Aventia 3 Merged- Unlimited Levels, CEP 2.3 or higher required.

Well since Aventia 3 Merged (Av3) is no longer connected to the previous versions of Aventia, or the other current version of Aventia, I thought I would give it it’s own post here under PW, to give a description of the server, and announce certain updates and events.

A little background about Aventia 3 Merged: Aventia was started in December of 2002 by Oclair. He led a strong and vibrant community which built the foundation of Aventia until he stopped hosting in 2008 (?) After which Ralt began hosting it, and in conjunction with the community continued to develop until he stopped hosting about 5-6 months ago. I considered this the second generation of Av (Av2.) There are now 2 separate Aventias, AventiaG hosted by Grench, and Aventia 3 Merged hosted by myself. Aventia originally was all one module, but was then split up into 4 (and then later 5) separate modules on 4 (5) different servers sharing a server vault. I have merged them back into one module again for Av3. Aventia has had easily 100+ people work on it over the years, and Av3 continues to be community content contributed driven world with 100’s of areas for all level ranges, and constantly evolving areas and features.

Some of the features of Av3 are:

-Basically unlimited levels- You stop getting standard levels at 40, but continue to get levels which give you various bonuses depending on your build, in addition to a new feature in Av3 called Post Epic Level (PEL) ability bonuses which allow players to continue to gain ability points. There is an actual level cap of 2012 or so, but no one has ever legitimately (with out being a DM test toon) gotten close, so for all intensive purposes it is basically unlimited. I believe the highest level a player has achieved to date is 400, although we have another current player who may exceed this in the near future.

-There are so many other features to Av3, I can’t possibly list them all, but some of them include numerous class/ability/feat/spell changes, a subrace system, an experience/gold bank in addition to an item vault, quest items can be acquired by participating in DM events but can also be gotten in game outside of events, custom items can be made, there is a re-leveler, low level forge, appearance crafter (tailor), portal system, shard of returning, a guide book to Aventia 3, and I could go on and on.

SoU, HotU, and CEP 2.3 or higher required.

Well so as I mentioned in a previous post there have been too many changes in Av3 from Av2 to list them all, but I thought I would highlight a few of them.

New areas, and more updated areas.

Increased exp cap.

Increased QP shard drop rate.

Shard exchanger to trade 2 of one type for one of another.

Low level forge, and ability to get custom high level items with QP.

Numerous use per day abilities/feats have been increased.

Upped item guidelines, including allowing different high DR armor rules.

Tons more spells have been modified.

Devestating critical- We have a unique custom modification of this that has the original DC calc, but adds devastating magical damage to your existing crit (and planar rift) damage. The damage calc is weapon size x multiplier x str mod x base weapon damage.

Stealthers- We changed the on spawn script that was giving all spawns true seeing to see invis. Some still have TS from items, but stealth and HIPs are quite usefull now.

SD- Shadow evade greatly increased.

Sneak attackers- In addition to the normal sneak attack damage, sneak attack also now gets post 40 which is applied with in the planar rift post 40 damage. This occurs on all attacks that hit, not just ones eligible for sneak attack.

Defensive stance- An item can be acquired for DD’s which allows them to use a defensive stance use for the day to gain 1% immune to all damage types per 2 DD levels and a HP boost.

Barb rages- The standard and greater rages were changed so that instead of getting ability stats (which are easily maxed out from items) they give a boost to the barbs HP, damage, attack, and saves. Greater rage also doubles the barbs DR, and boosts it’s mele factor by .25 which increases the barbs standard post 40 damage. Mighty rage increases by .5. Thundering rage adds xDy electrical damage to the barbs weapon(s) which increase post 40, and terrifying has been doubled and uncapped.

Bards- Have access to items which give them 4 different versions of their songs that essentially cast nature’s balance, mass charm, horid wilting, and Wail. The dc is boosted by perform skill

Shifters have alternate abilities, increased stats to get planar rift, and all items merge. Same with druid elder elementals.

Turn undead has been boosted so that it is more useful early on, and the casters turn level still increases post 40

Numerous weapon buffs like holy sword, divine might, blade thirst, bless weapon, dark fire, flame weapon, also get xDy damage which increases post 40. (e.g. lvl 200ish pure pally gets 20d20 divine damage from holy sword where as a lvl 50 pure pally prolly only gets 3d20.)

