I'm not going to read through the whole thread as I only started playing thsi weekend, but I am LOVING this game. Both as a gamer and as a comic book nerd, thisis a really great game. The art, the combat, the voice direction, etc. Truely a top notch game and easily among my contenders for Game of the Year so far.

Wrong. The game does give you a hint, that Two-Face will keep getting reinforcements, and you should focus your attacks on him.

It does? I don't remember seeing or hearing that at any point.

Yeah it gives you the warning on the retry screen after you die. Which isn't the most helpful time to give you the info.

Then I think I still have a point. But that was the one fight in the game I found a bit silly. Generally I thought the boss fights were pretty good. They reused a few mechanics, but it wasn't too much and you generally died if you did something wrong, not because of bad luck.

I'm struggling a bit with new game+ at the moment. It really is a lot harder. Without the counter symbols, I often try to counter too much and miss out on combos. Consequently I don't get enough health back after the fights.

It's a good thing you can free roam in the normal game after you finish and even switch to Catwoman to get her trophies.

I was agreeing with you, in my own peculiar way. I felt there was a few instances throughout the game where they didn't do a great job of explaining things or waited until you had already died before informing you of certain things. Its one of the few slight annoyances I had.

I have now had two moments of Zen in video games.  The first was a moment in Red Dead Redemption when John Marsten is riding into Mexico.  An amazing song was playing, the sun was setting, the scenery was magnificent.  It was a haunting moment for me.  It was a moment that I will always remember.

The second was in Arkham City on Tuesday when I stumbled upon the site where Bruce Wayne's parents were killed.  Batman has the opportunity to kneel to pay his respects next to the oulines of his parents and a bundle of red roses.  Let's just say that having lost a parent when I was a teenager, this moment resonated with me more than I would have expected.

I don't have a problem with the combat oddly enough, this is one game where I'm willing to practice to get better (because it's Batman).  I usually play on easy, and my first playthrough was a bit of a cake walk.  Playing on normal, things seem fairly well balanced with the exception of the timing issues that others have noted.  It's difficult to know who you are countering, but I've now caught quite a few boxes and hurled them back at thugs.  I actually scored the best in the challenge rooms using Robin.  Go figure.

I'm rather disappointed with the Catwoman missions.  They really seem irrelevant to the overall story, and they just don't add anything to the game for me.  She's very unique, so I'll give them credit that they didn't just plug a female skin over Batman's animations, but I consider playing her to be a chore.  She just doesn't have the gadgets that make playing as Batman so much fun, and her low health (since I don't waste any points leveling her up because she's hardly in the game) makes her a target that can't absorb any significant damage.  I just don't like her yet, but I'll give it some more time.

There are too many freaking riddles.  Four hundred?  Seriously?  First playthrough I think I found a hundred or so.  Second playthrough I have in the mid to high 200s (269 or 289, I can't remember).  I haven't given up on them yet, but I don't think the time is too far off when I'll give up and watch Batman catch the Riddler on youtube.  I'll practice fighting, but there's only so many times I can throw remote Batarangs around an obstacle course without getting annoyed.

**Minor Spoiler**
Last but not least, who the hell had the bright idea of putting THAT under the Iceberg Lounge?  That is just so not fair.  In hindsight, there were hints all over the museum, but dammit that's just not fair to surprise me like that when Bats fell into the water.  I dropped the controller, jumped a foot off of the couch and let out a girly scream.  Twice.  Jerks.
**End Minor Spoiler**
Loving it overall.  A few nitpicks, but every game has them.  I'm glad 95 % of the game is perfect to me.  Image IPB

Never played the first one, don't really care about Batman, but this game looks great.  How does the "rhythem based combat work?"  Obviously it's popular so it can't be too esoteric...  Is it a kind of A-B-AA-B sort of whack-a-mole kind of thing?  How is the stealth?  I know it's Batman so I would be punching people in the nuts not sneaking past them.

Will I or will I not have the urge to touch myself when I see Catwoman?

Also, Samsung's new SSD comes with an Arkham City code, for those of you like me, on the fence for both buy (and not almost certainly getting both).

Button-mashing is tapping the buttons of the controller rapidly. You can still follow a rythm while doing it as long as your still tapping them repeatedly.

