I was really tired yesterday, so after uploading I went pretty much directly to bed.

@simbacca: I hope I don't have to raise it to lvl 4, at the moment the main effect of Dominate at Lvl 2 is a delay of a crowd for a few seconds, which is awesome and it works the way I'm using it now.
For now the problems are "heavy" enemies like krogan who don't get affected as long as low lvl mooks.

Does Dominate get a bonus from the Duration upgrade of the biotic upgrades?
Or even the Lvl 4 passive skill of Engis? That would be sweet ; )

And if someone comes up with a name for that thing I'm doing here, please tell me so. Cryo Engi? The Cryo Dominatrix (and I complained about the "bridging the gap" joke Oo)? Bozorgmehr Wannabe? Like I said before, I'm not good with names. :?

Aww come on, my joke was AWESOME:P

And leave it to me to come up with something just as bad. :bandit:

Edit: The Cryominating Pyrohacker! ...Yeah, that was bad. :P

As for your question, I have limited experience with dominate, HOWEVER the mechanics are akin to AI Hacking, and AI Hacking does get the duration bonus. Take from that what you will.

Are you asking what class he's playing? Because that would be the Engineer.

And Dominate is like AI hacking...For organic enemies. Same rules as AI hacking, slightly less effective (due to an annoying animation) but still good for wreaking havoc.

You get it from Samara's Loyalty mission for siding with the Ardat-Yakshi Morinth. :wizard:

Dominate is completely worthless in the final assult on the collector base. If you want to see Harbinger be even more obnoxious than normal, then use dominate on that run. I suppose that I could pay attention more, and dominate only while harby is already up, but I prefer things like stasis.

Stasis is so awesome, that it actually takes the challenge out of certain encounters. At least in my opinion and that's the reason why I avoid it.

Your gag wasn't that bad Mi-Chan, it's memorable.
And I think I'll have to consult the wiki to get an answer to those questions regarding dominate. All in all I like dominate, it's not the most effective power, but one you can have fun with and that's what I'm looking for.

And Horizon is up, I really didn't know what I should skill for this mission. I had 6 points to spend and went for Cryo and Incinerate lvl 2.
In the first encounter I tried use the spot Ryo used in one of his videos, it somehow worked out ; )

After watching that video, I'm thinking you should call it something like "Fire and Ice, with Elbow of Death".  I thought you were toast at 9:25-10:23 but you "froze" your way out of being pinned down.  Fun to watch.

Fun is the reason we play videogames after all. :wizard:

Nice run, wonder why you recorded the praetorian fight though - it's just a dull bulletsponge.

It's a bulletsponge, especially without heavy weapons. You are right, I should have left it out, but if someone doesn't know that this encounter is actually really easy and just time consuming, this someone will know one way to do it easy and dirty after watching this video.
If that someone doesn't fall asleep while watching the video of course ; )
There's no good reason why I included it, so sue me :P

@Ryo: Nearly dying the whole time is what I'm really good at, also at dying. But getting out of these situations can be really satisfying.

Huge snip

Interesting!
I'll have to take another look at Drain and Neural Shock then. My main reason for skipping Neural before was that I felt it was too similar to Cryo. But I'll give it another look now, thx for the info :).  As a sniper engineer though, did you find it difficult to line up shots? I'm curious as to how it plays out without a time-slowdown effect like the soldier or infiltrator.

It's not a problem with the Viper at all. You have to much ammo that you don't need to score headshot - just aim at the body. And they stand still when CC'd by the drone.

And neural shock is amazing, with upgrades and two squaddies with area overload you can neuter two groups of enemies in two seconds.

As Mi-Chan said, the Viper's RoF helps with hitting. However, I should also add that headshotting with the Viper usually isn't the best way to use the gun because: a) its dmg/shot is actually pretty low;  and  B) the recoil and stagger caused by your 1st shot means its usually better to go for bodyshots only, unless your single shot can kill/strip a defense on its own.

Also, the Sniper Engineer relies on 'power reloading' - the instant you **** your gun, cast a power to cancel the rest of the reload animation. Doing this means you're constantly casting Incinerate / Overload / Neural Shock(wave) on your enemies, and these powers will usually keep them still and upright, which should give you the best possible shots on target. So instead of using time dilation, Engineers can use their CC powers to help line up shots.*

*Cryo often makes ppl fall behind cover, so it's generally a no-go with sniper builds.

