The holiday release was just an estimation. And no, it wasn't as stated by Bioware. It was moved to space out their game releases, as well as jump start their Q1 fiscal year.

Levels were not done by Christmas either. Basically the level was in white with limited animations, audio, etc. Programming is also a very broad subject, and is hardly ever done, even by a game's release nowadays (hence why we have patches, even to sp games). The scripts were also far from done...they were in a rather rough and more general format at the time.

Looking at the state of the game so far, I'm glad it is being released in March. Definitely needs a Mr. Miyagi wax and polish. By what I mean, it looks great, but hell do the animations and A.I. need work.

This pretty much. Sometimes I think people confuse "playable" with "releasable".

Mass Effect 3 was delayed to "address a larger market opportunity"... which is EA marketing speak for we don't think Mass Effect 3 can't compete with COD:MW3 + BF3 + TESV:S + AC:R + GOW3 + UC3; especially without multiplayer because apparently focus testing results reveal that gamers these days are all braindead morons whoexpect the same gimmicky generic ****e in every title.

Besides they can't market and release SW:TOR and Mass Effect 3 in the same release window... they'd be practically splitting the marketing budget and customer base in two for both titles.

In my opinion, that is the best assessment yet.

EA has pretty much said they are going to cram multiplayer on to any title they release regardless of context.

Actually, it's far more likely they moved it to march because they happen to be releasing the largest game any Bioware studio has ever produced five days before Christmas, and it would be really stupid to release two high budget, high profile games in the same quarter

Maaan, SW:TOR is a totally different league. MMORPG's are for nerds.

Delaying ME3 really was the right move in a lot of aspects. It doesn't matter if there was a central reason behind it: we may never know, but it's all for the best.

Lies! There have never been trolls on BSN!

Seriously though, the thought that MP is the sole cause of the delay in release date is hilarious.

Nah. Just checkin' ya boys.
Yep. Still good-ol' BullSN.
I'm impresed though. When I'm serious - I'm being accused of trolling right away. When I'm not - it takes a while until someone experienced comes up with the breaking reveal. Take that as a compliment.

Well the game was basically done nearly over a year ago. Its possible they have been polishing it and adding maybe a couple of finishing touches. Also it is highly likely that this year wasn't a good time to release the game. Especially since so many very good games are coming out it would likely take sells away from ME3.

No, he also carefully avoided saying there wouldn't be multiplayer. Every single statement made on the subject prior to "Yes, there is multiplayer" was ambiguous, which is why every single time we got one of those statements, there'd be a flurry of threads arguing over exactly what was meant.  It's also why people would constantly use the quotes in an attempt to prove that there both would and would not be multiplayer.  See that's the thing about ambiguity: the actual meaning is far from clear.

If you believe the Devs, which I do, then no; MP was not the cause of ME3's delay. According to them, MP has been a part of ME3 from the beginning of its development. More than likely, ME3 was delayed because they didn't want to release it at the same time as TOR.

Well, in this case, the "breaking reveal" would be you saying you were fishing for drama within four posts of starting the thread.

Edit: I removed the quote from Casey Hudson and the sensasionalist/inaccurate paraphrase from the site I sourced from.  In that regard, I apologize for my misguided agrument regarding your quote.  Now to continue...

I don't see where the multiplayer falls under "gimmicky" in the way you are using the word.  Another sensasionalist word that has lost its meaning due to over use.  Not many games have a separate multiplayer (not including normal co-op campaigns) that interacts with the campaign directly.  It is a gimmick in that it is innovative to Mass Effect, but again, I'm sure that wasn't your meaning.  Nor is it a money scheme on Bioware's part.  It's just a feature to add to experiment with and see if it works out.  Whether it does or not is yet to be seen.

Yes, EA wants multiplayer to be in every title.  Yes, that's an idiotic marketing standard to force onto developers.  But it is not the reason ME3 was pushed back, at least to that degree.  The second reason you are rather spot on however.

Oh, c'mon man. This is internet, dammit. You gonna sue me for having fun on BSN? It's a social network after all, not just forum.

SURPRISE BUTTSECKS, I am extremely glad ME3 will have MP. See my posting history. The first thing I've done after registering on this forum was creating a thread regarding MP in ME3.

Why are you glad that MP was added?

Because I'm a social gamer. Playing with friends is always better than playing alone. It's stupid to deny that. And it doesn't even matter to me if it's coop or deathmatch. Or even capture the flag. I would've enjoyed any MP mode in the ME universe, excluding MMO.

Here's the actual Riccitello quote:

"Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach," said Riccitiello.

It's wonderfully vague. You can almost read anything you want into it.

Even more likely is that there were a number of factors that went into the decision.  It's certainly possible MP was one of those factors, but we'll never know unless some sort of Bioware equivalent to the Watergate scandal occurs.
