Sure, a lot of games would just let the hair clip, but that's something BIoware didn't want to do in this case, at least that's how it seems.

It's major clipping issue which prevents long hair in this game, and that would be a huge amount more than just 'maybe a day more work.' People always under estimate just how time consuming small things can be.

And just think how awkward the hair would look if there aren't any animations for it. For what we have seen the hair is not animated, so it doesn't flip or single strokes of hair don't change position, it doesn't react to the movements to the character. The hair would clip constantly while the character moves the head, goes through different poses.
It would be just one big awkward plate of hair over the back of the character...
On a more realistic side, I have the impression that long hair is very uncomfortable in battle. Constantly getting into the way, soaking blood and sweat, horribly hard to cultivate while traveling...
Plus Bioware included a few "long" hair options, just tied back or in braids or buns.
And if people still insist on long hair options, I am sure someone is willing to integrate this beautypack into a mod for DA:O.. they did it with NWN2, so I guess it can be done... *shrugs*

I seriuosly think that if we keep that Topic on front, Bioware will have to consider spending more attention on matters like that.
@jeckaldied: Programming Games is difficult and Time consuming and I really respect everybody contributing Time and Work to projects like that. But Bioware (i.e. EA!!) is not a small group of freetime students, they are a big company of well-paid professionals, so "engine problems" is quite a lame excuse for that topic.

I noticed those and thought the length was still sorely lacking.Yenaquai wrote...

Aye and thanks for the reminder. I reckon there will be some great styles from the modding community in the futureYenaquai wrote...

It's just a real shame that Bioware has not made long hair styles available at release.

I agree completely. I am really curious to see what creative and awesome mods will pop up after the release, including cosmetical ones. [smilie]../../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

I was infuriated seein the short beards of the dwarves, but if you try one of the longest beards and then some dialog voices, you'll see how the clipping is very easy, thanks to the great animation of the face.

why? it is an issue.. For if i think of rpg, i see medieval areas, and same for the people.. Woman had long hair these days. Some woman not.. So why its not in a game that is set in a fantasy medieval setting?

people who say things like this only show that they know nothing about making a game.

Well there would be no real way of confirming that they did, unless you have a time machine. Paintings wouldn't serve as true visual proof, since paintings of people back then were them posing. And mostly of high class society.
Also if we want to be more realistic, look at Joan of Arc paintings of her in full armor, having her with very little hair. Tied up as well. Also women in those time periods were not allowed to fight.
Considering how poor the general populace was in those times I doubt women would have kept their hair long, considering the amount of maintance that goes it to keeping it.
Then again this is just a game, with dragons and monsters.