I just saw your Horizon video with your extensive use of incinerate and cryo blast. To be honest, if you are having fun and don't really care for the drone, I'd go for that build. Yes drone is the "classic build" just as singularity is "the Adept skill" but you really made that Cryo look really useful. Didn't think you were slow due to using Cryo/Incinerate.

You do need some good protection stripping for that build though, but I think you should go with what's fun. And if you want to respec to drone at any time, the research lab is just next door.

Just got to see you video now. Nice. This playstyle somewhat reminds me of the Stasis Adept, with Cryo kinda replacing Singularity and Incinerate kinda replacing Pull/Throw.

I decided on a name for the moment, it's stupid but it covers most of what I'm doing.
Thx Locutus and Xariann, I'm just trying things out with this run and expect to run into some problems with this build, but we'll see. I'm itching for the shotgun right now, but soon it will be mine ; )

So I made 3 side missions after Horizon, Estevanico, the one with the failing shield and the one with the YMIR and powercells, but I decided against recording my epic fight against two varren in the last of those missions.
But I recorded Grunts loyalty mission, just Ice, Fire and CC. It was real fun, besides the rather boring fight against the maw, although he nearly got me.
The beginning of the fight against the maw is just me being really confused and if you watch the fight against Uvenk and his posse: yes, I'm greedy ; )

Just a question - Are you going for the AOE or the Duration version of cryo?

IMO AoE is 90% of the time better than straight duration/damage IMO. I would rather give up a bit of duration / pure damage on a single target in order to CC / debuff a group of enemies when I know that a deliberate fusilade from my weapon can finish any one particular guy off.

When it comes to Cyro powers, duration tends to be quite long as it is, given their respective CDs. Since Cryo works slow and does no damage on its own, I'd prefer the ability to affect several targets simulaneously rather than just affect one target for longer.

I usually go for AOE aswell, but since Incinerate CC's organics really well, Cryo could be saved for Elites/Krogan who have shorter/no firedance respectively. And they have a duration reduction so I assumed Duration would be nice. :?

Actually a good point, it seems you're putting more thought into it than me ; )

But I still prefer to have the area version, I hope it'll work out and if not I'll change it.
I have that "Let's see what comes" attitude with this run, I've never played with a build like this and actually never really used cryo before, so I'm still in the learning process.

True, but it still holds that Cryo's basic duration is already fairly long. For tough guys like Krogan, (who aren't always CC'd by Incinerate, iirc) it makes sense to maximize the damage debuff with duration, but in practice, I think the main difficulty with elites (esp. Krogan) is the time while you're still stripping their protections / waiting for Cryo to resolve. As such, I still think it's more beneficial to have the versatility of AoE than the more focused approach of duration.

True, but the cooldown on Cryo is short enough (2.7s w/ upgrades) that if your target begins to 'thaw' prematurely, you can simply re-freeze.

Hey OP if you haven't tried it yet, for an interesting time as engineer in late game try maxing drone and AI hack and bring dominate. Put Legion and Tali in your group (when you have them or with gibbed) and max out their drones and ai hack too. When you get into a fight with organics, drop one dudes shields and then dominate him followed by deploying all three drones. If fighting geth or loki/fenris mechs, drop two of their shields and ai hack them both, followed by all three drones. A full heavy ai hack/dominate (the 12 sec one) has enough shields to take a lot of fire, plus their shields/barrier drops when it's over, allowing you to keep re-dominating the rocket guy or shotgun guy or whatever heavy damage mook your using as a distraction.

ME2 baddies tend to tunnel-vision on drones and dominates/hacks, so when everyone is distracted, run out there and start punching the living **** out of people, keeping just enough eye on your drones/hack/dominate to re-deploy them as they die.

It's not easy on insanity, and I know it doesn't really fit into your "elemental" theme, but I thought I'd throw it out there since I couldn't stop lol'ing when I was doing it.

The cooldown upgrades completely slipped my mind. AOE does seem like the better choice now. :wizard:

Homey: That's pretty much what Bozormehr does in his video (look at the first post for the video) and what originally inspired me to do this run. Well he doesn't punch them, but obliterating their sorry butts with the claymore is much more satisfying ; )
I don't want to copy one to one (that would just show that I'm not able to keep up with others who did it nearly perfect ; ) ) and I don't want to rely on drones that much. I also don't use medigel and HW (with the exception of saving 20 crates, I always do that with the double cain), all of that adds a little to the challenge and I like that.

And if you guys keep discussing the pros and cons of powers while I simply go with my guts how can I still keep my Mordin picture? I should be the science guy... :D
