It's pretty cool, but I found it a bit... odd?... at first. I don't really know what the word is, sorta creepy. Just all the zombies and mortuary stuff and a lot of the Planescape stuff wasn't really my cup of tea. Once I got into it I was able to forget all that and just enjoy its many good points, though. I haven't played it much recently because I've been back no-reloading BG now that I've got TuTu set up (no-reloading BG with TuTu and Sword Coast Stratagems is tough - not to mention throwing in mods like Hard Times and Item Randomiser) but I might go and play a bit further on. Of course, all this playing is not doing wonders for my building, which is why it's pretty much stopped at the moment. When I snatch awhile on my PC I just don't feel in the mood for something as involved as that at the moment. I wouldn't worry because I always end up going back to building in the end, I just have big phases where I do different things. I would like to get a demo of the Dragon Dynasty out in the forseeable furture, though.

With PS:T I was hooked in the first 5 minutes of play. It definately is a little darker than most games, but was a breath of fresh air with its creativity. I have never tried BG with add-ons. I am a little leery of loading BG back onto my computer. I have so little time that I a spending modding, if I add that game I'll be a lost cause.

That's kinda what happened to me. I don't know how they can say the NWN2 community is dead when even BG is still going so strong.

I love IE games as much as the next guy around here but I really think nwn2 has tremendously more potential for longevity. With modding still being done for those old classics I really don't see nwn2 dying in a long while yet.

Thankfully we have dedicated modders and model makers working to improve the game, by ironing out many of the bugs and gradually replacing some of the horrendously bad models that ship with it. Adonnay's weapon replacements are infinitely better than the original clunky legoland weapons, for instance, and I'm looking forward to a (ridable!) horse model that doesn't look like it was beaten soundly with an ugly stick.

Without the NWN2 content community, the game might be dead already.

Eguintir Eligard does have a point though. Perhaps if less people were producing enormous epics (some of which might die before being finished), and more were producing short but good quality modules (like Jezla9's mini-modules Humble Beginnings and Lowena), then modules would be trickling into the community at a faster rate.

I'd be just as happy playing ten good one-hour modules as I would playing a single ten-hour module - especially as the chances of the former being well-polished and bug-free are probably greater than for the epic alternative.

I've put my money where my mouth is with Shaar Moan - an hour's worth of crotch-grabbing chimp-worrying fun for all ages.

It's a good way to work. It is most certainly the way I would want to do things once Tales from the Lake is complete.

Honestly, now that NWN 2 is on Steam for, what? 10-20 bucks? I wouldn't be surprised if there was a small increase in the online population of the game. There are other NWN forum communities out there, these forums are not really for players as it is builders and scripters. I personally have already turned two other people onto the game now that it's cheap and available through steam. They're both loving it and won't be leaving any time soon.

I've also noticed many people who used to play returning to check out the lay of the land.

NWN 1, I think, still does better population-wise, but it's a much friendlier game for older systems and NWN 2 doesn't exactly run the greatest even on some modern machines. The toolset was also simpler, more user friendly and just generally accessible and usable to a wider array of people. I sort of wish that NWN 2 had had its own CEP pack that was standard among today's PW's. CEP just made life simpler in general, not to mention added a ton of great custom content to PW's.

Well, the CEP is a whole nother matter (personally, I prefer the way Pain's Monster Pack is set up, amongst other things). However it does have to be said that I've kind of taken a holiday from NWN2 modding recently and, well, without me, I'm not surprised that the community is languishing a bit. ;-)

I'd chalk it up to Christmas Dinners and holiday laziness, though; communities don't thrive over Christmas, they eat, drink and sleep. Hopefully some cool things will happen soon, though.

There was a recent 5€ sale, and I've seen a few people coming to a PW I use to lurk. It always happens when there's any of these sales, though these players in concrete didn't stay (not that it's a highly populated server mind you, that turns off some people).