You talked about mashing random buttons. Normally when people talk about button-mashing, they don't mean pushing buttons in a particular rhythm, they just mean pushing buttons wildly in no particular order.

But yes, the controls are a bit iffy sometimes, I can certainly agree with that. I think the problem lies mainly with the navigation and not the combat. Sometimes there are just ledges that you can't reach for no apparent reason. It's worst with Catwoman.

The point is, winning a fight is determined by how fast you press the buttons. There are times where you do bring strategy to a fight, but that's in the stealth sections of the game. The problem with stealth, however, is that most of the time, you don't  even have to use it. Catwomen's final level was an exception.

Speaking of Catwomen, I feel as if she should have been better integrated in the main plot. Like I said, Batman's story was was a lot more interesting, whereas the only catch with the Catwomen episodes was that you could play as her, which loses it's charm when it becomes clear that she's just out to get some cash.

I also have a problem with Hugo Strange. According to the trailers prior to the game's release, he was suppose to be some thought-provoking villain that blamed Batman for Gotham's descent into crime, but we barely even saw the bloke until the end of the game and he's just Ras al-Ghul's follower. That guy was under-utilized.

HA! I was just moving along there trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. When the thought occurred to me "I hope they don't have a bloody great big....F*CKIN HELL!!". Damn thing scared the crap out of me. Getting to punch it out was nice revenge though.

@Capt. Obvious (not the one I just quoted )

You might want to put a spoiler warning on your last paragraph for people who haven't finished the game yet.

Stealth is my favorite part of the game.  You can swoop down from the rafters and string up bad guys, and watch their friends start to get nervous as you pick them off one by one, until they start shooting at anything that moves in sheer pantswetting terror.  Or you can leap out of grates in the floor and and drag an unsuspecting mook to the ground. Or drag them through windows.  Or blow up walls next to them.

Combat is on the xbox, hit x to hit your opponent, y to counter thier attacks, b to stun them with your cape, and a to dodge around.  Ultimatly the best way to find out if you like the combat would be to rent it if you can.  Or the first game.

I think that's the problem I'm having with it. Much as the gameplay is phenomenal, so much of the setting seems intended for comic book fans. The central storyline feels very lackluster with the way it's presented.

Your not making a lick of sense.  First its button mash as fast as possible but wait you your self agreed that theres a rythm to it.  Now its button mash as fast as possible.  Your just changing the meaning of the term button mash just so you wont be wrong.

Those who don't like how this game been getting near perfect review scores check out this one. http://www.blistered...deo-review-zgr/  It seems like the most honest review of it and its still gushing about it.  So yeah I guess he got payed off by rockstead too.

Anyone who says otherwise is automatically deciding its not because they think anyone who does think its GoTY are just big Batman fans.  I've had a few people just shrug it off because its Batman so what?
Lets forget for a minute that Arkham Asylum won GoTY awards and this is better than that in almost every way.

Just beat the game last night, gotta say I was blown away. The game was so addictive and overall, just an amazing experience. The voice acting was great, the attention to detail was great (Batman and Catwoman's outfit becoming ripped apart and bruised through the events). Great for Batman fans and great for people who don't know him, you'll still enjoy the game.

Just watching the ending(the last 12 minutes or so, boss battle included) shows off how amazing this game was.

By the way, its officially Tuesday for me in 20 minutes. Once that hits, SPOILERS EVERYWHERE.

Just wanted to post an update, finally caught up with the Riddler. The way Batman punishes him is pretty funny. Seeing that smug bastard get his just desserts made collecting all 400+ of those Riddler trophies worth it (Note: You don't even have to collect all of them. Just about 400)

SPOILER ALERT! I was wondering what would happen if I collected those. I was going to do it anyway for the challenge maps but now that I know Batman gets his hands on Riddler I'm definitely more motivated.

Oh, you didn't know? Before the game was a released, a video of one of the scenes where you see the riddler was shown and it was either implied or they mentioned that collecting the riddler trophies would lead to a conclusion face to face with the Riddler.

It's just, if I hadn't known about it, I wouldn't have been as interested as I am in the game.

My brother just got passed the part with Talia and Ra's... Stana Katic did a really good job, much better than I thought she would. And Dee Bradley Baker is as awesome as ever.