Arcane archers also get a similar buff to their arrows from imbue arrows, and amo stacks up to 999, along with other mods.

A non-hak based subrace system.

Post Epic Level (PEL) ability point bonuses.

An experience bank.

And so much more, checking the book of Aventia has a ton of information in it…

Well the double exp weekend seems to have been a hit. So rather than reverting fully, I have permanently increased the exp cap to 500 for regular spawns, and 10,000 for bosses. This should help new players reach the post 40 content faster, and help existing players get to some high lvl toons faster, rather than it taking years.
Cheers everyone,
Laz

I am very happy to announce, we got a major update in that allows all bosses now to have a rare random chance at droping one of over 1500+ 6 QP items (which generally are better than any drop) in addition to their regular loot, and QP shards. This should allow new and old players alike a chance at some very good gear from any boss,

I am also happy to announce we have sucessfully uncapped post 40 mele damage. So now meles are truly on par with casters in terms of being essentially unlimited. In addition to the increased exp cap (see 2 posts above), this could get even more interesting than it already is.

Well today is our six month anniversary of being live. I would just like to say thank you to all who have been involved, from players, to DMs, to Devs (builders and scripters), to forum consultants, and of course our host. Thank you everyone so much! This project would not have made it this far with out you all.

Cheers everyone, here is to hoping for another great 6 months, and hopefully many more.

Sincerely,
Lazarus Magni

Thought I would mention a few things...

We recently got another nice new addition. We not have a persistant loot divider store, whereby when a PC divides an item it gets sent to 1 of 2 stores depending on it's GP value. These items are stored in the DB, and persist through resests, and allow PCs access to gear looted by other players (one man/woman's trash is another's treasure concept)

I would also like to adress a few common questions I have encountered:

1) "Unlimited levels? Well you have played Aventia for over 8 years and your highest is only lvl 225 or so. What timeframe can I expect to get a truly high level toon?" Well yes it's true, my highest is only 225, however I have a stable of toons, 3 100-200+, 1 200+, and a handfull of 40-100, and another handfull of 1-40. Plus sadly, half my gaming time (if not more) is spent doing aDMin stuff. Also, back in Av1 the exp cap was 150 on regular spawns, on Av2 it was 250, currently it is 500, and 10,000 on bosses.

We have one player who has been here 3-4 months, and concentrating on one toon mostly has reached 300+ in that time frame. And that's considering the fact that the first 2-3 months he was playing, the xp cap on spawns was 300.

2) "Your Quest Point (QP) system... You mentioned you went through a 4 year stretch of only getting 20 or so QP? How long will it take me to get some truly nice gear in you mod?" Well, yep that's true too. Now that we have the QP shard system in though, they are alot easier to get (no longer dependant on DM events/Quests.) Also back on Av2 the QP shard drop rate solo was 5% from bosses, on Av3 it is 50%, and increases with additional party members in the area. That same player who achieved 300+ in 3-4 months, also got a full set of custom 12 QP items in that time frame (at 12 QP per one 12 QP item that's 132 QP, in 3-4 months... and that's not considering the fact that he may have spent some on other toons, or QP services.) Granted he put in a ton of work, but it's certainly possible for a serious gamer, and for the casual types... you don't have to go a couple years to get one item, you can easily get some good gear quickly too.

Of course as usual, we have had a number of new developments. I won't get into them all here now. But I would like to point out one significant aspect of this server that has perhaps been overlooked.

It is trully a community endevor. True, I have final veto power, since I am the current owner/host, however the number of community submissions to Av3 in the last 7 months since I have been hosting have been more than in the last 5 years of Aventia's history I believe. It is trully a world of our own making.

Furthermore RL monatary donations contribute to the PW, and the only thing that does is our great community's (and the nwn 1 community at large in some instances) time and effort.

For me as a player those are atributes I am proud to represent as a PW owner. Not to mention a world that is unlimited on so many levels which is a novel and innovative approach to NWN. An approach that has kept me hooked for almost a decade now.

