Hi,

I cannot find my save game files for my many hours of gameplay for Jade Empire, the folder C:/program fies/jade empire/save is empty and hidden file are visble.  Nor is it in any steam folder.

I need to restore pc to factory settings as it is so slow but cannot proceed before backing up these files, endless googling has shown no results.

If anyone has any ideas, please help!

I gotta ask this first: Can you see (and load) those saves from within the game?

Yes, I have hundreds of saves that all work perfectly for all characters within the game, I just cannot find where the game has saved these files.

I was thinking of searching for the file name extension but couldn't find out what file type the files would be saved as. Might this work if I new the correct suffix?

Cheers.

The savepath is:

%Jade Empire%\\Save\\%Name of the Save%

%Jade Empire% is the directory in which JE is installed.

%Name of the Save% would be "Auto 163 - 21h 24min - level 22" or somesuch.

(Note: I don't have the Steam version.)

There are 2 files in that directory:

save.sac
SaveImage.tga

If you cannot see/find any of these files you're probably running the search as a different user than Steam does. Try it as an Administrator!

The game I have is not from steam either but I have other games from them I and know they can save in different directories. I always use as administrator and I have no other profiles to use.

I have just downloaded a Jade Empire save game editor in the hope of finding out where the elusive files may be, this says that is is reading the save files from C:/Program Files/Jade Empire/Save! But if I open this address it states "This folder is empty" it also reads as "0 bytes" when looking at the properties for the folder and "Contains: 0 folders 0 files"

If I remove the save folder from the Jade Empire folder the game can still see and open the files fine so this can't be their true location.

I am only getting more confused.

This does not at all sound like a Jade Empire specific problem. Maybe the cause for your system's slowdown *and* the missing files is some type of malware... Are you absolutely sure the files aren't hidden? Try to access the folder from the command line with "dir /AH"!

Thanks pecoes,

Just reading back through your posts and decided to go down the users path, and low and behold found them in;
C:/users/(username)/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Jade Empire/save, with a bunch of other folders for games I haven't played in ages.

My mind is at rest.

That's an odd location but quite a relief. :)

I suspect this is a Windows 7 issue (-Kitten-'s file structure C:\\Users\\... indicates that they're running Win7 not WinXP) and results because Vista/Win7 weren't around when JE was originally released. I can certainly confirm that in Win7 the ...\\%Jade Empire%\\save directory is empty so it's good to know where to look for the save files. (I did look in AppData but didn't think to drill down into the VirtualStore folder to look for a JE sub-directory.)

I use Win7 too, but I'm running JE in WinXP compatibility mode. Maybe that's why my files are saved in the "old spot"...

My save files have always been stored in the "old" spot, no matter the compatibility mode (or lack thereof).

Can anyone tell me where the Mac version of the game keeps the files, I can't seem to find them in Documents or by viewing package contents.
