If the real game is anything even remotely like this I swear I will throw my computer out a window.

Why even bother allowing us to level up our characters if enemies become STRONGER than our characters with each new level.

My rogue, mage and warrior ALL GET TWO SHOTTED. BY GENLOCKS. AT LEVEL 6/7.

<_<<_<<_<<_<<_<<_<<_<

You may have to find yourself a lucky 4-leaved clover. Nobody has been that unlucky yet.

I'm just terribly frustrated at the moment - sorry. I've been trying to kill these 2 Genlock Alphas and Ogre for half an hour now.

make sure you mage has the stun spell (cant remember name atm.) and keep the troll stunned until the other two are dead...its no issue.

On normal? Come on, broseph. It's not that difficult, even without CC.

Heh. Got to agree.
I hated the game after being forced to play it 2 more times just to get the helm :pinched: but it was good the first time.

Try using Mind Blast/ Dirty Fighting + Pinning Shot on the Ogre then fight the other two. I like to keep Ardum around for healing.

Hey, if I can do it with 2 mages (me and Ardum) and 1 warrior, you can too ;) (disclaimer : this was on easy though. For Normal I used 1 warrior 1 mage and 1 rogue).

Well first off, do you have your Martine sword and board...?

If not, then...yeek, need I explain more?

And what spec are you using for Ardum?

Martine should have Taunt so she can tank. Ardum should be full time healer. Well that is how I did it anyway.

I heard that full caps lock is auto-pilot for cool. T/F?

By the way, I don't think you should get the game if you had problems caused by difficulty in Journeys. Origins is supposed to be much harder and requires more stragetgy than that flash game.

It would be nice if some sort of strategy could be formed at all for the flash game.

Opening sequence of events:
1) I cast staff bolt on a genlock alpha.
2) both genlocks summon magical boulders out of thin air, instantly killing my mage
3) my rogue goes into stealth for a backstab.
4) ogre reduces warriors health to 20% in one hit
5) my warrior uses war shout or maybe attacks one of the genlocks
6) genlocks slaughter what remains of my warrior
7) rogue gets a backstab
8) rogue gets slaughtered

Granted I'm a strategic RPG veteran with HoMM, but Journeys really isn't that hard.  Your mage really shouldn't be getting one shotted by the boulder toss. Maybe two shotted if you're really unlucky.

Here's a couple things to remember though:

1.) The genlock's spells depend on line of sight to place the boulder right on top of your mage.  Move your warrior as close as you can to cut off this line.

2.) The fight here can be made MUCH easier if you had bothered to invest in the Mind Blast spell for your mage.  Keep casting this spell on the Ogre.

3.) In tough fights like these, always make sure to FOCUS FIRE.  That means all of your characters should be fighting the same character at all times.  Do not spread yourself thin.  If you have to, use crowd control like Pinning Shot, or Mind Blast, but for the most part direct your damage onto one target at a time!

4.)  Make sure you have an adequate supply of potions before going into battle, and obviously remember to use them at the appropriate time.

You'll get the hang of it.  Don't get so flabbergasted... IT'S JUST A GAME! :o

I dont know how or why the OP is having such trouble.. I breezed through that game with my mage... she had Mind Blast AND the Force Prison.. I also made Ardum learn Mind Blast.. Man that was so easy.. I dont think one party member got incapped from that 2 Alpha 1 Ogre fight.

I MUST USE CAPSLOCK TO EXPRESS DISSATISFACTION WITH A FREE FLASH GAME

AND HOW DO YOU MISS A "WAR CRY". DID SHE YELL IN THE WRONG DIRECTION !?!

Do you know what a saving throw is?

(That being said, I too hated the flash game. It's not indicitave of the real game at all though, put away the angry tank.)

I've got tons of potions, my mage is getting two-shotted (just because I am that unlucky I guess). I'm focusing on taking out the alphas first.

I think I should have gone with mind blast instead of shock, then put my level 7 talent into flaming weapons...

I found that the fights with ogres were MUCH easier on the second go-through if you use ranged attacks + pinning shot. The alphas dropped both of the NPC's, so I solo'd the ogre with my dwarven rogue. Two steps back + shoot, rinse and repeat.

Considering how I own all of the NWN games, I would hope so. The saving throw would be "mental resistance" or w/e the message is. Not "missed".

Ditto!

Pinning shot is a friggin life saver against Ogres compared to my first playthrough as a warrior.

I swear the game is bugged.

It says attacking from stealth gives an automatic backstab bonus. Then why am I only seeing the backstab bonus about 60% of the time?

Same with flanked. That bonus only appears about 60% of the time.

If it's too difficult for you... you can lower the difficulty.

I basically tanked the two Genlocks with my warrior, while healer kept him alive. The Warder I put on the Ogre and had her just use heal potions and keep him busy till the warrior was done with both Genlocks.

This. When I did it on Normal as a Mage with Ardum and they both had Mind Blast, it was a complete joke. Protip, Mind Blast is OP.

yep, while the game is running too. Before the encounter go to options and select an easier difficulty, then you can switch back after. My favourite play through is double mage with Martine. I gave Martine a bow and two hander and I gave her pinning shot. I went with  Spirt (mind blast is quite awesome) and healing spells for my mage and had the companion mage (I can never remember his name) stay pure healing. Make sure you save up your money and buy the yellow weapons and equpment. Things will go much smoother for you. I've beaten the game on hard doing it this way. The double ogres are a bit of a challenge still. Just remember to keep moving the mages away all the time and heal Martine.

Yeah I'll get mind blast next time. Finally ran into a stretch of good luck. It's now 3 vs 1 for my against the Ogre. Now I just need to count on Dirty Fighting holding up :(

Please tell me that Bioware isn't going to be pulling an Oblivion and making the enemies all level with you.
I prefer power leveling and getting at least brief spurts of God complex when i can waste crowds with a dirty look and a hand gesture.

It's my understanding that Dragon Age: Origins will indeed have level scaling, though it's also my understanding that it'll be less blatant than that of Oblivion.

Level scaling is disappointing, but if it's more of a fine-tuning of difficulty level than outright determining it, I suppose I can live with it. It's when gaining levels has few to no practical benefits due to monsters leveling up with you that it becomes not just disappointing but actually game-ruining.
