Just recently, I finished Gears of War 3, concluding my run with Gears of War's trilogy, and more importantly, the characters. This was my first experience following a game for years and then reaching the point where I won't see those characters again. Assassin's Creed is up next and is going to end my run with Ezio and after that, my Shepard and his team. I don't know about you guys, but it is big to me for characters to be finished. Most game franchises seem to be standalone, or they end quick, or they bring the character back eventually (You know which Green armored Spartan I am referring to). Gears 3 was quite sad because as shallow as it is written to be, it was still the end of them (not a spoiler). Mass Effect is likely to be bigger to me with how many hours and thoughts Shepard got out of me.

Is it going to be a similarly emotional sendoff for most of you? Have you followed Shepard from the dawn of ME1 or is this more an end to a movie to you? I am sure gonna have a hell of a time stepping out of the Normandy for a last time, getting a last look at Garrus and a last walk with Shepard. How do you hope they do it? Do you want it to reach deep and emotionally or do you like the blockbuster film approach? Quick and painless or some scored scene walking through an empty Normandy and stepping out of the ship into the company of your squad? What will it mean to you? Is this big and tough, or is this the exciting finale bang? How will you send off Shepard (regardless of how it plays out in the directed scenes)?

Sorry if that was long and there is already an analysis, but I am just curious if others are in the same boat (ship, if you will) where ending characters like these is going to be quite a moment. Share how and what this ending has come up to in your mind.

NOTE: I am not simply asking if you cry during video games or if you will cry. I am interested in more than whether tears express your emotion.

I'll be sad to see Shepard and company go, but as long as closure presents for many of the plot threads, I will be satisfied to see them off in a galaxy better than the one I was presented.

I doubt it's going to more emotional than Gears 3, which was not that emotional a sendoff at all.

Im ashamed to admit it will.

Saints Row comes out next month and it will end the planned trilogy for the character I created over six years ago.

Fallout: New Vegas seems to have ended my Lone Wanderer's story unless I can also roleplay him in the upcoming Fallout 4.

And now Mass Effect will also end the circle of my top three favorite custom characters. It's sad, but in a happy way knowing they can finally rest in peace.

This.  In my opinion the best "ending" to a series and its characters.  Sure, I had to watch half a days worth of cutscenes, but that was a half day well spent.

Unfortunately I get overly emotional easily in games & when reading books (not movies though. Not sure why). I wept several times in ME1 and ME2.

But nothing made me cry like the alternate ending where Shepard dies at the end of failed Suicide Mission in ME2. I bawled probably for several minutes into the credits... I cried for (almost) each squad member that died... and my dad laughed at me lovingly cus I called him on the phone to whine to him that Shepard died.... yeah... not my proudest moments, I'll admit.

Still, even though it was immense sadness and sorrow I felt by that ending, it resonated with me... probably something I'll remember for a very long time in my life.

Regardless of what occurs in ME3, happy or sad ending, I know I will probably cry harder than I ever have for a game or book... because I will know it is the last time I'll ever get to have a new adventure with my beloved friends (Shep & crew).. I know there won't be more stories of Shep and the gang, and that will have me in uncontrolled weeping at the end, no matter how joyous the ending might be.

Great now I'm all misty eyed just thinking about it. Damn it. :crying:

Mass Effect didn't stir you up over the years? Gears of War seems to have only stepped up emotionally a few times in the first two games, and while I was nicely surprised by the maturity and emotion that spread into the finale, I overall and expecting to feel hit harder with Mass Effect. I think the vision and concept of Mass Effect is a big part of the attachement. The spacefaring of humans has been a love of mine since Mass Effect first presented it.

I will be sad and hopefully the cutscene will be more emotional than the previous endings. I'd like some acknnowledgement of this being a goodbye. Hope they take the Oscar-worthy epic approach, rather than a Blockbuster trilogy ending.

And they say ME3 will have more Virmire-type choices.  I'll bring the chocolate.

I teared up once. But I was drunk, so it doesn't really count.

I know I will get emotional, but it'll be a mixture of sadness and happiness because my favourite series is about to end. I'll probably have the same reaction I had to Let The Right One In (brilliant movie), I basically sat there for ten minutes after the credits and just thought to myself, wow, what an emotional journey.

Plus, all the tweets concerning Jack and her "tear-jerking moments" are really making me excited. I know this game will blow me away and I cannot wait to play through it.

This  doesn't make you cry or at least get a bit misty-eyed? :( I never understood how anyone who played the whole series and sees that doesn't get at least a bit emotional over it... don't misunderstand me, not criticizing you, just don't personally get how some become emotionally hardened to stuff like that. I loathe to think it may be a gender thing? Where's Cheez? Need to ask her if that part made her sad.... though somehow I doubt it did.... legend has it Cheez was forged in the fires of Mordor... :?

That part is rather sad...but I have to say ME has never made me cry either. Offhand, the only game I can recall that made me cry was Final Fantasy XIII ending.

And I've never played the Devil may Cry games, but I've seen the cutscenes for DMC3 and I got pretty teary-eyed when Virgil was trapped in the underworld, and when Dante cried.

I was never real emotionally-investede in ME enough to cry. I played 2 new to the series, and 1 at that point became a "oh, cool" kind of affair.

I tear up at emotional things A LOT, but I have never actually cried at any movie/video-game. If ME3 doesn't become the first, though, that'll be dissappointing.

No pressure, BW.

Can't say I cried, but when I thought Mordin died at the end of the SM I gotta admit I felt a bit of a panic attack coming on haha, good thing he got up shortly after

I had this.... obsession... with making my character sit down in chairs to eat or drink in that game. I don't understand it myself.
