I love IE games as much as the next guy around here but I really think nwn2 has tremendously more potential for longevity. With modding still being done for those old classics I really don't see nwn2 dying in a long while yet.
Thankfully we have dedicated modders and model makers working to improve the game, by ironing out many of the bugs and gradually replacing some of the horrendously bad models that ship with it. Adonnay's weapon replacements are infinitely better than the original clunky legoland weapons, for instance, and I'm looking forward to a (ridable!) horse model that doesn't look like it was beaten soundly with an ugly stick.
Without the NWN2 content community, the game might be dead already.

Eguintir Eligard does have a point though. Perhaps if less people were producing enormous epics (some of which might die before being finished), and more were producing short but good quality modules (like Jezla9's mini-modules Humble Beginnings and Lowena), then modules would be trickling into the community at a faster rate.
I'd be just as happy playing ten good one-hour modules as I would playing a single ten-hour module - especially as the chances of the former being well-polished and bug-free are probably greater than for the epic alternative.
I've put my money where my mouth is with Shaar Moan - an hour's worth of crotch-grabbing chimp-worrying fun for all ages.

I've also noticed many people who used to play returning to check out the lay of the land.
NWN 1, I think, still does better population-wise, but it's a much friendlier game for older systems and NWN 2 doesn't exactly run the greatest even on some modern machines. The toolset was also simpler, more user friendly and just generally accessible and usable to a wider array of people. I sort of wish that NWN 2 had had its own CEP pack that was standard among today's PW's. CEP just made life simpler in general, not to mention added a ton of great custom content to PW's.

I'd chalk it up to Christmas Dinners and holiday laziness, though; communities don't thrive over Christmas, they eat, drink and sleep. Hopefully some cool things will happen soon, though.

If they're playing somewhere else, or modules, or have already moved to other games, I don't know. I guess there's all kind of examples around.

I think the audience for this genre has always been niche, and so it is reasonable to expect at this stage, the community supporting this style of gaming would necessarily be small.
But I don't see where else such people are gonna go. Not if they want something with substance, something to sink their teeth into. The best option out there is to jump into the community created campaigns, or the other multi-player options NWN2 offers.
Harumph!

Personally I'm going to make a big module, if it takes me 3 years so be it I don't care I happen to like using the toolset and if I want to do it it's up to me. I have to admit the rantings of Mr Eligard did spur me on quite a lot to reopen the toolset in defiance of being told not to and to give up.
One module down so far no idea how many more, where the story's going, what happens don't know but what I do know is that I'm thoroughly enjoying myself and that it's pretty much writing itself because of that. Oh yes and it's for monks my favourite !

As for DA it's alright but I didn't bother with part 2 or anything else because I just didn't like the way the story went. As for the combat well I've never cheated or used a console so much in my life it was the only way I could survive.
Shalina.. You do of course realise that your future presentation could be responsible for a massive resurrection in NWN2 play and I'd be surprised if it wasn't..

Monks don't mesh so well with the "quasi-medieval fantasy setting" of most D&D games... of most RPGs, to be honest. I can however promise you not only monks but monk fighting styles, monk feats, monk PrCs, and also sai, tonfa, claw blades and brass knuckles. Also ninjas, but when they are forgotten it's because they want to be, and erase the memory of their passing from the minds of mere mortals.Iveforgotmypassword wrote...
I noticed [monks] tend to get forgotten when I played a few mods so I was inspired started fiddling and I'm back on the rollercoaster.
More power to the monk!

What I would like to know is, what are other people who enjoy computer-based Dungeons & Dragons type gaming going to play? I'm not talking about the latest graphics intense/showy/flashy semi-RPG title that happens to be hyped by the industry. I mean, people looking for the kind of intricate ruleset, detailed world and adventuring party environment, that only a game like NWN2 can deliver.
the classics like gold box games, IE games, toee and newer stuff like knights of the chalice.
and don't forget that the IE games've got editors too^^

Lol @ Fred, but hes right, Monks dont blend well. In my Mod im trying to bring it out of your typical D&D my self, so finding a place for Monk-->Tonfa-->Claws
Ninja--> Kunai Knives--->Daggers is becoming a chanllenge with out dragging the game into something different.

Don't forget the DAO toolset. But it's true that what you can do with DAO isn't the same as what you can do with NWN2.
I really need to get DAO for the PC, i really want try out its toolset

It's a good way to work. It is most certainly the way I would want to do things once Tales from the Lake is complete.

I've also thought of that, once i finish the First two parts of social.bioware.com/project/3974/
Rather then making it on big mod, i've split it in 5 parts my self. Although i've had to redo it numerous of times, its making it's way to the community. With new and better screen shots:wizard:
