Beyond the Pale is still there. I have noticed a significant decrease in bot spam recenly. I'm hoping they have it under control. Don't know about resetting passwords though. You can try to conact beyond the pale. He has always been responsive to my requests.

As far as I'm concerned, the biggest threat to this community right now is the state of the vault. I've been unable to reset my P/W so I can't vote on PJ's latest mod or any of the other great work still sitting out there. That and the spam bots have gotten so bad some threads are almost unreadable. Are there any mods on duty at the vault anymore?

Like M.R says, email Beyone The Pale. They are working on the spamming I know from one of his mails to me.

Looking forward to that Vote Image IPB. I love to get votes and comments good and bad.

Ok I guess I will clarify for all those in doubt:
The community is not dead. :P
I know it may shock some people but it is true. :o

I have the same problem as GCoyote and Beyondthepale hasn't replied me yet (I contacted him two weeks ago or more). I've heard that he's pretty busy in real life at the moment, but in that case they should use someone else to run the site (I don't mean changing him, but using more people).

So, what do we think of Skyrim? Haven't played it. I've seen youtubes on it. It reminds me of Two Worlds, which is not necessarily bad, but not what I'm in the mood for now. Obviously, we will miss the features that NWN2 has and Skyrim does not have. What bothers me most acutely is that the game appears slow. I'm reall really tired of slow. It's especially inexcusable if the game has pause. Not having MP is a big flaw for me. I already have The entire DA and ME series. I bought Battlefield 3 yesterday, and within the past 2 months, I've bought Rage, Killing Floor and The Haunted: Hell's Reach.

The spellcasting system seems interesting. Reminds me of Majika because you can combine spells. Although, Majika lets you combine up to 4 basic spells to produce higher spell effects.

I will be waiting for bargain pricing before trying Skyrim, myself. After tiring of Oblivion and Morrowind after several years, I found I prefer party-based RPGs, not solo ones. That's what brought me here.

Oh boy. I have some bad news for you then. This community is dead. In fact, I think there is a thread about that somewhere around here. You could probably turn it up if you did a search.

Undead modders means no sleep means faster mod production, right?

Right, but you also have to figure slower building due to the falling off of rotting digits and the constant breaks to wander about aimlessly moaning "voooooootesssss!  doooooooownloooooooaaaads. VOOOOOOOOTESSSSS, DOOOOOOOOOOWNLOOOOOOAAAAAADS!!"

Have you factored in the time needed to look for BRAINS. And undeaths effect on npc conversations and storylines?

Mayor Bleargh: Gah Blah BRAINs?
Pc: Yes, I should get you some brains.
Pc: Why don't I pop my helmet off and you can commence with the feasting.

What's that? Is it another game? I saw some stuff come up on the vault but I thought they were toothpaste adverts.

I have no burning urge to play it right away, although I will want to eventually. I'm highly tempted to wait for a while until all the Skyrim extras come out and they release an Nth anniversary edition. Right now I'm playing Oblivion with multiple mods and choosing a different path; going for a new experience. It's interesting how the once fairly mind-blowing graphics now seem rather mundane (by comparison with recent game releases). Next I'm going to try the new Witcher 2 release, which I've heard good things about. Still not quite the RP gaming experience I want though; I need that party gaming fix.

NWN 1 is still kicking with players, NWN 2 is as well. Not impressive numbers, but it's still the only game of its kind around. As long as I still see half a dozen or more servers with 10+ players on during peak hours I wouldn't call TOD.

What a bizarre topic. I think we all know the community is in decline. No one is denying it. It's been that way since the beginning (although a lot congregate elsewhere and don't post here at all). But why worry about it. We get little injections of people every once in a while with steam sales or bioware fallout. That's fine.

But there are still some steadfast modders out there and honestly tonnes of stuff I haven't tried on the vault. There is no need to put this small community out of its misery since there is no misery, only fun. I'm still having a blast and am still being blown away by content by people who moved on like Misery Stone. And I'm seriously looking forward to the completed Icewind Dale.

Cripes, I bet people are still modding for Baldur's Gate. There is no reason to put them out of their "missery" if they're still loving it. We just need to tell those who get jaded to take a break and come back when they're recharged. Until something better comes out, why leave?

