I am just about finished with chapter 2 and downloaded MOTA yesterday. I went to Gamlen's house but could only enter one room. Do I have to wait for CH. 3 for MOTA?

Uh, if you're in Chapter 2, the starting point for the quest (the lion statue) now be in Hawke's mansion. It will only be in Gamlen's house when you're still living there in Act 1.

Though it really doesn't make sense to do MOTA in the first/early second act. Not only will you likely be too low level, but plot wise it only really works sometime after act 2/midway through act 2. Same with Legacy.

I disagree completely, if done at the beginning of act 2, Duke Prosper is a noble who bought a ring from your expedition 3 years prior, given the time jump and how you are nobility again... Act2 makes just as much sense as Act3 for MotA.

And I prefer having Legacy done at the end of Act1 because it makes sense plot-wise to have your sibling with you then. But it could be done any time, really... I just don't like ghost-mommy...

Really, the only one that just feels wrong to have it there is MotA in Act1. You're a nobody... and since I refuse to do that, I don't know what kind of horrible excuse there is for you being invited into the Duke's party.

Yeah, why the hell would Hawke be invited to a dinner party as a peniless peon? The only explanation I can think of is Leandra, who, according to Cyril, had connections to the Montfort family.

I'd say it fits best in the gap between act 2 and 3.  So I'd say shortly after you start act 3.