If they're playing somewhere else, or modules, or have already moved to other games, I don't know. I guess there's all kind of examples around.

I'll still be here when the dust settles. I'm (slowly) working, and I know I cannot wait to be done(and, perhaps, play some other fine adventures).

What I would like to know is, what are other people who enjoy computer-based Dungeons & Dragons type gaming going to play? I'm not talking about the latest graphics intense/showy/flashy semi-RPG title that happens to be hyped by the industry. I mean, people looking for the kind of intricate ruleset, detailed world and adventuring party environment, that only a game like NWN2 can deliver.

I think the audience for this genre has always been niche, and so it is reasonable to expect at this stage, the community supporting this style of gaming would necessarily be small.

But I don't see where else such people are gonna go. Not if they want something with substance, something to sink their teeth into. The best option out there is to jump into the community created campaigns, or the other multi-player options NWN2 offers.

Harumph!

I don't see any game like that at all. I *really* try to like other games--honest!--but I genuinely enjoy the play these style of Crpgs offer. Old at heart, perhaps. I suspect Dorateen is right: the market is niche. I wish there was an advertising menu, or some way we could attract individuals. Not necessarily for modding, though that might be nice, but just for being informative, interesting players. That's all I, and likely others, are particularly looking for.

Just so long as the people playing are happy that's what matters and I agree Dorateen there isn't any real substitute and probably never will be as developers are just hunting for the next quick buck shooter/slasher that will appeal to the masses until they've made a profit big enough.

Personally I'm going to make a big module, if it takes me 3 years so be it I don't care I happen to like using the toolset and if I want to do it it's up to me. I have to admit the rantings of Mr Eligard did spur me on quite a lot to reopen the toolset in defiance of being told not to and to give up.

One module down so far no idea how many more, where the story's going, what happens don't know but what I do know is that I'm thoroughly enjoying myself and that it's pretty much writing itself because of that. Oh yes and it's for monks my favourite !

Monks! I love monks. I liked how NWN1 made them super-powerful, but they are still a really interesting class in NWN2. More power to you Tsongo! Keep on building. Of course, after Serene, no one is surprised to hear that you favour monks.

Don't forget the DAO toolset. But it's true that what you can do with DAO isn't the same as what you can do with NWN2.

I've never played DA, but it looks like a solid game. The draw of NWN2 for me is the dungeons and dragons world and such.

M.Reider.. Was it that obvious I liked monks ;) I noticed they tend to get forgotten when I played a few mods so I was inspired started fiddling and I'm back on the rollercoaster. The only problem monks have is alignment changes ( I had to use the console in the OC to reinstate myself as one ) so they wont be included but it should be a high kicking super fast chopping slice of total madness when it's done.

As for DA it's alright but I didn't bother with part 2 or anything else because I just didn't like the way the story went. As for the combat well I've never cheated or used a console so much in my life it was the only way I could survive.

Shalina.. You do of course realise that your future presentation could be responsible for a massive resurrection in NWN2 play and I'd be surprised if it wasn't..

Monks don't mesh so well with the "quasi-medieval fantasy setting" of most D&D games... of most RPGs, to be honest. I can however promise you not only monks but monk fighting styles, monk feats, monk PrCs, and also sai, tonfa, claw blades and brass knuckles. Also ninjas, but when they are forgotten it's because they want to be, and erase the memory of their passing from the minds of mere mortals.

Lol @ Fred, but hes right, Monks dont blend well. In my Mod im trying to bring it out of your typical  D&D my self, so finding a place for Monk-->Tonfa-->Claws
Ninja--> Kunai Knives--->Daggers is becoming a chanllenge with out dragging the game into something different.

I've also thought of that, once i finish the First two parts of  social.bioware.com/project/3974/
Rather then making it on big mod, i've split it in 5 parts my self. Although i've had to redo it numerous of times, its making it's way to the community. With new and better screen shots:wizard::D:wizard:
