knowing how you hate using ammo on husks, i'm looking forward watching your IFF mission ! lol .

and for all the ( well deserved ) credit you give to some of our awesome players , you definitely have your own style ! *bows*

Awesome players might be a stretch. ;) You wouldn't believe what happens off-camera.

I'll give it a try to make an IFF no ammo for husks run, it's just as easy as engi, if not easier than as an Adept. Especially if I take the dream team along : )

and thanks : )

edit: I think I already mentioned how often I die if I make mistakes or want too much ; ) It's bound to happen if I always try to play aggressive, but it's the only way I learn. I died at least 100 times during this run and I think at least 50 times at the hatch fight alone... the sad truth.
But I had a feeling this wouldn't be the easiest build to play especially if I play without medigel, barely any drones and no teammanagement besides abusing their powers :P

hmmm , you grab a beer ?

lately, the main contributors have been: you, Ryo, Red , Caol and Jahaa jumped in too.
It's helped me a great deal watching strategies, spots i'd never seen, timing , and so on.
add in the humorous bits and bobs .

 I don't drink.

No, I'm just very impatient and I often underestimate my opponents. That, and whenever I'm not recording I browse bsn/chat while playing and multitasking doesn't make for stellar gameplay.

And I'm glad I joined in, even if it was a coincidence. ;)

Totally missed this for some reason. I live in Denmark. That teeney tiny country up north.

@Mi-Chan:
I was too lazy to check each and every engi-related thread, but I was wondering, which henchman do you prefer?
Guess my next run will be the shotgun as well, videos looking awesome and currently just 'found' my old shepard engi, which I still have to finish, but 'she' has AR training so sticking with more melee for the next one is the only option :P

[as long as it is not Mordin ]

Since my Engineer doesn't have more than the required points in Overload I'm quite reliant on Garrus, so he stays most of the time. This way I get to use Neural Shockwave at the start of any fight which makes it a lot easier. A Second squadmate with Area Overload allows for two Neural Shockwaves.

Tali is also quite good since you get an extra drone on the field. (In case that there's more than one Elite out there.)

Mordin doesn't get any time in the limelight when I'm an Engineer. Very sad. :crying:

Edit: Ah, the wonders of copy pasting.

Engineer:

Shotguns. Several playthroughs.
2 - Overload. Never use it.
4 - Incineration Blast. Firedance.
4 - Attack drone. That little bugger only dies against YMIR's for me, no need for the explosive version. That, and the explosion is a stagger, not a knockdown.
3 - Cryo Blast. For mechs
0 - AI Hacking
4 - Mechanic Duration for my bonus power
4 - Neural Shockwave This power is Cryo on steroids. The tech version of pull-field in utility.

Neural Shockwave and Drone are my most used powers. Paired with Garrus this build takes care of any regular mission. Mordin gets the Bloodpack missions, and warping squadmates get the collector missions. I cater my playstyle around locking down elites with the Combat Drone, stripping the defenses of mooks with squadmate powers and then I use Neural Shockwave for great justice. Then it's just going in and cleaning up with the shotgun.

Thank you :)
Aaah, my last 2 'Shepards' were 1 widow inf & soldier, so I have a very hard time to get a grip to rely more on powers instead (&again) ^^ It wasn't really needed and the widow is just too evil, so my henchman were usually my favorite ones (Kasumi & depending on the mission, besides IFF & suicide)
Yet, I started to like Zaeed and Squad Disrupter Ammo quite a bit, so I often stick with him around as well - and honestly, Zaeed or Thane equiped with the Incisor do a sh*tload of damage and they tend to headshot every now and then.
But on my engi I currently stick with Garrus as well and Miranda, built looks very 'familiar' - I never tried or tested the Neural stuff. Will retrain after the shadowbroker mission and give it a try :>

Attack drone > explo drone .. though on the Shadowbroker mission (insanity), it tend to die more than usual, but doing 40 points o' damage to every protection is fine with me. As far as I know, the drone have to stay 6 seconds to out-damage the explo drone, nor? (counting in the initial tick and thereafter every 3 sec)

[edit: guess; i'll skip firewalker&overlord .. after seeing the shotgun action, it made me very very *** [I only know a German word, which 'd describe it the best ])

Yeah, that's about right. Think of Neural Shock as an instant pullfield. Instant AOE incapacitation. On a three second base cooldown. It's just really neat.

And every squadmate is good. Some are "better" of course depending on what mission you're on. If you like Kasumi you can use her as an overload-bot aswell. Keep in mind that her Passive is bugged and she won't get the cooldown reduction.

There are situations (against bosses) where explosive drone is superior, yes. But the explosive drone isn't a lovely shade of blue. Yes, I'm that shallow.

And most importantly - have fun with it.

Uhm, even if I really don't mind; I started to read in here just some days ago (accidentally clicked on 'masseffect2.exe' :wizard: and couldn't resist) - so that's new to me.
But you are right concerning the squadmates, as long as it is fun - currently trying new tactics/things anyway and I'm very hyped to lay my hands on the shotgun in the next run :o

I like being experimental. Except when recording of course, for obvious reasons. I've found a use for Jack's Shockwave as a Viper-Sniper. You can cryo everyone who got dislodged from cover. Shockwave useful, fancy that. ;)

:crying: but... but... it's Mordin!

@ Mi-Chan: And patience is all that's needed, there's nothing special about using no weapons against husks, I'm not "that good", they're just that bad. It's a shame, they were annoying and could get dangerous in ME, but in ME2 they're a nuisance at best.... I hope they take care of that in ME3, but we'll see.

And Legion Loyalty is up. I don't know why but I wasn't really into this mission, it wasn't really hard or anything (I died during the final battle when you have to escape one time because I didn't see the last geth hiding behind a pillar or something... Everything was dead, including the Prime and I didn't notice that creppy little thing hiding in the shadows, it was kind of funny) and actually boring. Maybe because I have an overdose of geth by now and it's always the same routine, but I don't know.
And I got really lucky one time, you'll know what I mean when you see it.

www.youtube.com/watch

Edit: Ok I was lucky a couple of times, but one time I should have been dead and didn't die because the game kind of glitch-killed one geth.

Huh. I found them to be even easier in the first game because Shepard's pistol whip knocks them down. You can bludgeon them to death in that game. Not so much in the second. They're still easy though.

And Mordin is the very model of a scientist salarian. Accept no substitutes.

Really? I didn't like them when I was low level and it was close quarter with a lot of cover, their Overload thing was mean and did a lot of damage... in ME 2 it takes them like 20 hits to kill you I assume.
But that's just my experience and I didn't even know you could knock them back... just like I didn't know that about Kasumi and the cooldown reduction : )

We're all here to share. My impatience made me discover the melee attack in the first game and how you can ragdoll the majority of enemies. A good tactic when playing the first game on Insanity. ;) And yes, I do enjoy playing the first game on Insanity.

Kasumi's passive is bugged.

Haven't played the first game on Insanity yet.  But I finished the Suicide Mission, although that has nothing to do with it...
Ah well, it was actually kind of fun and nice to fight someone without a flashlight on the head ^^

Well, okay - yet I left her with the 1 point she got after her LM; her backstab is still awesome and I don't care if the CD is 12 or 9 or whatever seconds. Same for the FB, cause she never use it on herself only when commanded to. There are far better CC abilities, even if it's like a cheat against some nasty enemies (Harbinger with no biotic powers, if that still do work ^^).
Anyway, used her only on my Soldier run and on my engineer Miranda is way more useful and 1 sniper
( that's the reason why, this nearly nullifies the need for another squadmate with additional powers and Thane is just ridicolous awesome in collector-missions)

@CaolIla

cool shotgun action in the suicide mission :D I still have 3 or 4 missions to do with my ARifle engi, til I can start over and get some freaking shotgun too. But the last fight took you quite some time; *eg* compared to 8-9 bullets of lol-widow...

What do you expect? ^^ I play with Katana, that needle pistol and the Tempest (or Revenant wannabe)... there are some weapons better suited for that job ; )
I don't really like the last fight, it's more an endurance test than a real challenge.

To be honest, in very first walk-through my soldier on 'normal' used the garbage-revenant, it's cool in AR but else in insanity one of the most useless guns. And the Tempest is actual quite a cool gun, even if I currently have to stick to AR training, I use the SMG the most - and the Mattock is considered a cheat anyway.
Just did the Shadowbroker, and it was all about sending in a drone, he turns around - click on your mouse like one possessed (hope the 'meaning of it is literally correct, it's not really my native language ^^) and the first ammo clip kills off his shield, the next 2 his armor...rinse & repeat.

Uhm, why do you stick to the Katana? - this one puzzled me quite a bit, I've no clue when it comes to shotguns, but shouldn't be the Scimitar a bit superior?

I'm sure caolIla will answer for himself, but this thread was about him running a different kind of engineer - rarely using drone ( he jokes "play spot the drone" on his videos ) and he said he always takes the scimitar, so he wanted to try something different.

What Ryo said : ) And I think I already mentioned that I can't really stand GPS and Evi, so there was just the Katana left... And i don't think Tempest or Revenant are bad weapons: high rate of fire, decent damage per hit but hard to control. There are simply better weapons to strip armor, like you said the Widow, actually every Sniper is better suited I guess, Mattock and so on.

Yeah, humbly sorry again  but you gave me very nice ideas for my next engi-run; so thank you as well :P
Though Revenant .. hmm, hard to tell, it's cool if I replay my old savegame on normal to beat the suicide mission but I really don't like the gun. (some love Mordin, so I can at least hate this ****ty gun ^^)
The Mattock *uhm* I'd consider it a cheat, using it on my (new) soldier & engi run; it's a devastating rifle and make lots'o mission very easy. Same goes for the widow, so I understand your re-built engi to do other stuff besides drone+power+kill, drone+power+kill...*yawn*
