I really felt that the trial of Tali by the Migrant Fleet really brought to life the element of the Mass Effect universe that is the Quarian race. A race that has had a profound effect on the council races with the creation of the Geth, and as punishment now face an unforcertain future. Mass Effect at its best.

Yes it was very good and is Mass Effect's take on Battlestar Galactica :o) Later on in the game you'll discover some revelation about the Geth too. I won't spoil it but it's a great story arc that may well run into ME3...

Tali's loyalty mission is my favorite mission in the game. It's one of the few missions that shows the full range of emotions for a character.

Koris vas Quib Quib Tell me someone else has asked about his ship name and got the joke... Absolute gold

It's something I think Bioware needs to seriously do more of; bringing the cultures and beliefs of the many races and orders into the story. Not through some random codex entries that only a handful read, but actually engaging, theatrical scenes that draw the player into that little slice of the galaxy.

Maybe if they announce that, then ME3 won't scare me so much.

I agree. Most of the LMs were really well done and IMO built the main storyline of the game rather than the collector plot. Talis definitely stands out though, as does Legions IMO.
And BentOrgy is right. more in-depth coverage of alien cultures through direct interaction can only be a good thing. I have high hopes that we'll see a fair amount of that in ME3 since we are supposed to go to several home worlds.

Late to the party, but I also agree- Tali's LM was one of my favorites, followed by Thane and Garrus's.

Not a big Tali fan nor of the quarians, but the mission was well designed/written. It had the best combo of roleplaying in the trial and combat. The other LM were weak on story/roleplay.

I didn't like Quarians much in Mass Effect 1 for some reason. I didn't find Tali very uhm... I don't know, her personality... lacked personality? I can't quite explain, I didn't dislike her, but she didn't do much for me.

Then Mass Effect 2 came out and Tali's grown up character started to show. And without even realising she became one of my favourite characters. Actually she's my favourite companion after Liara. I even forgot how much I "didn't care about her" in ME 1. Replaying ME 1 after ME 2 also made me look at her differently.

And her loyalty mission in ME 2 is definitely my favourite. It's very emotional and if you are a Paragon you really get to connect with her. I also find the voice actress is awesome, she's very expressive and brings Tali to life.

The irony is that Admiral Zaal'Koris, who was such a hateful bastard during Tali's trial, will probably end up most people side with in ME3.  And we'll wind up killing Admiral Han'Gerrel who was the one on her side, but we all knew that as soon as he opened his mouth and Simon Templeman's voice came out.  I imagine we'll get a choice of which admiral to side with in ME3 and help their plan to deal with the Geth.  Koris wants to make peace with them, Gerrel wants to wipe them out, and Daro'Xen wants to hax0rz their sentience away and re-enslave them.

It was probably my favorite loyalty mission, and perhaps one of the strongest missions in the game overall. Had a little bit of everything.

Agree with some comments about Tali in ME1... she was a little bit "flat" in that one. More depth in ME2, not just a quick reference on Quarian culture. Sort of surprised that anyone really liked Tali all that much from that game, and was somewhat surprised when I later learned so many people loved her and wished she had been a LI. Oh well, I didn't really think much of Liara in that game either. She was more interesting after ME2 and LOTSB as well.

Illara's speech was annoying in ME1. Like she took a Hanar class on speaking etiquette. In ME2, she seemed more informal and less naive, which I liked.

I liked Tali's LM a lot too, but Grunt's is my favorite. Nothing like bringing in the renegade wrecking crew of him and Zaeed or Jack and battling it out gladiator style.

IMO, hands down, Mordin's was the best. Everyone deals with the loss of a father. Mordin ****ing killed millions of people, if you push the dialogue when encountering the Krogan female... I just played that part again and it is astounding. Mordin doesn't break down and cry, but that mission affects him in an extremely powerful way. That 'processing emotions quickly' thing is garbage, he's clearly still haunted by what he's done years later. It was brilliant because it was all so subtle, and one of those times when there isn't a clear right/wrong path.

How I rank the loyalty missions:

Mordin - stunning.
Jacob - short, but really well done.
Legion - the atmosphere is great, and the choice you have to make...
Jack - another incredibly emotional one.
Kasumi - took me by surprise, but I loved every second of it.
Tali - who doesn't love Quarian hugs?
Grunt - visually intense with an uplifting end, what's not to like?
Zaeed - so many plot twists...
Samara - I really dislike Samara, but her loyalty mission was pretty cool.
Thane - a good story told poorly.
Miranda - they sacrificed storytelling and emotion for firefights.
Garrus - honestly I found this one very forgettable.

Mordin's mission always irritates me because of the dialogue choices.

*selects paragon dialogue*
Shepard: You're a a worse version of Hitler, Mordin!

*grumbles, reloads, selects renegade*
Shepard: It's a shame that salarians don't live longer than goldfish. You deserve to suffer long time, Mordin.

Son of a... *selects neutral option, asking if anyone wants coffee*
Shepard: Anyone want coffee? Mordin can brew it with the millions of aborted krogan babies he has trapped in everlasting torment.

I don't even do any of the optional dialogue in the mission because it's virtually impossible not to pass judgment on him.

I didn't like that either. My Shep actually would have agreed with him if that would have been an option.

I agree with Tali's LM being awesome. Very good writing, leaves cool possibilities for ME3.

sorry for being a bit OT...but I'm currently replaying the game, this time to romance Tali.

I haven't reached her LM yet, but so far, I've always picked renegade conversation options to EVERYONE except Tali; I recall getting a healthy paragon boost when I allowed veetor to go with tali and when I recruited Tali. But everything else, it's all renegade.

Will I have the option to do a paragon interrupt when Tali sees her father?

Thanks

One sure way to find out; play the game.

Or you can stop being a jerk to everyone else, if you're that worried about it. ;p

Haha. So much for my "role play" attempt to be an all aroudn douchebag who softens up to Tali.

<- got so paranoid in my first playthrough I made her escort the crew back to the Normandy; that way, won't have to worry about Tali getting swarmed/falling down/getting shot. I'll probably do it again in this playthrough :D

 I know the feeling there; my first playthrough was pretty much an excersise in how OCD I could be. But I am proud to say that I beat it with all crew members alive and kicking. Whee!

And maybe Bioware just wanted to keep things simple? Black and white; you're either an ass, or a marshmallow? :wizard:

I ususally RP iit as Shep being judgmental at first until Mordin lists the methods by which he has killed that exclude Medicine.  Meeting Malon helps, Seeing soneone so obsessed with salving his guilt he's willing to hand the galaxy to Blood Pack Mercs ...it really gets you thinking about how much healthier Mordin's point of view is.

Pfft. So much for being the "jerk" who gave a Quarian hug. :(

alright, for the next tali fan, I've answered my own question for you :D

So far, I've gone renegade in almost ALL conversations except...

1) gave veetor to tali (the first mission)
2) be nice to miranda AFTER her Loyalty mission
3) convince the asari to marry her krogan bf
4) be nice to EVERY CONVERSATION with Tali.

Anyhows, even a LITTLE amount of paragon points will still bring out that paragon prompt when Tali sees her father; I should know, my shepard's practically a T-800 with his scars and red eyes and eh still managed to hug Tali.

In all of my play thrus my male shepards lie and say that there was no evidence just so that I can get her exiled but at the same time get her loyalty. I do this intentionally so that from that point on Tali belongs to A.) the Normandy and B) Belongs to all of my Shepards including the shepard she is romancing.
