He had a good look, a good attitude (nasty and pompous) and pretty good voice acting. His actions were good until right at the end. He was a sheer and utter ****** in his dealings with the qunari. As soon as the qunari said he had a list of names I expected it to be exactly what it ended up being. ****** propser didn;t even wait to find out if it had any use.

I would be interested to know if he was motion-capture too, though I suspect he was just a detailed character. I liked him. Well, not "liked." I enjoyed him. It's good to have pure human bad sometimes.

Prosper serves the Empress. He is trying to obtain vital information, that would either help his country in the event of a war with the Qunari, or cement them as the strongest nation on Thedas. Entirely understandable motivation. Some of the greatest tragedies in our world has been comitted for less than that.

Technically that wasn't true. He didn't recognize the worth of the names he had. He wanted weapon designs, but got names. He had no idea what he was really holding.

But yes, I played before the big ending of the game but during Act 3. Varic says Prosper was going on and on about the Champion at the Champion of Kirkwall banquet (which shows that Hawke does a lot of stuff off screen) and wanted Hawke at Chateau Haine for a hunt.

What really made him as a good antagonist for me was he suspected Talis, set a trap, made plans, exercised foresight (never once counting on Hawke's ability to get past his traps or his Chasind bodyguard deciding to fight Hawke instead of kowtow to his position and stay next to Prosper.) The Duke constantly maintained a mountain sized arrogance with him, and he honestly did not ever expect to lose at anything. And seeing him trying to outswear Hawke was funny.

And finally, when he does lose, he does not beg for mercy, does not expect it, and even keeps going on, fighting to the bitter end when he knows the fight is lost.

His intentions weren't malicious, or muahahaha I'm evil. It was a high nobleman serving his country.

with a bit of contempt thrown in later on against the "Fereldan turnip".

It's like the Hatfields and the McCoys!

I want to see Tevinter shops run by demons. The Magisters have mastered the demons entirely.

I dont think they use them openly among the populace though =P Even if the tevinter Templars aren't strict etc. they aren't going to allow something like that lol

I suspect the demons are toiling away in the stock rooms of the finer Tevinter emporiums. Doing all of the grunt work, while some smiling magister greets the customers and takes their coin. They're like Santa's elves - only reeking of brimstone and decay.

I also think they're making Imperium cheese.

I hate his name. Prosper. It's not close to anything sounding French or even a real name. These words that Bioware uses, like Prosper, Worthy, Elegant, THESE ARE NOT REAL NAMES!

Yeah but it also comes from the mage in "The Tempest" who is forbiddingly powerful and perhaps EA Poe's Prince Prospero in "The Dance of the Red Death".

Ah, well, now, Duke Prosper... I really rather liked him, as he had "Bond villain" written all over him (Hawke's one-liner at the end just sealed the deal); he reminded me a bit of Hugo Drax, in fact, in characterisation if not in motive.

Baron Arlange was the one who had me properly laughing, though. I kept expecting him to call me a dirty English kerniggut...