Its also sorta ironic that this is a hot topic with 10 pages.

They are.  classic Adventures is still being updated, and the forum for it has been having activity pretty regularly since I've been watching it.  And I released a portrait mod for Planescape: Torment earlier this year.

I'd venture to suggest Baldur's Gate is actually more active. The current No-Reload Challenge thread (just the BG1 one) is at 149 pages at the time of writing (though admittedly it gets a bit bloated with screenshots, so it grows quickly). Also if you haven't heard of GemRB yet, you have now (it's an open-source version of the infinity engine which, though not finished, lets you play all the IE games). You can play a Monk/Sorcerer with a bit of wizardry!

That said, the G3 forums just seem to have gone down, which is a bummer. With the Citadel gone and the Vault in its current state, it looks like the old game sites are dropping like flies. Bad times.

I imagine if Eguintir is still reading this he's shaking his head at our completely missing his point. However, I think he's missed ours. I would actually count myself amongst those who've left the NWN2 community... more than once. I often move on to other things, but then have always moved back again. Right now I've not done any real modding for a good few weeks at least, but then I haven't done any juggling for even longer. It doesn't mean I can't do Mill's Mess when required, though. ;-)

G3 has been up/down for the past week or so, due to bot spam on the forums. It's not going anywhere.

What is this current state?  I've been haunting the Vault with regularity for the past month or two, and created a profile there on the 12th of September.  All went smoothly.  I've created two portfolios since then, and I'm seeing new content being added to the front page all the time.  I haven't seen any problems.

I've been an almost daily reader and regular voter/commenter (under a different name) of the Vault since the early days of NWN1. The current state is that most contributor's threads have been overrun with bot spam and nothing has been done about it for months. It seems like no one is in charge. I'm wondering if I should download everything I think I might even remotely want before the Vault goes the way of the Citadel. If it does, that might be the blow that actually kills this community. I'm not criticizing anyone, just pointing out the obvious.

Please excuse a non-modder offering an opinion in your subforum, but if nobody can download your mods the "community" becomes a small group of inbred hobbyists.

Ah yes. I have seen the comment spam, and that is a problem. But I see that kind of spam on just about every site where it's possible to post comments (including healthy ones), so I wouldn't assume it to be a sign of impending destruction. I also see it being cleaned up. It would be nice if there were a way for users or the uploaders to just click a "mark this as spam" button on those, though, like on Youtube.

That's good to know. I need my IESDP!

Regarding the Vault, it seems to be working OK, but the gradual accumulation of the spam *is* something of an issue, just because it gives the impression that the place is gradually sinking under a horde of parasitic posts. If there were only some sort of filter or report button, as mentioned, that would help a lot. It's pretty obvious what's spam and what's not, so it shouldn't be too hard for them to deal with it, I think it's just the man-hours required.

Luckily most of my submissions only have a few votes so have escaped the spamming, by and large. Image IPB

I asked for that feature months ago and the response I got was they were working on something to solve the spam problem.  Clearly it hasnt been solved.

Finding the Decanter of Endless Grog is the life quest of every dwarf that ever lived. :P

Aww man I was just going to make the Bottomless Jug/Decanter of Endless Liquid of Your Choice joke...
But then I have just gotten the command word for said Decanter on PS:T. Now to put Ignus out!

EDIT: I haven't done this yet! No spoilers please! Image IPB

Just came across the official wondrous item: "Cask of Liquid Gold" in the Adventurer's Vault 2 4e Game Supplement (p. 79). The description is "This cask contains a never-ending supply of dwarven ale." And a bargain at only 680 gp. I'll point out though that this is a more dangerous item than it first appears. While it is refilled automatically at the start of each day, which any dwarf would greatly appreciate, any ale taken from it evaporates if it has not been consumed when the cask refills. I can envision hard-partying dwarves getting very irritated when their mugs of ale are suddenly dry at daybreak.

I'd be afraid of being off-topic, but since the community is dead I'm really only talking to myself anyway. So who should care if I'm a little off-topic.

Regards

I still haven't put Ignus out, but I've been doing things in the Lower Ward. Haven't played it much recently, but I gave that guy who likes skulls a different skull so I could get Morte back.
