dialogs and just input my answers for the conversation. [note this is not advised for first time through the cut scene since you miss valuable dialog points by using the ESC key].

Bypassing each segment of the cutscene conversation has managed to delay the crash through the Duke conversation and things were stable for about 20 to 60 minutes of game play and then the crash started again in a different area of the Mark of The Assassin DLC Duke's mansion outside area. This time not inside of a cut scene.

I noticed also that certain random uneven motion graphics and jerky un-smooth transitions occur in the MOTA expansion as well.

:huh:

I'm having the same issue as well, and when I recently started a new character my game keeps crashing during first conversation with Aveline in an identical fashion. Also, I too have Ati Radeon 5800 series.

I had reposted in the other, bigger MotA bug thread to keep it all in one post... but since this post is still alive and there seems to be an issue with us 5800 series users, I'll follow up here.

I tried Alar's suggestion (second post in this thread) and went to windowed mode. That got me through the Duke's cutscene and allowed me to continue on in the game. However, now I'm having major crashing issues at random points in the game. My screen goes black and I CTD and get a "program stopped responding" error. This is the buggiest I've ever seen DA2.

Is there any word someone from Bioware can give us on this? It'd be much appreciated. :)

ATI is still only offering the 11.9 version drivers and I find it funny there are so many issues with the DLC, considering MotA ads are plastered up and down the sides of the driver download page. :P

Really eager to get these issues fixed! DLC seems great, minus the problems. Any feedback/help anyone can give is much appreciated!

I wouldn't count on any replies in what anyone would think would be in a timely manner from official techs or mods here. Anyway, I have the same problems. Just simply moving about the hunting grounds (as an example, and anywhere else really), the game freezes, then crashes. There is even one area where there is loot on a pile of bones, but when I try to go to that area, the game crashes every time. I find having to create saves is really annoying just to maintain my progress. So far, it is making this DLC really an unenjoyable experience, added with the fact that no official Bioware mods or techies even make an acknowledgment.

I have this problem too. It's definitely graphics related. The problems stopped for me when I went back from "Very High" to "High" graphics settings. Also setting to DX9 worked. So it looks like it crashes on a DX11 feature that is only enabled when the settings are set to "Very High".

I have CCC 11.9 and problems too... To deactivate Catalyst AI i had to change it to "performance". Now DA2 runs without crash. Hopefully this will be fixed in future releases!

Same problem as OP. Also same version as above.

Here are my system details:

      Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
           * Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU    Q6700  @ 2.66GHz
           * ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series 1.0GB VRAM w/ Catalyst v11.9 Drivers
           * Physical Memory: 3,93 GB
           * Microsoft Windows 7 Professional  Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)(64bit)
           * DirectX 11 (Jun2010) or later

The CCC AI fix only got me through the cutscene on my first try, it started crashing again when I started MoTA with my other characters.

I posted on an old one with the crashing. Has anyone checked their event viewer to see if its ntdll.dll?
in any case I noticed 1 thing we all have in common - AMD 5800 series.

Here's a link I posted on AMD forums as well
http://forums.amd.co...threadid=155654

also, the old ntdll.dll posts going back to non DLC DA II stuff.
http://social.biowar...index/6407584/3

I guess there's no love for the 5870 users anymore...

I'm on a 5870 - no problems with MotA - maybe it's your drivers? I'm on 11.8 - try rolling back your drivers -  I hear 11.9 is causing issues.

Didn't think this thread would still be going...

The only fix I've found is the one mentioned by Tyrium earlier in this thread, and that is to use the 11.8 drivers to play this DLC. Once I installed those drivers, everything worked fine on the highest settings with DX11 enabled. I did also try to install the 11.10 version 2 preview drivers, but they had the exact same problems as 11.9.

Clearly this is a problem with both the 11.9 and the 11.10 (version 1 and 2) Catalyst drivers when used with 5800 series cards (unless some other AMD models are having issues also?). I hope when ATI releases the final version of 11.10 that this is no longer an issue. Otherwise I'll have to install 11.8 when I want to play DA2 and 11.10 when I want to play Rage. That's just a little inconvenient. :P

But for all my fellow ATI 5800 series uers, installing the 11.8 drivers to play MotA should fix your problem.

My game is crashing too since the DLC.

Lower Spec Laptop, with Geforce 9600m GT. Was running the game fine before on medium setting dx9. Now it won't even load the game menu, half the time.... or start the game... or load well anything. Amazing when my game does load everything is fine till i load another save file to replay something... really annoying right now. I'm a die-hard fan for Bio-ware games but since they went to EA... this is sort of BS atm..
