So this gets incredibly f*cked up when people are trying to judge what's "healthy" for them. A girl will have a high %body fat and freak out, even though it's well within the normal range for women, and the Body Mass Index tends to tell dirty rotten lies about whether or not a man is "overweight."
I concur.
Ignore BMI. It was invented by a mentally deficient Belgian screwball some 2 centuries ago or so, with no actual basis in any real science or math.
Blasted luddites who call themselves "doctors" today still use this unmodified idiotic system.
I'm 5'4, 135 lbs with very low body fat and relatively high muscle mass in my legs (bicycle courier.. crap job but keeps one healthy... until you get run over anyway)... if I were to follow the BMI I'd be classified as borderline overweight.. which is insane in my case since I have almost no fat (I'm a damn twig except for in my legs due to all the cycling).
Ignore the BMI... it doesn't take into account many important factors... bone density for one. It's fallacy to think there's an "average" bone density for each gender... it scales vastly based on the individual, ethnicity, genetics, etc. and the BMI ignores this fact completely.
That's my recommendation anyway. Now take two of these and call me in the morning. Oh and here's your lollipop.