It is the complete anti-thesis to WoW (I have never been a fan of pay to play [I already bought the game] and even less so pay to win), and yet the perfect gaming model if bioware (or some other game dev) had the vision. No Not Aventia necesarially (although yes it rocks), but nwn 1 in general, and it's almost decade long (and hopefully more) playability. Bioware gave the players the framework, and the players took off with it.  By the players, for the players.

Cheers all.

Laz

This question is prolly better suited for the technical support forum:
http://social.biowar...egory/187/index

I am not much of an IT person myself. I do know I used to have issues on my old computer loading areas with very large maps. It would sort of just hang about 3/4 the way through loading.

You could try running NWN in compatibility mode for windows XP, but I have no clue if that would help. I strongly reccomend posting in the tech support boards though, someone would be likely able to offer you better advice.

Well so as usual, Av3 has had a number of updates which are documented in the community submissions, and change log threads. If any one is interested they can check those.

However one major change recently has been our module balancing attempt. Many if not most of our customizations have lead to vastly increased PC strength, and this has only transferred to a certain extent to NPCs. As a result the module grew soft compared to PCs. Our recent updates changed all this dramatically to balance things in terms of mod vs PC.

As to be expected, this was a bold move for a PW. And indeed it resulted in some players leaving due to them preferring things being easy. But I say, if there is no challenge, what is the point? I still play on a regular basis as a player, and I welcome the challenge personally, and although no doubt it is more difficult, it is also no doubt equally more rewarding.

Av3 is still incredibly epic. It is the only mod around that I know of that has the potential to take a PC from lvl 5-2013, and scales appropriately. That being said our highest lvl players have only achieved lvl 400ish (so essentially with a PC lvl cap of 2013 it is unlimited, hence the name), and subsequently that's the area range of the mod (lvl 5-400.) But we have room for growth, and if we ever have the need, can easily add areas, and content for higher lvl toons.

We are what we are. We are not a RP server (although that is not excluded if some players ever wanted to engage in that), we are not a PvP server (although pvp is allowed with some restrictions, it rarely occurs these days except between friends due to the cooperative nature of our player base), we are an epic world with unlimited potential for PCs, that is no doubt equally challenging and rewarding.

For a game that is almost 10 years old now, we are what you would expect. Almost 10 years worth of development, and refinement, which is on going to this day. Log in, get challenged, rewarded, interested, involved, and continue the proud tradition and gaming experience which is nwn 1 Aventia.

Signing out, your’s truly,
Lazarus Magni

hiya mate me again.I was just wondering if you are planning to add more quests in the future?Being an old stager like myself i need a purpose in life.Exploration is great and fulfilling but sometimes can be frustrating.Ya could do large quests for keys(or portal gems) ta access larger and higher level areas to help ya continue your play.Only a query mind although it could add another dimension and attract other kind of players. After all unlimited quests PINCH ME PLEASE............

Hi Mallyh,
This would be some great feedback on our boards.
Try posting there in the ideas thread.

We do have 4 DMs, and do run quests and events sometimes. The mod is set up for all types of events (like a CTF arena, multiple pvp arenas, a carnival, and all sorts of other things), and we have run a number of different types of quests, from story based, light role play, hide and seek, bounty, missions, ect... and I actually love quests, and events, but often it is hard to find players interested in them. I haven't offered one in a lil while for this reason, but if there is the interest, I certainly will again.

I found as a player the mods with the greatest quests and storylines usually end up around 9.2 to 9.8 out of 10 rating some were even good enough to be official campaigns. Only mentioning the word quests in the mod description was enough to peak my intrest i am sure there are alot more players who love questing out there.Hell there maybe even some standalone mod builders intrested in multi.I know some of them tried nwn2 multi but found it too restricting. As for the quest side ya could make main quest available only after lvl 40 thats wher uber items really count..took me 5 mins to kill a chicken the other day.

Ahh you meant persistant quests. As I mentioned to you on the internal boards, there are a number of these at low level, but Av3 really isn't story based (hence it is under action.) I am not opposed to adding more of these elements if community members want to contribute them however.

hey laz just thinking about your getting rid of physical damage bonuses maybe ya can enforce it ta say toons over 170 levels where they would be pretty much established and the drop in damage bonus wouldnt be felt so much................just a thought..........if the cap fits its manpower
