So you have Bethany.   Who's inclined to friend you.

And you have Carver.  Who's inclined to rival you.

It's not too hard  to get Bethany to friendship (a bit harder to get Carver to rivalry, but it's possible- it just means doing a lot of random actions as the things he likes and dislikes are a bit more varied then Beth's generally 'like mages, don't be an ****').  But is it, now that we have the DLCs, possible to move Bethany to full rivalry or Carver to full friendship?

I'm about to give a go with Carver- it is going to have to mean going the Grey Warden path (as that's an easy +25 or whatever points right there) for him.  But I wonder if there are enough points out there.  Has anyone given it a shot?

Uh. I'm not sure I'm understanding your question, but for me, Bethy locks in at friendship in the first act if I'm not an anti-mage d-bag to her, and once a character is at full one or the other it can't change...

Trying the get Carver to full friendship is one of the most fun things I've ever found to do in DA2. Same with getting full rivalry with Bethany, I hated getting +friendship with her :<.

I don't think Beth gets full rivalry, maybe pretty close, but with Legacy Carver's full friendship is a possibility.

As I understand what the OP is asking is if it is possible to get Carver to full friendship or Bethany to full rivalry - the opposite direction they start in.

I've heard tell full Carver friendship is possible, but I've never really gone for it. Be interesting to do it if we can though.

It's possible to get Carver to full friendship. (I managed to get him to 95, and I missed a few points.) However, I don't think there are enough points available to get Bethany to full rivalry, at least not according to the wiki. I've never tried it myself, although I'm thinking about doing so next run.

There's no bonus content for locking sibling approval - their reactions change according to which side of the metre you're on, but that's all. I still found befriending Carver a satisfying experience. (Even though my Hawke had to throw her fellow mages under the bus on several occasions to do it.)

If you take every opportunity to side against the mages take it and it's easy to get Carver to full friendship.

i like her alot and in my games my hawke always support mages, i wish going rival with bethany will make her more secure and willing to accept that she is a superb mage! :)

Unless your character thinks just like Carver no it isn't possible to stay in character.  Even with the DLC getting him to full friendship requires you milking all of the +friendship points and avoiding all +rival that you can.    I assume it is the same with Beth going rival though I haven't done that nor do I think I will.  I just can not be mean to her.

Awesome. So full friendship Carver is definitely possible, but full rivalry Beth has not been recorded- less points, and lack of people willing to be mean to her. I'll have to give that a try, then.

Thanks, all!

Both my Carvers, one is locked in Full Friendship, other is very close(may never get locked, unless there more options beyond Legacy). Getting Bethany to full Rivalry, is that even possible?  That would mean, never giving her the stuff that would unlock all her armor too.

Yes it is. My Hawke turned in Grace and her cohorts to the templars because she knew they were blood mages but was unwilling to slaughter the lot of them outright. She thought that Feynriel would have done better in the Circle where he could get real magical instruction from other mages that didn't flat out resent his presence (like he would have gotten with the Dalish). She demanded that Petrice give her the money simply because she had no intention of getting into an argument with a chantry official in Lowtown.

Well all of those you listed give +friendship with Carver so really you did what he would have.  Doing any of those the other way will mean you will come up short of full friendship.  I should admit that I did assume what Tyrium meant by staying in character was a mage friendly run.

Uh, I'm actually trying to get Carver to be my friend right now, its pretty close now.
Also will never be a douchebag to Bethany. She's too innocent(plus I got pissed when Cullen took her away to the Circle)

I've never got Carver even close to friendship, I hate his personality, hes such a whiner, I love Bethany though but that's my opinion, getting Bethany to full friendship is pretty easy compared to Carver but that's because of the way I play, I've tried to get Carver's friendship but I haven't managed it yet, he just really irritates me, lol.
