Will never happen, because most fans only play as humans. One of the devs pointed out, that in Origins only 12% of people played as a elf, and less than 5% played as a dwarf. The rest all rolled human noble. Most people lack imagination, and only want to pick someone that they can relate to, and that is almost always another human. Kind of sucks for fans who don't like to pick humans, but what can you do?

That's simply false data, as the PC users had the option to turn feedback off, and the more knowledgeable ones (like myself - and I guess it can easily be the majority of PC players) did so (and/or didn't play with DA:O connected to any network).

I wouldn't have any interest in playing a Qunari. I find their ideology utterly abhorrent.

I find the ide aof the game designers determining my PC's ideology abhorrent.

I don't care what care the PC is as long as I control his personality.  Accepting the Qun is not a choice the developers should make for me.

Playing a qunari = forced race, forced gender, forced ideology, and a lack of class choice.

Tell me again how this is a great opportunity for role playing.

It'd still be better then what we got in DA2 and potentially DA3.

At least with those fixed attributes we'd be able to role play a coherent character.

I believe that was for first playthrough, I played my first as a human noble, but then I played through as the other races for subsequent playthroughs

David Gaider posted the percentage of Elf and Dwarf players in Origins. Only 15% of people tried the elf orgins, and only 3% as the dwaf origins. Now you may be right about the data not being correct, if many PC players didn't allow for this to happen. But by how much could the numbers have been effected? 10% maybe 15%. That would still say the most of everyone that played Origins played as a human only. Stuff like this is why we probably didn't get the option in DA2, and only got the lame Hawke family.:pinched:

Sounds like Dragon Age 2, doesn't it?

In all seriousness, you could choose your race, gender and class before even starting the game. Like the Grey Wardens, Qunari consist of men and women of all races and classes that just happen to follow the ideology. Qunari are just followers of the Qun, they don't HAVE to be Sten or Arishok clones. (Why do people still think that?)

I personally see a lot of role-play value in being someone who was raised by the Qun (or converted voluntarily or involuntarily some time before the game's start) but now find themselves in situations where they get to uphold, question or rebel against beliefs and lifestyles that they may or may not have ever even wanted. A female Qunari that chooses to fight, a Saarebas that tires of being treated like a beast in man's skin, a Qunari soldier or laborer that wants to do more with his life than be a drone with a sword or shovel.

Off the top of my head, I can think of three origins:

Non-Mage Female: Any race. Starts out as a peasant or priest who is forced to fight when the Call to Adventure whisks her away and then, through necessity or choice, continues to fight through the rest of the game despite it being against the Qun. May try to reconcile with the Qunari or become Tal-Vashoth.

Non-Mage Male: Any race. Starts out as a member of the Qunari Military, gets the Call to Adventure and explores human lands throughout the game where he may embrace or reject new ideologies or lifestyles. If a Kossith especially, if people expect you to behave like Sten or the Arishok, you can respond any way and prove them right or wrong.

Mage: Male or female of any race. Starts off as a Saarebas who is bound and gagged by the Qunari Military, gets swept up by the Call to Adventure (maybe separated from their Aravaad) and gets to experience freedom and independence for the first time (in a long time). May react to the new choices in any way. Try to redeem themselves to the Qun or become Val-Vashoth.

No matter how you slice it, I can see a heck of a lot more role play value than another whiney human noble or mage.

as an origins choice yes...as a main character...hum---I dunno. On the one hand it would be funny to play a character who does not understand the behaviour and ideals of a non-chantry world...on the other hand, you take away player choice.

Of course, you could play a qunari (and be any race), and the reasons you left the Qun--or stayed true to it and your new-or old ideals could be shaped by the player. This would work well...and it'd be an ununsal origin story...I could get used to the idea.

Sure, as long as it's optional.

If this subject is suggesting that the fixed character of DA3 should be a Qunari with choice of race/gender then...lol. On one topic, I'd love it because if the game was designed around your being a Qunari, then my choice of being a Qunari would be a better experience.

That said, on principle, if I want to be given "the option" to play a Qunari, then other people should be given "the option" not to.

i agree, not saying to FORCE people to be a Kossith (thats probably what the topic creator meant), i think we all just want the option to (as well as elves and dwarves)

I don't think Andrastian human protagonists are in any danger of being forced out of the game, really.

Considering that just having the option of playing other races is just barely looking likely for the next game, I seriously doubt that Bioware would even think of eliminating the race or cultural upbringing that over 80% of players roll with. I'm more worried about being forced to play as another Andrastian human noble. ><

Aslong as its optional, I don't think anyone would have a problem. I believe there would be a problem if you couldn't play as a human though.
