But in the latest rpgs i played, there was no longer hair.. Not that it isnt nice, but im starting to look forward for a custom made then.. I like long hair.. Not to blame bioware, but comon.. Females must have longer hair too, and if its a physx thing.. comeon.. Maybe a day more work..

But then the release will be delayed, so no.. Then this one will fit..

In one of the screens with werewolves you see a dryad with very long anime-like hair. I wished I could set them up for my character.

It's major clipping issue which prevents long hair in this game, and that would be a huge amount more than just 'maybe a day more work.' People always under estimate just how time consuming small things can be.

Sure, a lot of games would just let the hair clip, but that's something BIoware didn't want to do in this case, at least that's how it seems.

The lack of long hair for females is a disappointment to be sure. I don't give a wossname if the hair clips just as long as it's long and nicely done. To whomever it is who looks after hair for Dragon Age, please hurry some long hair into the game.

And just think how awkward the hair would look if there aren't any animations for it. For what we have seen the hair is not animated, so it doesn't flip or single strokes of hair don't change position, it doesn't react to the movements to the character. The hair would clip constantly while the character moves the head, goes through different poses.
It would be just one big awkward plate of hair over the back of the character...
On a more realistic side, I have the impression that long hair is very uncomfortable in battle. Constantly getting into the way, soaking blood and sweat, horribly hard to cultivate while traveling...

Plus Bioware included a few "long" hair options, just tied back or in braids or buns.

And if people still insist on long hair options, I am sure someone is willing to integrate this beautypack into a mod for DA:O.. they did it with NWN2, so I guess it can be done... *shrugs*

hair in general is an already broadly discussed matter. Please feel free to contribute to that topic here to keep it flaming: http://social.biowar.../20/index/57795
I seriuosly think that if we keep that Topic on front, Bioware will have to consider spending more attention on matters like that.
@jeckaldied: Programming Games is difficult and Time consuming and I really respect everybody contributing Time and Work to projects like that. But Bioware (i.e. EA!!) is not a small group of freetime students, they are a big company of well-paid professionals, so "engine problems" is quite a lame excuse for that topic.

My question is why it's somehow more a disappointment that females, specifically, don't have long hair. It's so often phrased that way. Very strange.

we live in a shojo-manga-plagued society, do you really wonder?

Someone will make a hair mod, sooner rather than later I would guess. It will clip a little in some outfits, but won't really look bad. It has been so for the last several modifiable RPGs.

I noticed those and thought the length was still sorely lacking.

Aye and thanks for the reminder. I reckon there will be some great styles from the modding community in the future :)

It's just a real shame that Bioware has not made long hair styles available at release. :(

I just hope modding in this game is easy, and does not require changing complicated game files that is hard to reverse to enable my game to update patches or DLC.

I agree completely. I am really curious to see what creative and awesome mods will pop up after the release, including cosmetical ones. [smilie]../../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

Long hair would clip badly and look extremely odd since hair isn't animated. That -- and my preference for short hair -- is why none of my characters will have loose hair longer than chin-length. It ends up looking like a hair-shaped plastic helmet.

Bioware are fools, for sure, for not prioritizing this. If you're patronizing enough (only a day more work!) I'm sure they'll get right on it.

This is no small issue. It will require very smooth physics to offer a long hair 'good'. This game is not like an action game whose characters always wear the same clothes, so It would require a lot of physics. It won't be one day of work, it will be more than that. Also, that would mean that in lower specs PC it would look as hell if you desactivate it, or it will ruin the performance.

I was infuriated seein the short beards of the dwarves, but if you try one of the longest beards and then some dialog voices, you'll see how the clipping is very easy, thanks to the great animation of the face.

maybe, maybe, there is a modder out there who is skilled, and also makes animations..

could take some time, but hey whatever, if you want it good, it take time, so..

But lets us hope and pray, that we will get long hair..

@Nimkiikaa

why? it is an issue.. For if i think of rpg, i see medieval areas, and same for the people.. Woman had long hair these days. Some woman not.. So why its not in a game that is set in a fantasy medieval setting?

First, how long is long to you? "Long Hair" can be rather subjective.

people who say things like this only show that they know nothing about making a game.

Well there would be no real way of confirming that they did, unless you have a time machine. Paintings wouldn't serve as true visual proof, since paintings of people back then were them posing. And mostly of high class society.
Also if we want to be more realistic, look at Joan of Arc paintings of her in full armor, having her with very little hair. Tied up as well. Also women in those time periods were not allowed to fight.

Considering how poor the general populace was in those times I doubt women would have kept their hair long, considering the amount of maintance that goes it to keeping it.

Then again this is just a game, with dragons and monsters.

If you look at most RPG's with long hair, they keep it quite static, which is unrealistic. Long hair moves around quite a bit when you start running and jumping, which has horrendous implications for the physics of the games. Also, long hair is never a good idea in combat.
