I wouldn't have any interest in playing a Qunari. I find their ideology utterly abhorrent.

I also don't believe their culture would stand up to close scrutiny. It requires a big suspension disbelief to accept that it functions at all.

Is very close to comunism, work hard for someone also, never have anything for you'reself and is someone also fault that you have nothing at all. isn't that wonderful? rofl.

The average "freedom loving", liberal, hippie, westerner wouldn't know how to (or want to) properly role-play a qunari.

As a liberal western I can easily say this is incorrect. I'd love to play as a Qunari or a Tevinter Magister. I do not require my role-played characters to be paragons of my ideals.

Seconded.

Actually the living conditions of the average qunari is never explicity stated. But judging from how the qunari run their society like clockwork it can be assumed that most qunari would fit into the middle-class; maybe slightly richer or poorer depending on their occupation.

Remember the qunari waste nothing and abhore greed, they would split the wealth evenly. At least in theory.

if they would make DA 3 with origins i would love if you could choose between human, elf, dwarf and qunari (kossith)

and then you would be able do choose one out of two different qunari stories (like dwarf noble and dwarf commoner). one where you are a faithful qunari and one where you have chosen not to follow the qun.

yes, want Race Selection back, i want to be a horned giant.

Edit: I'm sick of being a human Bioware, i'm human in real life as it is.

I would absolutely love it. The Kossith are a beautiful, powerful race that have such interesting and complex societal demands (they are expected by everyone around them to either follow or reject the Qun, which can create such conflicting emotions for the individuals that deviate from societal expectations), and so it would be amazing to walk in their boots. ^_^

I would like the choice to play as Qunari but personally, I always play as Human first.

That's not to say I was happy we could only play as Human in DA2, I was a little disappointed, but I realise why.
I wouldn't want to have to play as a set race again. I like being able to choose in DA.

no, I find their philosophy, and the hide bound adherance to it, suffocating and ultimately self destructive. Forced to conform or made outcast if you don't? Also, as a mage (my favorite class) I'd be hobbled, collared and rendered mute, my leash and my destiny placed in the hands of another hide-bound, narrowminded Qunari.

No, thanks.

Then don't play as a Qunari. I HATE playing as an elf, but I don't think that having an elf as a playable race is a bad thing.

It's a good conecept, but would be too hard to implement in a game set anywhere other than the lands owned by the Qunari, since it would require too many dialogue changes or changes to the storyline to work. Unless of course the protagonist is a mercenery/prisoner/rebel at the beginning in which case choosing a Qunari outcast might be an option, although it would still require people to frequently comment on your species.

I really want to see more Qunari party members though, and I really hope DA:3 has one. It was something that I really missed in Dragon Age 2.

I didn't say no, they shouldn't include it for anyone else who wants to play a Qunari, I was just voicing my opinion and thoughts as to why I wouldn't want to play one (which is what the OP wanted--people's thoughts on playing one).  If they offered that race as an option *but included all the others* it wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me, I just wouldn't be making a Qunari PC, I'd be making a race more to my liking.

My mistake then, I read the comments about race selection not the OP

would that mean we're limited to just one race, or would the qunari be one of many we could choose from?

Interesting thing is that the reasons you listed would be very interesting reasons for me to play it - it made me want a qunari option the more.

Role-play doesn't mean you'd want to live through the experience in real life - it's more about interest-invoking narrative.

And why would anybody hate playing an elf (is beyond me)?

Kossith. Kossith

The race of giants -- be they horned or hornless -- are called Kossith. Qunari means "People of the Qun". It's an all-encompassing word for anyone that believes in the Qun.

If I were to play as a Kossith, it would have to be given its due. Otherwise, forget it.

I wouldn't say no to a horned female kossith Tal-Vashoth LI that's a Warrior though. Or even Maraas.

What kind of character we play will depend on the story Bioware creates.

i don't see why multiple different characters can't react to the same story fchopin

i have 2 dwarves and a elf, they all had different origins, different combat choices (well, not all that different), and in the 2nd dwarf's case, chose a different major choice in one instance. But the Story for the most part was the same.

thats the appeal of these kinds of RPGs, creating multiple very different characters and reacting differently to the world with said characters.

I don’t think Bioware will be making those kinds of games like in DAO any more but would be happy to be proven wrong.

I think using voice for our character has killed different character choices unless it’s something like Mass Effect.

A Qunari would NEVER say things that a protagonist from another race would say!

A white-haired emo elven slave with amnesia escaped from a powerful Tevinter Magister and wields a massive sword. Oh yeah. And he has lyrium veins grafted onto his skin

...seriously...

Will never happen, because most fans only play as humans. One of the devs pointed out, that in Origins only 12% of people played as a elf, and less than 5% played as a dwarf. The rest all rolled human noble. Most people lack imagination, and only want to pick someone that they can relate to, and that is almost always another human. Kind of sucks for fans who don't like to pick humans, but what can you do?

Someone from Qunari lands where whether or not they respect the Qun is up to me, sure; someone who follows the Qun, no thanks. It's not so much that I think a Qunari would be too stoic to be a protagonist, there's no reason they should all act the same, but I'd rather not be given a strong ideology for my character even if it's only in their past, not without a choice of characters anyway.

Keep posting that many of us still want race options and hope that Bioware considers it? Image IPB

Kossith and Qunari are different though. The former are a race of horned giants and the latter are followers of the Qun, but either way it would still be nice to role-play other races or express other beliefs besides the standard Andrastian Human Noble/Mage.
